Personally I think that a lot of gun totting people who are probably a little paranoid is going to make for some interesting discussions with your neighbour about whose dog is pooping on their lawn.

What do you guys think something like this will work or is this wishful thinking and ignoring 200 years of social changes since since Jefferson was alive?

PS I am still not convinced that this is an Onion spoof

Benwah county pop. between 9000-10000 white people.  I will ask my cousin he lives just a few miles away
in Eastern Washington.  It looks like a Poe.  But it is hard to tell and that, my friends, is the joke.

I'm not sure what "white people" has to do with it, unless you're just trying to pick a racial argument.

While it may be true that most of Idaho's population is white, unless there's a race angle to the village they're building, I don't see where that is relevant, and not sure it even needs to be brought up.

All that said, I did check out the diagram of the town, and it looks a hell of a lot like most of the medieval fortress towns I drew in my old D&D binders back when I should've been paying attention in algebra class in 9th grade...

I wouldn't get too freaked out by the prepper angle.

It's more likely to take the trajectory of every attempt to build a utopia before it.

My point about the race angle is they never plan these things in rural Mississippi
or the middle of any good sized town or even Waco anymore.  Always out in the
sparsely populated hinterland not full of people ...with more "traditional" values.
Like Salt Lake City.

Meh. If you're trying to get away from people who you perceive as the problem you don't succeed by moving into the middle of them.

I would bet a dollar that if Herman Cain expressed interest in moving there he'd be welcomed with open arms.

This is one of the oddest stories I've heard in some time.....I wouldn't care to live in a walled in community like this, but if they could wall off California I'd go for that.

Living outside of the wall, I mean  ;D

I'd be happy if they just walled off the cities. I'd prefer to keep the redwood forests and much of the coastline. It's the lunatics in the big cities I could do without (though in fairness, some of them are OK).

I think if the zombie hordes did come after them that it would probably be more dangerous inside the compound than outside.  Somebody is going to end up the Governor!

Say, wouldn't there be a copyright issue with this place?

Any time is a good time for pie.

I'm fairly sure that place already has selected its governor.

It's not that I'm opposed to their concept. I'm just not convinced they're my kind of right-wing nut jobs.

Which is why one needs their own, invitation-only, compound.  FYI, I'm a crack shot... just sayin'.

You've never been to Stockton, Fresno, Bakersfield, etc. have you?  Bakersfield is closer in mentality to Odessa, TX than LA.  It's a cattle and oil town, that happens to be in CA.  Don't paint the whole state with the SF/LA brush.

When I was a young guy I went to Ft. Irwin and Tijuana and Disneyland and Knotts Berry Farm.
Guess which attraction was the most traumatic and memorable for its noise and violence?
