DRM blues?

I finally bite the bullet and buy DCS: Huey, FC3, and Combined Arms.  I decide to do a clean install because my version is out of date.  I get everything installed, (which means spending about 45 minutes getting my old copy of Flaming Cliffs to work) I fire it up, activate my new modules...and then it wants me to activate one of my old modules Black Shark 2.  I put in the code... "No soup for you!" it tells me...

After much hair pulling, I think their website is messed up.  I already had Black Shark and I remember when I first installed Black Shark 2 the file I downloaded said "Upgrade", but now both files are the same with the same size, same name, and have the same md5 hash..surely that isn't the way it is supposed to be.

I'd rather think I downloaded the wrong file than to think their DRM is sticking it to me. :(

I've had a lot of difficulty getting my Blackshark 2 upgrade to work.  This is particularly frustrating to me because I have bought the original Blackshark FOUR friggin' times!  I first bought the Russian version beta, then the English version beta, then I got it on disc when I saw it on the shelf, and finally i bought it on steam.  There is no reason why I should have to jump through crazy hoops to get BS2 running.  I never figured it out, and just caved with the full BS2 version when it went on sale.

Yeah.. if you purchased the "upgrade" version, you gotta have your original BS installed first.. then the proper upgrade edition on top. 

I got my original BS through Steam and if I gotta install fresh, I have to download that whole damn thing first even though it doesn't use those files after using the upgrade pack.

The point of my post is that if you installed the full BS2 pack, those have different serial numbers than the BS Upgrade version.

I had it installed, I was actually installing a 2nd copy.  It seems their downloads are messed up.  I went ahead and updated my original install to 1.2.4.14196...but the most recent modules you can download is 1.2.4.12913....  I checked their forums and others are sharing in my joy.

This would be a great sim except for..............

I stopped with LOMAC 1.02. That is almost what I would consider the perfect sim. Nice selection of planes. Mission editor. Mission recorder. No DRM.

I already have one useless sim due to this type of crap. That's enough.

I hope you guys get things worked out.

When I bought BS 2 it threw 1 and 2 upgrade in the cart... I thought that was how they sell it.. then it only sent me the download link for 2... It was a royal pain in the ass trying to find a download for 1!.. and  of course it wouldn't install without 1 on my PC!

Just wanted to say I got it working.  The module manager in DCS world reinstalled Black Shark 2 for me and it worked out great.

I didn't want my post to disparage DCS, since its working great now.  :)

That's good to hear. It does not change my buying decision but it's good to hear. ;)
