Silent Disapproval Robot

Downloaded for me starting at 23:00 PST.  I stayed up far too late to fiddle around with it.  Made a quick mission so I could fly around Altis in an AH-9 and shoot up a few vehicles and infantry.  Seems good.  I get generally good framerates with settings at high and a long view distance.  I did get a few slowdowns when I zoomed in the view in built up areas but mostly good.

They shipped it without a single player campaign but said it'll be released "soon".

We'll be starting to play MP ArmA III with the SimHQ crowd starting this weekend.  Join up!

So what is the difference between the release and the last development build?  In downloading the final release I only got a 157mb file.  Does this speak to the quality of the last development build, or should there be disappointment that the actual release is devoid of new content?

Is there any single player play at all?  like individual scenarios? or is it just all multiplayer?

I don't have it but I'm pretty sure it comes with single missions or campaign
Then there's the editor for sandbox fun.   And there's also planned assault.

There are a fair number of single missions and "showcases" which act as kind of a hands on tutorial for different game aspects.

I haven't been following the blow-by-blow completely on this, but the gist I got from some of the forums I browse is that you should be disappointed that the actual release is devoid of new content.

I think, but I'm not sure, that these guys had to hit a deadline and so didn't put in everything they wanted to put in.

Or, they're awaiting the community modders to pick up the slack.

Overall it's a good game, but probably should have had a lot more "stuff" before an "official" release.  No matter to me, I bought it in alpha so I didn't even realize it was "official" now...just another day of ARMA3 for me.

Same here.  I started noticing that there was something about Mainbattle tanks on the forums, but I didn't see any in the game (there are betabuilds in the beta that you have to manually get Steam to put on so that you get the beta of the beta).  I noticed that the official release (hopefully not the beta of the beta of the official release) was coming up so I decided to wait for that since it might just load everything available -- though of course there could be betas of the patches etc.etc.  I will look and see sometime soon if there's anything new in the version that gets loaded automatically on steam or if I have to punch a button somewhere to get the latest version.

Or maybe....Since It seems I have to fool with steam in any case...I'll just get Take on Mars!

FWIW, I understand that the infantry combat is much better than ARMA2.  I haven't spent much time with ARMA3 yet, and I pretty much suck at the game anyway, so the nuances are lost on me.  The SimHQ crowd loves the improvements, though.

The thing is, they slapped on all release material in the final beta build.

Will there be a non-Steam DVD version of this one?  All my ARMA stuff comes in a disc.

There will be a boxed version available but you'll still have to activate it through Steam to play.

Then might as well get the Steam version.

I've noticed that for me at least it is easier to get grenades to go where you want them to go.  I find the assault rifles work somewhat more intuitively or convincingly.  The destructible objects seem more destructable.  The ocean works much better.  The landscapes are more convinving than ever.

Infantry movement is the key factor that has been drastically improved from prior ARMA versions.  It makes a tremendous difference.

I haven't even scratched the surface of everything that is in ARMA 3.

Check out these cool pictures this dude on SimHQ posted of a mission he created: Australia vs African rebels...

LOL, I feel like I'm the ARMA 3 champion of Grogheads or something this morning!

Check this out:

That's a lot to look forward to! How about the Arma 2 content library? Will there be some form of backwards compatibility?

Originally, we had an idea that was similar to Take On Rearmed. Unfortunately, upgrading the Arma 2 massive content library to Arma 3 standards is beyond what we can do in reasonable time. So instead, what we are going to do will be similar to Arma 1: we are going to release the entire Arma 2 library to the community and allow them create any derivative work within Arma 3. More details will be announced very soon.

WOW!
