Vassal aside, I really have never seen a good port from boardgame to computer game.  And given the cost....going to wait on this one to see how it settles.

Guess what? The highly-acclaimed board game Conflict of Heroes is now selling at 50% off. :D

Suprising how Matrix put a 1 year old game on sale.

I'm not terribly surprised.  I don't think that the game sold that well (I very well may be wrong on that) so if a sale gets those on the fence that perhaps have never tried a "true" boardgame conversion to leap, then perhaps they will see that it really is a great game/port and that perhaps, just perhaps, they will turn an eye towards that other big boardgame port that recently came out (the name of which escapes me at the moment  ;) ).

Well, I guess I caved in and purchased, sort of..... :)  Decided this is the perfect xmas gift for my wife to get me so the order was placed today.....perfect kind of gift, something I likely wouldn't have purchased on my own, and if I don't end up liking it, chalk it up to a bad gift:)

Only downside, have to wait a month or so to play it:(  Oh well, maybe all the kinks will be worked out by then......if I don't feel too guilty, maybe I even sneak a peak or two at the PDF manuals/videos.:)   Sssshhhhh....don't tell anyone!

Well - there is a new module coming out so I guess they are thinking this may catch a few new adopters and persuade them to but the new one.

You may talk the talk and appear to be quite easy going to foster popularity, but to the MAN I say F*CK YOU." And Steve G is F******g rude ? Just another day on the BF forum ... one demented idiots reaction to BF disagreeing about the thickness of the armour on a Tiger II turret mantlet.

Got to LOVE the replies over at Matrix about this.

People are bitching about the shipping cost (my gripe also). They are willing to pay the same amount for the digital download but just for Matrix to keep the manuals so that they don't have to pay shipping (I am not)  ;D

There is SO MUCH new blood over at Matrix because of this game - but I'm afraid it looks to be very obnoxious blood. The replies are really not helpful in the slightest and in fact quite inflammatory in a lot of cases.

There's a couple of special idiots continually bitching about how crap an AI is in any game and it will be awful in this and no-one has a right to want one...not understanding for a split second that some people want an AI. People aren't even bitching about no AI - they're just saying it's a no buy until there's an AI and then these two idiots jump in - just being totally not helpful.

I don't understand why these people are on the forums bitching about the people who are bitching? It's kind of comical. Why are they not playing this super game or reading those manuals?

What seems to grab my balls is - why are those stand up

What adds fuel to the fire is NO-ONE from Matrix/Slitherine even sticking their nose in to answer the VERY simple question - "don't give us your bullshit marketing...why are we having to pay postage for manuals we do not want" (the bullshit marketing being "we know what's best for you and this game and what is best is us forcing the manuals on you at great cost")

For the record - my bitch isn't personally about the manuals being forced. I wouldn't buy the game as DD even if it was cheaper. I want those manuals...but I'm not paying their ridiculous shipping costs. But I DO understand the gripes about why physical shipping is forced on people and I do understand the gripes about Matrix/Slitherine not getting on their and being honest.

Oh - and of course the usual crappy analogies come out.  ;D

- I agree about the discussions on AI or no AI....doesn't make sense to me at all why fight about it.  For me I would prefer an AI, I am not a famous general and most entry level AI can beat me, so I would take whatever they got:)  But either way, I would respect that some want an AI and others don't, no need to fight about it.  Move on.

- I have always found it interesting that different game launches at Matrix receive different attention from the Matrix staff......Distant Worlds releases and seems like the Matrix staff are very much involved in the forums....something like WIF releases as well as like Flashpoint and you hardly know they exist with very few, if any posts.  Seems a bit uneven....would think all releases would garner their equal attention.

- I'll never understand their decision for requiring the books, besides the fact they must have been forced to do it that way for some reason.  I don't buy the physical books are necessary to enjoy the game.  ebooks are just fine for most people and that is the way most people do them nowadays.  The game comes with PDF manuals and to be honest I bet most people would have read them prior to their physical books even show up.   But with that said, I am with you JD that I actually wanted the books, but certainly would have thought twice if the shipping would have been that much for me.

We'll see how things turn out.....not a ton of posts on actual gameplay yet and that is the important part.....won't be able to contribute my thoughts until xmas day:(

lol - you should do what I did one year GR...I ordered a couple of games for Christmas from my wife...an FPS - I think it was Allied Assault:Pacific (the Japanese war game) and Madden NFL (some year). When they came, I installed them and put them back in the box and gave them to my wife for Christmas.

I was playing them for a month before I got them on Christmas day  ;)

Some people call it devious - I said clever :)

Don't think that hasn't crossed my mind......I have the downloaded game, PDF manuals, and videos in my possession....how long will I be able to hold off without installing:)  My wife would never know since she is clueless about my games, except for the fact I spend a lot of money on them.

Let the countdown begin on how many days before I cheat on my xmas gift:)

JudgeDredd

You could kind of "split" it...use the game, and keep the beautiful manuals for your Christmas

Just sayin  ;)

Well the game is so much appealing to those sad WiF fans who all these years played with their board games all by them selves.  I think this is the majority of buyers.  They will never understand how other computer gamers feel.

I don't even think you'll need to install it before Xmas... Just watching the videos and reading the manuals will take into next year.   :-)

And you see those people mentioned above asking the users to consolidate all their AI, Manual, Shipping complaints all into one thread so that they don't flood their beloved boards. :)

Have to install in order to play the videos and read the PDFs :). If i do that, will have little will power to not fire up the game itself.

lol - like you have any willpower anyway!

People on here think we were split at birth!  ;)
