Thanks - actually I've just discovered FlightGear which is free and the mouse control seems a bit more intuitive.  This will probably do nicely. :)

I made an attempt to get into xplane last winter and flew the jar designs A320.  The plane was great and the x64 xplane performs great, but ultimately I shelved it.  The awful ATC, Awful weather and clouds, awful AI traffic, and bare bones scenery bumbed me out so I went back to prepare.  I took another look at xplane this week because the flightfactor 767 just released and it looks awesome, but I know I will just get bored with xplane again.  I wish xplane had all the quality addons and orbx scenery that fsx/prepar3d have, I would permanently make the switch.

FYI orbx is close to releasing it's version of SoCal, that will be a blast flying over my home town with orbx eyecandy goodness to look at.

That is why I fly X-Plane in VATSIM (I do the same in FSX). Solves the AI and ATC problem.
64 bit is what I'm going for.

OK.. just installed a New Motherboard/CPU/Memory.. Should I move to Steam? Or do the benefits not out weigh the trouble with installing certain add ons?

Not sure because I didn't get the (FSX) Steam version.  Despite the claim that it is more stable, and still being supported by the developers unlike the dead Microsoft FSX, the fact that it is still 32 bit means that you will still get the out of memory (OOM) issue  if you use certain demanding add-ons.  To elaborate, even if you have 16GB of memory, FSX can only use only 4GB as it is a 32 bit program.  Though having more memory will still help in running external programs related to FSX at the same time.  The investment in CPU does help.

Don't know where by other post went.
But the latest news on the flightsim scene are as follows.

1)  New product called Dovetail Flight School was announced.  It's a stripped down Flight Simulator X Steam Edition, with a similar concept to the now-dead Microsoft Flight but Dovetail (the guys who made Steam Edition) put in some improvements in the graphics.
2)  The next iteration of FS Steam Edition will be Dovetail Flight Simulator 2016.  And it will include graphical and engine advancements made in Dovetail Flight School.  But I'm not buying anything based on FSX until it goes 64 bit.  This is the main reason why I'm still using X-Plane.

FSX is so much prettier though!!!

Actually Xplane has the power to be prettier, it just doesn't have the addon support from 3rd parties like ORBX.

Looks like I will be hanging them up from flight simming...  my pc was hit by lighting and vaporized and I just don't have the time or patience to setup FSX again from scratch and tweak.  Maybe one day I will, but for now I think I have a fork in me.

Hit by lighting?

That's how I was when my HD crashed last year, PE.  I think about how much work and time it took to get FSX up and running like I had it, and I just can't bare the thought of hunting down all those downloads and keys, installing everything, tweaking everything....ugh.

Sounds exactly like me when my HDD crashed last month. Just haven't bothered to reinstall everything FSX related from scratch. I have a backup of everything, but almost all have to be reinstalled anyway and that takes a long time.

After assembling my new PC and looking forward at reinstall and tweaking FSX:SE or jumping over to P3D..... I have decided to jump on board with X-Plane 10.  After digging around and doing some research I believe it is the best path forward.  Once major draw is the flight dynamics and not having to tweak and re-tweak etc....

My plan moving forward is starting with the JARDesgin A330 Study Sim and then branching out from there.  Does anyone have recommended add-ons?  I see SkyMaxx Pro V3 is one I will probably pick up once I am ready.

And then some of the following.

I just am ready for something different.....

x737 is free and now has 3D cockpit.
http://eadt.eu/
Though to make the most out of it, you have to buy the x737FMC
http://ufmc.eadt.eu/x737FMC
Or install the free X-FMC
http://www.x-fmc.com/

If you want a proper 737 get the IXEG 737 Classic.  It's an older model of 737 but well made.  A bit expensive.

There's a lot more nice planes.  But a 737 in your hangar is essential.  Since it's a right sized airliner not too big and not too small.  An A320 (Jar design) is an alternative if you're into airbus.

X-Plane has lots of GA planes to choose from and it may be more visually satisfying to fly low in X-Plane than cruise at high altitude.

For environment, Skymaxx pro and Real Weather Connector are pretty good.

For airports, I suggest looking for a free version in X-Plane.org before buying a commercial product. There are many free airport that match or surpass the quality of payware as you can see from your link.

The plugins in your link are pretty essential.

PanzersEast

Thanks jomni, how is the 777?  I have my eye on the A330 and A32x.  I also saw the release of the IXEG 737 and it looks pretty sweet.
