Unless there is clear evidence of who might have given support to these uckerfays it will be hard to retaliate. Chechnya is not exactly a foreign power but a rebellious Russian republic.

....we only need to look away, and give Putin a thumps up for to clear out that whole area once and for good with massive military force.

I've had the same thoughts on all counts.

Honestly, I did not expect Chechens... even after watching "Act of Valor".  I figured that they'd be too busy with Russia.  Truthfully, there is no mistake that any radicalized Muslims are a potential threat.

This morning, the wife and I were discussing the morning's events in Boston over breakfast.  I have to interject by tell you all that Atlantic Canadians (generally) feel a strong affiliation with "the Boston States" (basically meaning Maine, NH, and Mass.).  Many an Atlantic Canadian has close relatives in Boston; we've got Bruins, Bo-Sox, and Pats fans galore; all of our US network channels are Boston channels; and every year Nova Scotia sends a big-assed Christmas tree to the City of Boston to thank them for the aid that was given after the Halifax Explosion.  Truthfully, Atlantic Canadians are as aligned with New Englanders as anyone.

Anyway, so the wife and I are talking over breakfast and she says "When will they stop letting foreigners come here to go to school?  The 9/11 bombers were students, now these guys are students!  It's too risky to let them in!"  I chuckled and said "Sweetie, we're foreigners too!"  ::)

I guess it is a BS excuse...wouldn't it be easier to attempt an attack in Russia? Sounds like they just happen to be Chechen, but Chechnya is not their "cause." Al Qaeda style "jihad" sounds more like it.

I used to live in that area of Watertown.  Its right near the Perkins School for the Blind and that is a massive area with lots of buildings.

Emailed my friends who still live there haven't heard anything from them but it looks like they will eventually run this turkey to the ground.  Latest news is that he ran over his own brother in the escape attempt.  I am stuck at home since they shut the subway down and my wife took our only car so she could make her shift at the hospital this morning.

Kinda.  Democrats push for making it as easy as possible to register to vote.  They think having to have a legal photo ID or actually being a citizen disenfranchises people who want to vote (even if they can't legally vote).  Democrats are the ones who don't want to secure the borders.  Democrats are the ones who want illegal immigrant amnesty.  Democrats are the ones who want to extend a trusted traveler program to Saudi Arabia, etc.

A new report says that the older brother didn't just get to the US but has been here a number of years and has even been interviewed a while back by a news outlet on an unrelated matter (possibly amateur boxing?).


As an aside, the more I hear about yet another part of Greater Boston getting locked down by the search for one armed man the more uneasy I get about what this portends for the future of both public safety and civil liberties in this country. I completely understand why this is needed right now. What I worry about is how an expectation of similar measures in the future be manipulated toward a more sinister outcome by either terrorist (domestic or foreign) or individuals/groups within the government/information technologies industry 'partnership'. There is a movable baseline on the freedom/safety scale that could now be more readily manipulated by media/government/industry for self-gain. This event could also usher in a new paradigm for those individuals or groups who desire to create unprecedented media coverage of whatever brutality their mass socialization defects allow them to justify committing against the public.
