Warlock error help

I changed monitors last night. After doing so, I tried to fire up Warlock to see what it would look like ( I was going from a 15" CRT to a 18.5" LED flat screen). At the title screen I got an error popup. It said, "Application Aborted Cannot creat device: hr=8876086C (D3DERR_INVALIDCALL)." Only being computer literate enough to turn the bloody thing on, I wondered if some of you smart guys could help me out. Maybe have a few suggestions as to what I can do other than uninstall/reinstall. Any help is appreciated.

switch off, switch on, press and hold F8 key before windows logo pops up and youll get the option there to start in safe mode

I saw him playing a few minutes ago on Steam. He hasn't been back. That's a good sign.

Unless his PC ate him. In which case it's not a good sign.

Trying feverishly to figure what I am supposed to change. Got in Safe Mode. Went to Display in the Control Panel. Changed the Setting to 12** by 10** (don't remember he other two numbers denoted by the * symbol). Applied it and Restarted. Fired up Warlock and still got the same error. Thoughts on what exactly I am supposed to do?

Does Warlock have a safe mode and that's what they meant instead of Windows Safe Mode?

I assume your screen res is 1280 x 1064 x 32bit. Start Warlock from the desktop icon rather than through Steam and select safe mode from there and check that the resolutions match. Also maybe worth verifiying the steam files in case you have a missing or corrupt file.

Maybe it's a driver issue? Did you get any new video card or driver to go with the new monitor?
