I know a number of folks here were a fan of this space strategy game, well GOG has now released it proper like.

yeah...I saw this on GOG when it was released about a week ago, but I don't remember many positive reviews when it first hit retail.  Anybody have any experience with this title?  Anguille, I'm looking at you...

I find the gamespot review fairly accurate:

Considering the lack of games in the genre, the fact that it still looks really good imho and that the game is really challenging, i think a fan of the genre can't go wrong with this game for that price. The story is not so easy to get into but the background story is well done and interesting for hardcore strategy fans.
Imho, you don't find games as solid these days. When it was released, everyone compared it to Homeworld but since then, few games have been released. And it is without a doubt a much much better game than Gemini Wars from a gameplay point of view...no doubts about it.

I have had it for years.  I really like it.

O.R.B. has a score of 68 at metacritic. I bought the game years ago (it was released in 2002 according to MobyGames), but I don't remember anything about it except the title.
Regardless of how good a PC game may be it will always have its detractors and no matter how bad a PC game may be it will always have its fans.

That's weird; I've had it for several months now, maybe a year, and I assumed I got it from GOG.  Can't imagine where else I might have got it.

Maybe Strategy First, they also have a download edition.

Oh, I think you're right!  I don't normally buy from Strategy First but some time last year they offered a ridiculous number of (fairly old) games for a ridiculously low price, and I was curious enough about some of them that I bought it.  I'm sure ORB was included in that.

Good call, Anguille!

That is where I got mine a few years back.
