The answer is someone used to make a living out of it. Not sure if that's still the case.

I've heard rumors things aren't going too well there, but they're very short on specifics. I hope all is well. Shrapnel has produced some great games over the years.

They probably should've handed over publishing duties to someone with more capabilities long ago.

No doubt the matrix eagle will be swooping soon to pick off the prey....
"you are the rule maker, the dictator, the mini- Stalin, Mao, Hitler, the emperor, generalissimo, the MAN. You may talk the talk and appear to be quite easy going to foster popularity, but to the MAN I say F*CK YOU." And Steve G is F******g rude ? Just another day on the BF forum ... one demented idiots reaction to BF disagreeing about the thickness of the armour on a Tiger II turret mantlet.

Maybe, but I have learned never to underestimate the level of paranoia and distrust between wargame publishers. Don't count on it.

And it's this lack of advertisement and marketing abilities that causes a game like War Plan Pacific to sit in relative obscurity when it is a very brilliant game.  I can only think about what would of happened with it had Matrix published it.

War Plan Pacific and Bronze both deserve better outlets. With Dominions 3 now on Desura, it's time to get the rest of Shrapnels collection up somewhere more visible and accessible surely?

Check out the demo.  Thats what I'll be doing this weekend.  Just downloaded the demos for Bronze, World Supremacy and the Star and the Crescent.

I reviewed it when it was first published: http://www.armchairgeneral.com/world-supremacy-pc-game-review.htm

It's probably evolved some since I wrote that.

I remember.  You gave it an 80% then which I thought was good......

More likely it'll be House Slitherine...  :D

I was privileged enough to be a beta tester on both of those games. It's true that they could benefit from wider exposure but I'm not sure they would have even been born at all if not for Shrapnel's eye for indie wargame potential. You have to admit that their portfolio is pretty eclectic.

Slitherine owns Matrix. They are the same.

It was OK - a bit generic. The real allure was the modability. They were counting on a big fanbase creating mods for it. I haven't kept up with it, but that's where I'd spend time researching. If you find some mods you like that should be your signal to buy.

Heh. I knew you knew, but I wasn't sure how much the rest of the audience would know :)
