My bad. I thought you were suggesting the stock campaign was fine and I was playing those wrong.

I fully intend to give PA a work through now I know of it.

its the only way to play. as Checlo said on his blog site, open the editor, put some baddies on it and play the game

youll come to learn more about the editor and add a few more bells and whistles and then try again, then build another one

i started with a basic 4 men go here and defend town against these 4 men

my next mission was helicopter 4 guys to this place, kill these guys triggering reinforcements, rescue the hostage whilst fighting off reinforcements, call in rescue chopper and escape like the wind

next one is a normandy one, im just thinking of a scenario i can believe in

This is all possible using planned assault?  Wow if that is the case.

I agree, when I have some time I've got to sit down and mess around with this Planned Assault website.

Planned assault missions are simple. It just a matter of who's attacking and defending what areas with what assets. Just like a DIY scenario in Steel Panthers. It does not do elaborate scripts and tasks like when you use the editor.

But it shines in creating large coordinated combined arms battles easily. Very fitting for the WW2 setting of iron front.

Agreed.

For instance...last night, in about 5 minutes, I created an air assault mission with three sections of MH-60s carrying in total about 60 Marines.  The objective was to clear all insurgents from an airfield.  We launched a three pronged assault landing at 2 different LZs.  The insurgents goal was simple.  Hold and deny while inflicting as many casualties as possible.  The Marines had a section of AH-1Z Cobra Gunships for support.

Needless to say, the mission was totally kick a$$.

Sounds awesome, which leads me to my next question.  Can these missions be saved and shared with others?

According to the web site the answer is yes.  Pretty cool.

Yep...you create the mission on the PA website.  Then the program creates the mission file in .rar format and you download and install it just like any other mission.

So, now 3 or 4 grog heads could do a co-oop mission together using this tool? Or would you need to rent a server to do that?

TheCommandTent

I signed up on the Planned Assault site and mess around making a quick mission for Iron Front.  I can already tell I am going to like this.  The mission I made was quick and easy but more fun the the stock scenarios in the game.   ;D

Thanks for posting that info up JH.  I haven't gotten into IF44 yet because...well, I just haven't.  But that Planned Assault thing sounds like EXACTLY what I need to get motivated to boot this up finally.

Signed up, created a mission and realised I didn't have ArmA II installed. It seemed very easy to make a mission though

I was a little confused with the versions of Armed Assault though. No PA's fault...I just wasn't sure what I had bought. Turns out I have OA and Brits.

My pleasure...let me know what you think once you get rolling.

Can I ask please - when you go to place your units, is there ANY way to zoom in on the map? I haven't found it yet and my units (enemy and friendly) end up in not great positions
