...(with its Channel campaign automatically added in)...

...what add-ons do players most recommend to initially flesh out the game? My guess is the Birth of Flight, bomber, and St. Mihil campaign add ons.

Also, I've asked before several months ago about flight-stick recommendations, but I've slept since then so, what sticks would players suggest for a Win8 machine?

(I have a gamepad, btw, in case the game works at all well with that.)

I may have to give ROF another shot sometime in the future, myself.  Now that I have a TrackIR and a HOTAS, it'll be more fun.

I recall trying it out during a period when they had some server login issues, and that was something that drove me away at the time because I was getting dropped and login denied afterward.

I am a little bummed they didn't find a way to allow previous customers the ability to also use Steam...as it stands right now, they are two separate versions and you would have to buy two different versions to have on each platform.

That sounds like a server architecture problem.

Yep, that is generally what they claimed...but would have been nice if there was a way to share/transfer licenses between the two....oh well, no big deal....haven't played it much in the last year anyway, hard to keep up with all the DLC:)

Steam certainly helps with that! Although on the other hand the Steam DLC are all packed into sets, so if you want one or two things you're screwed.

Maybe the RoF publishers would set up some kind of deal with Steam where they sell access to the Steam library cheap to people who already own the website version. That doesn't fix the two separate server problems though...

I agree with you a lot of people sunk a lot of money into RoF.. .. I would be only fair to let your customers that supported you in the beginning join the battles on Steam, without having to 'buy' all over again.

Are the people playing on Steam completely separated from multiplayer with the others??!!  Completely separate servers? :o

Players from steam and direct from the company can still play each other so that is not an issue....just can't cross purchases and such

Oh, okay.  Thanks for clarifying.

I would be astonished if they kept their user base separated like that.

OK, that's cool then.. lol.. we should all go on some night and horrify the mp community!!.. are there free servers on Steam? Or do you have to go on the 'private' ones that people paid for on their own?
