They even preserved the fact that in Pulp Fiction Jules was making up his quote as he went along. "The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness. For he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you."

The one part (in bold) he does accurately quote is in fact pretty close to Ez 25:17, but it isn't the path of the righteous man:

"I will execute great vengeance against them with furious rebukes. They will know that I am Yahweh when I take My vengeance on them."

Which is also what Fury is about to go do.  :knuppel2: O:-)


In a backhanded sort of way, it's a typical rabbinic rebuke: quote a verse that sounds like it means one thing, hiding the real punchline in the unspoken context. Combine with some midrash (commentary on the verse, possibly by referencing ideas from other verses) and there you go.  >:D

You'd think Downey's Ironman would be the one opposed to govt. take-over of the superheroes and Capt. would be the patriotic go-along.

That was my initial thought as well.  However, the second Cap movie strongly indicates The First Avenger is beginning to adopt the "anti-government/pro-freedom equals patriotic" line of thought.

That's the way it was in the Civil War storyline...Iron Man led the pro-government superheroes, while Cap led the other side.

Huh. I had seen some news yesterday indicating Marvel was going to go back to the Civil War well next year, but I wasn't expecting this. Probably should have though.

Notably, this ends with the death of Cap, and Bucky taking over the shield for a while. It doesn't stick (of course), but I bet in the Cinematic Universe it will. Though the main problem with people other than Cap taking over, is that even if they have the physical capabilities they tend to lack the moral purity (as even they'd admit).

I... can't say I'm overly fond of this, even though it kiiiinnnnd of makes sense the way the C-U is developing.

Incidentally, this may also explain the prevalence of a production promotional shot that has been making the rounds for a while, of Rogers and Stark standing around near each other suited up, from Avengers 2.

Chris Evans has been quite vocal about not playing Cap beyond his six movie deal which will likely end with Avengers 3. Marvel is already setting up Sebastian Stan (Bucky) to take over the part. Stan is under contract for 9 movies.
