All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.

They almost missed the collapse of the USSR.  If the Berlin Wall had not made so much noise coming down
it would have been quite a while before they noticed it was gone.  ???
Nice of them to put info out in an accessible form like that though.

Actually, a lot of what they said is open-source info that you can glean from reading the newspapers (or informative Web sites like Grogheads). But "intelligence community" has a certain gravitas.

But I wrote the Kotaku piece because I think a lot of future history games have flimsy motivations. Why create yet another post-apocalyptic world when your tax dollars have paid for a study that create a plausible scenario for the world 18 years from now?

It will be interesting to see what the CIA forecasters get right - and wrong.

Good read.  I've always been of the mind that the time is coming where conflict will intensify over the world's water supplies.
"No wants, no needs, we weren't meant for that, none of us.  Man stagnates if he has no ambition, no desire to be more than he is."

That water thing has been floating around (heh) for a long time.
I can tell you for sure that whoever is thinking of doing a lot of frakking
had better be able to find a lot of cheap, clean water.  We use whole rivers up here
for something like that.  Some of the places where they have deposits that are candidates
for large scale frakking like Israel and Wyoming and Australia have not got a lot
of useable water.  Maybe they will find a way to do it with bullsh*t there is no shortage of that.
