Mr. Bigglesworth

Unbelievable. I open JD's boston marathon thread, expecting some pictures of one of my most favorite cities, hot linked to this thread which is talking a bombing. Boston and Cambridge are really lovely places. I really liked the walking paths on both sides of the Charles.

This is really rotten news.

...Boston police have has surveillance video of someone bringing multiple backpacks to blast site, according to CBS News.
Holy shiite , i hope its contained to Boston Area  (1 guy/small group,, homegrown) and not a coordinated  attack spreading to another place

Boston is a very international city with students and people from all over the globe working here let alone visiting for the Boston marathon.  Probably too early to jump to any type of conclusion regarding origin of this terrorist activity (remember Oklahoma Bombing etc).  I agree with DeathTouch the city obviously is traumatized but mostly it looks like Bostonians are determined not to let fear and these bastards win.

Verizon and Sprint are reporting that the were not asked to shutdown cell service in the area.  Wonder if it was really shutdown or just over loaded

probably overloaded - that's typical for most cell networks when things like this happened.

same thing happened in DC when the earthquake hit

Good to see that DTW is ok. I have friends in Lexington, haven't heard from them yet (just checked in with them a few minutes ago.)

Yup, I couldn't connect to my wife (worked in Arlington) after the quake hit.

I think that's a typo - I've only seen 2 dead on any of 10 different sources

The cellphone shutoff remains a bit of a mystery. I'm about a mile away from the blast and my cell is working fine. Someone tweeted this so they might have just shut off the towers in back bay (the neighborhood where the finish line is):

Apologies for my other thread. I didn't think to look in this sub section.

My thoughts go to all affected and hope the casualties remain low and the perpetrators and caught and justice is served

My prayers go out to all who have been affected by this. I'm concerned that this could be an opener for more attacks on open-air events that draw substantial crowds in urban areas. It is hard to secure every side street, storefront, and doorway in a city such as Boston.
