I notice the beta is now available at Stardock where they give you a key for steam for those who are eligible.

Well, the key is available. I'm downloading Fallen Enchantress: Legendary Heroes from Steam right now. If I had been fully awake and noticed it was a beta, I wouldn't have bothered. At least Steam will keep it up-to-date for me.
Regardless of how good a PC game may be it will always have its detractors and no matter how bad a PC game may be it will always have its fans.

Downloading now. Hopefully get a few minutes to test it out and then check the site for new mods.  ;D

The key features mentioned in the email do sound good, although I think Brad was overestimating the graphics update a bit.

Does "huge map sizes for truly epic gaming" mean they finally kept their promise and started supporting 64-bit?

I took it for a brief spin, and so far I'm digging it.  I like the new hero recruit/upgrade system, and I also like getting right into the thick of battle.  I ran into a couple of minor bugs, but it's in pretty good shape from what I can see.

I may actually jump on this one sometime.

Have they even announced an approximate release date?  Or will it be simmering for a long while yet?

Nefaro

LOL!

I got this email notificiation regarding the new version:

Buy it today and get the final version upon release

PLUS the beta which includes unintended "features":
*   Experience seemingly random, game-breaking bugs.
*   Horribly over-powered magic, under-powered sovereigns or a combination of both!
*   Behold the beauty of programmer placeholder "art" and more programmer placeholder art!
*   Even more hidden "features" that we don't yet know what they might be - your guess is as good as ours!

I'm planning on grabbing it, maybe next month.  If the big complaints about restrictive map size & such are being addressed.
