So, Grim Dawn (by the Titan Quest crew) is coming...?

This may be a ridiculous question but is there a manual way to 'save anywhere' in Grim Dawn, or are saves generated only when rift gates are found? I didn't see any key command for saving in the options menu.

That's a good question. I think you save back at the home base, IIRC, or possibly it autosaves when you step through one of those gates. I can't recall, sorry. I'd like to get back to it eventually...both Grim Dawn and Wasteland 2 mock me relentlessly from my library.

Thanks BC. It saves your stats and loot automatically, it looks like. But it also looks like there is no save to your total progress until you use one of those gates, and it doesn't look like there is a save anywhere option.

Really enjoyed the hour or so I played so far...essy to get into with depth.

Just curious...how has Grim Dawn turned out?  Seems like it is still in EA, but is it worth getting while on sale?  Been thinking about it, but not sure based on what I have read.

It has just become feature complete. Release is slated for q1 2016.
I like the game very much.
Its great fun with open ended character development and a cool 'van Helsing'-esque atmosphere.

I hope they deliver on the promised Linux version!

I picked it up yesterday (yes I was weak) and proceeded to put a good 3 hours into it. Somewhat repetitive but fun and there are a number of different systems to keep it interesting.
Insert witty comment here.

I put about 5-6 hours into it, I enjoyed it well enough but it did feel repetitive to me. I'll go back to it at some point though. IIRC I also go to a certain point where I was kind of stuck and had trouble advancing.

The guts are still quite Titan Quest style.  But there are new classes, campaign features, setting, etc.

The final bit of content was released before Xmas.  Now it's just down to final bug squashing.

I'm not sure if some future patch will require you restart characters from the beginning, but I've been holding off until I find out.  Since Underrail just got it's official release, and I've been doing some Marvel Heroes, I have other RPGs to keep me busy in the meantime.  :)

How is Underrail? Looks interesting.

Interesting isometric RPG indie with turn-based combat.  The setting & character options are pretty cool.

I wish your character would move around faster while out of combat but it's not been a big deal thus far.  It can be pretty brutal starting off; you gotta be careful a pack of Rathounds doesn't eat you straight away.

Reminiscent of stuff like Fallout 2, but with people living in subway tunnels & such underground, after the apocalypse.  Or  the Avernum/Avadon series from Spiderweb, but with a lot more character customization options, items, crafting, etc; i.e. more RPG stuff.

It also has two different options for gaining XP & level-ups.  There is a classic style which awards it for killing stuff and completing missions/quests.  But the default is an "Oddity" xp system wherein you find strange items as loot in containers, from hostile kills/pickpockets, etc.  It should allow for more stealthy & non-lethal approaches to situations while still getting about as many opportunities to advance your character.  Also.. the Oddity items themselves are part of the lore and add some interesting loot to find.

I started a TK & Mind Control Psionic character on my first go, but I'm thinking of re-rolling to take only one of those and some more crafting and/or lockpicking type skills to start, along with some extra melee or firearms.  Want moar skills!  Dude got taken down by a pack of aforementioned Rathounds before I could take them all down (and I decided not to run for the stairs to safety when given the chance).   Haven't even encountered Mutants or Crazies yet.  :buck2:

I recommend using the F5 quicksave regularly.  It's old-school RPG difficulty early on.

^How's exploration? Fun?

Dunno yet.  I keep dying.

There certainly aren't any artificial blocks for more difficult areas than you can handle.  Hell, they're all difficult. After scraping past the initial Rathound pack encounter, by luring them near a barrel with explosive contents and shooting it, I wandered into one of the Crazies (Psionicist gone mad) with his pack of dogs.  They murderized me in no time.

I've been using Normal difficulty but at this rate, Easy mode is gonna be happening.  :buck2:  Or I'll give in to starting a Grim Dawn character sometime soon.
