No.  But I have been disappointed on some level with every Hollywood adaption I have ever seen of something I love, so this is just par for the course.

It's an old argument, that I have posted many times.  If it was good enough the way it was written, why in God's name does it have to be changed?!?!?!!!!!!!!!  I am super glad that LotR has been made.  NONE of the changes was, "necessary."  I am super glad they've done the Marvel movies.  NONE of the changes was, "necessary."  It won't stop.  Hollywood thinks it knows better.  And if I didn't know better, I'd say that Hollywood was a liberal, and we all KNOW that they know better.  Just ask one.  They'll tell you how you should think.

Totally agree with you about the libs, not sure I agree with not changing the stories. I don't want to see a film I already know how it ends. I want to be surprised by who Star Lord's real father is. In Wheddon's case, that's what he did so great with Buffy and Firefly. You could never see what was coming next especially the ending. Now Libs, you can always see them coming. Just look for a huge cloud of self-righteous hypocrisy and they're in there. ^-^

1.) I've been entirely pleased with SLJ's Nick Fury from the epilogue of IM1 onward; but I've never been a positive fan of the canon comics character. (Didn't dislike him, just wasn't a fan. And I know barely nothing of the Ultimates Nick Fury which is how we got SLJ in the role anyway.)


2.) Oh ye of little memories. Marvel had a few good movies before IM1, including at least two Sam Rami Spiderman films. I might even add the first (modern) Hulk movie, too, although it wasn't at all a good superhero movie (but then the Hulk is a Universal Monster, really, not a superhero.)


3.) It is entirely possible that Jackson is playing with the fans (on orders from the producers) to keep his appearance a secret -- we have no reason to believe he'd survive Av3.1, and his (real) death rather would be dramatically useful. Anthony Mackie denied being in Av2 practically up until release. Nick Fury originally was in Cap3, and his connection with Shield and re-establishment at the end of Av2, positions him relevantly in a plot about registering supers (or whatever they're calling them in the MCU this/next year.)

I was thinking of the MCU films. The Spiderman and X-Men films seem outside of Marvel, now that the MCU has been developed and fleshed out. The first two Raimi Spiderman films were excellent. Spiderman 2 holds up particularly well, imho.

I've always been somewhat ambivalent about the X-men movies. Most of them have been entertaining enough, but I've always had a sense they could have been 'more'.

The first Hulk movie was alright. The CGI doesn't hold up well though.

I strenuously doubt the Hulk per se will be in it. More likely Ruffalo would have a brief cameo as Banner.

Which makes sense because, in the MCU, the Hulk would be a Big Damn Reason for super-registration (and control), even though he took himself off the board at the end of Av2; but he really needs to be off the board in order not to tilt the balance too heavily either in favor of registration (by his existence and possible behaviors during the conflict, or even Banner's agreement in principle that people like him need to be shut down although that would be very out-of-character) or against it (by fighting on behalf of anti-registration).

It may not be coincidence that the Planet Hulk storyline was running in comics canon during Civil War: the Hulk was entirely off the board. Which is also why people kept speculating that Av2 would segue into something-like-Planet Hulk for a while (maybe providing a bridge to the Guardians).

Hard to imagine bringing Ruffalo in and not showing a scene or two with the Hulk. I'm still expecting him to leave Earth, whether by his own choice or being forced off, in order to set up a Planet Hulk/Guardians tie-in. Since that didn't happen in AoU, it may well happen during Cap 3.

Even if it's Ruffalo only as Banner in Cap 3, I'd welcome it. Ruffalo's Banner is one of the most interesting MCU characters, imho.

Why not? It's part of an overall story. Why would they personally care? It's not like it's the end of the character or of a role in the future films. It could even lead to a new stand-alone Hulk film.

And Hulk going off-world doesn't necessarily require his capture. Banner could go willingly, a self-imposed exile to protect the planet. Or maybe he identifies some alien tech that could help him control the Hulk. He wasn't captured and forced off-world in the Planet Hulk story line, he was tricked into it.

What I was saying was that it can't be that important to the plot or they wouldn't be talking as though Ruffalo might possibly be on set now maybe. It would already be in the plot.

Consequently, I infer they're talking about Ruffalo making a cameo as Banner (or maybe filming some new minor mo-cap footage as the Hulk to play in the background). But if they're making huge changes toward Planet Hulk this late in pre-production (or start of production), I'm not sure that bodes well.
