Someone is taking this whole shutdown standoff rhetoric a little too seriously.

(CNN) – U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said on Thursday that one person was injured in a shooting on Capitol Hill, CNN's Dana Bash reports.

Police are reacting to reports of shots fired on Capitol Hill in Washington. An order was given over the Capitol speaker system to shelter in place because of an active shooter situation.

There were reports of multiple gunshots near the Senate Hart Office Building, and people were seen running.

Capitol Police sent out the following advisory to staffers:

"SHELTER IN PLACE. Gunshots have been reported on Capitol Hill requiring all occupants in all House Office Buildings to shelter in place. Close, lock and stay away from external doors and windows. Take annunciators, Go Kits and escape hoods; and move to the innermost part of the office away from external doors or windows. If you are not in your office, take shelter in the nearest office, check in with your OEC and wait for USCP to clear the incident. No one will be permitted to enter or exit the building until directed by USCP. All staff should monitor the situation. Further information will be provided as it becomes available."

The House and Senate went into recess after the shooting.

On an unrelated note, every time I hear the words Senate, Congress, and recess in the same sentence I think of Monkey Bars...

Senior congressional staffers and one eyewitness told Fox News the incident began with a car chase, which came to a stop near the Capitol building. Sources said several police cars were in pursuit. When they boxed in the other vehicle, the driver got out and five or six shots were fired, sources said.

Witnesses saw a baby being taken from the car.

Nicholas Cage's agent says the actor is "on vacation" and cannot be reached at this time.  ;)

Update: the remark about the baby has been removed from FoxNews' breaking account. Update2: Annnnnd the baby is back now.

Fox sources indicate the chase started when a woman tried to ram a gate near the White House.

I don't buy the post partem depression BS that the media is shoving down our throats.   Something else is wrong here.

On the Today show, one of her neighbors claimed the lady believed she was being stalked by Obama.
Sad to say if this is true, she had really taken leave of her senses.  Just a cursory glance at any news outlet would tell a reasonable person he has been nowhere near Connecticut.  She needed to be in a mental health facility's care.

I don't buy the post partem depression BS that the media is shoving down our throats.   Something else is wrong here.

This isn't like it was a decade ago when the cops had a good handle on the facts pretty quickly and released info.

Now it's got to bubble up to a confusion center where they play social media on everyone, try to figure out if she had ever known anyone who may have passed someone from Grogheads in the grocery store and then run that down to see who else was involved.

As they do that, they're very reluctant to give out lots of facts because, well, the impossible is possible if your imagination is good enough and you just never know.  ::)

I have to admit though the only news I've been following on this story is based on my local liberal radio station.  It's what I listen to on the drive to and from work and only because they have the best traffic report in town.

I haven't followed it closely but the best I can tell is that the woman was being treated for severe mental illness. Speculation ranges even to the point where she may have had post-partem play a role (though I have trouble with that reasoning and remain skeptical).

Since firearms are already outlawed in DC, I'm looking forward to legislation banning dark sport coupes. Her Infinity was certainly evil looking enough to scare anyone.
