Why Windows Blue heralds the death of the desktop

Technology takes a relatively long time to really die out...but it does get pushed into ever smaller niches. 

Thanks to the internet and its ability to sell niche products globally, the niches can be really very small. 

You can still buy brand new 78 RPM turntables and even reel to reel tape recorders, but they are not cheap, and definately a hobbyists niche. 

Heck, you can even still buy a brand new Commodore 64...yes they still make them...slightly reved up

I don't know, I don't see the desktop / laptop killer platform yet.  Tablets aren't versatile enough to handle many business tasks yet. 

But I do believe that the desktop as we know it will be a mere hobbyist's device in 15 years.

I suspect the cloud will be where the future is for us gamers.  Win9 won't play your games?  Log on to GOG's or Steam's virtual Win7 cloud and have fun...  Heck, you could even do that from a tablet.

I agree.  Game design will have to change to accomodate the full flexiblity of the cloud and the many possible modes of access and participation.

As for me, I will probably shift more to board games since tablets have no gamey feel at all for me, while even a crappy board game is more of a festival of the imagination than even the best computer games.

Those disks wouldn't help you unless they were on CD. There are, however, a lot of ROMs available on line that might run under the new Commodore OS according to some of the info available. I did catch the price of the high end model though. $1200. Still WANT!! minus one '!'.
