All these pre-orders holding back release day features is starting to piss me off. 

I hope that Paradox has learned from it's CK2 release on how to put their new in-house titles through long beta testing.  But when all these extras are dangled beforehand, it makes me a bit wary of how many issues will be left at release. 

Not to mention.. how much they'll charge extra for them later on, which essentially makes them Day-0 DLC.

By all the press accounts, including reports from the massive LAN event paradox had a few months ago, EUIV is shaping up really well. Think it was Rob Zacney from Three Moves Ahead who said that the old Paradox would have released it 6-8 months ago.

Probably going to be par for the course for Paradox going forward. I don't see anything they have done that would give's me the impression they are holding back features for DLC. One could argue republics, muslim nations, and the vikings should have been in CK2 from the beginning. But given all the normal feudal factions that were available and the variety of game play I really don't mind it. Units models, music packs, etc could hardly be called holding back features.

I wouldn't consider music packs Day-0 DLC, since there's not really any difference in the game other than background music.  But holding back graphics that were made prior to release day is rather iffy.  Certainly holding back the importer, a game feature, could be considered day-0 DLC. 

To be fair, TW Rome 2 is also doing this by holding back their Greek Factions for pre-orderers.

I've seen some such pre-order bonuses held back for a time, then released for free in an update a month or two later.  That's pretty reasonable.  But this kind of release day DLC is a slippery slope.  I mean.. the game will be what..$40 or $50 and they want to charge for an extra feature right out of the gate?

I dunno.. does this not sound like it could lead to worse examples in the future?  Maybe they will be adding the importer in a free update later on, but that's not the impression I get.

Unless you play zoomed in CK2/EU4, then units sprite are not a huge deal.

I do think SEGA/CA making the Greeks (and eventually most of the eastern factions) as DLC is pushing it a little far. That only gives us 9 factions at the start. IIRC Rome 1 had something like 15-20. I think that you get more for your money with the paradox model of games and DLC.

I just caved and preordered EU 4. I am reading fairly good previews from sources I trust, so I am comfortable preordering this time.

stop talking about this game....I have been so good not to pre-order so far, but starting to crack......I just fear it will turn out the same as when I have played past versions.  I think I should really love it, but then get completely lost in it.....this one seems to talk a good game about possibly being a little more friendly......what to do:(

That is the rationale way at looking at things....but that is not the Reaper's way.....too many impulses:)

Yeah.  I've got about eight dollars worth right now.. figured it'll probably go towards The Old Gods DLC when it goes on sale.  I'd actually buy that one earlier if I planned on playing CK2 soon but my 'To Play' list is already stacked up with stuff I've not even installed yet. 

Due to the backlog, I'm waffling about purchasing EU4 and Space Hulk this month.  Dominions 4 may still be an insta-buy, however.  Having already pre-ordered TW Rome 2, I'm thinking the month or two after probably won't see the first two in my inventory, either.  It's not often I can say "no" to such games.
