The big 1.6 patch for Minecraft was released yesterday.  It updated the game launcher so make sure and download that before trying to update the game.  Amidst many other additions and fixes the game finally added horses!!!!

Grum? Herobrine? What be these invocations? I haven't played Minecraft for a few years now since it made my 'puter run hot enuf to fry bacon on.

From what I gather both of those aren't game play elements but easter egg type things from the developers.

Herobrine is a joke. He has never been in Minecraft but he is the subject of many of the "creepy pasta" meme stories (haunted Minecraft, supposedly Notch's non-existent brother).

You do need to get a utility to convert old texture packs to resource packs. It isn't exactly intuitive.
