If memory serves this is intended for Gusington.

I have been playing Age of Pirates 2  recently,  the unmodded original because I don't like the mods.  Apart from the anachronistic Spanish flag I haven't found anything that really bothers me.  It's basically a late model Sea Dogs, which I loved.

There are occasional crashes, but nowhere near as frequent as some have suggested.  To guard against it, though, I've simply made a habit of saving every time I leave a port.  What I have seen so far seems quite stable, and I love the fact that you can use the option sliders to turn off the music and the dialog bits.

I finally encountered a potential game-killer, but after some digging on the web came across the solution, which seems to work.

The problem is that if you sail to a certain beach a guy comes running up to you and starts speaking with no text in the dialog box.  There's nothing to click on to advance the scene, and shortly thereafter the game crashes to desktop.

A temporary fix for those with problems on the Tenochtitlan quest (getting a guy with empty dialog):

Please note this is not official in any way, and I can take no responsibility if this solution messes up your save game, or otherwise hurts the game. Do this at your own risk, and please backup your save.

First of all, make sure Age of Pirates is closed (don't do this while the game is running)

Backup the files in the following folders so you can revert back to them if necessary:
(Age of Pirates Base Directory)\Program\DIALOGS\russian\Quest\Tenochtitlan
(Age of Pirates Base Directory)\Program\Text\Dialogs\Quest\Tenochtitlan

There should be 3 files in each of those directories, for 6 files in total.

Edit all 6 of those files in a text editor (such as WordPad).
You'll need to replace all instances of the word "DLG_TEXT" with "DLG_TEXT_TE" (WITHOUT quotes) in all 6 files.

To do that in WordPad for instance:

1. Open one of the files.
2. Click Edit, then click Replace.
3. In the "Find what:" box, type in DLG_TEXT
4. In the "Replace With:" box, type in DLG_TEXT_TE
5. Click the "Replace All" button.
6. Save.
7. Repeat on the remaining 5 files.

Now try to talk to the man who had a blank dialog box again.

It works so you should have any more issues.

That is indeed the game (and I got my copy from Amazon as well).

And the game most certainly is worth it.  The ship battles are great, and boarding is a blast.  There's a small learning curve to sword fighting, but I much prefer the way it's handled to what happens in Sea Dogs or Pirates of the Caribbean (aka Sea Dogs I and II -- this is effectively Sea Dogs IV).

A word of caution.  If you manage to convince a waitress to join you in the sack, make sure your valuables are in a safe place -- some of them have very sticky fingers.  I'm pretty sure that half your money dissapearing in a situation like that isn't a bug, which is why you should stick to brothels for that kind of entertainment.

I really like this game, I tried really hard to play it, but the crashes killed it for me. I tried it with the mods because they were suppose to fix some bugs.  I should give this a try in vanilla.

Yeah the entry is still available at Gamersgate, but there is no buy option.
This has been so for ages now. Not sure why they won't let you buy it, yet advertise the game.

It's darn hard to find.

This is a game that would havee to be an impulse buy for me via digital downlaod. If I ordered it the old fashioned way, you know, where it comes on a disc in a box in the mail, I'd probably lose interest while I waited for it to arrive...
