Either of them. I could be absolutely wrong, but I haven't heard of upheaval like that in a long time. Was the breakaway back in 1991 full of protests like that?

When the government is telling the people "no, screw you, we're staying close to Russia" and the people are saying "no, screw YOU, you had your chances, we want to go with Europe," that's a recipe for no good.

I'm not all that familiar with the Ukranian government - if things got chaotic would they ask for Russian help to maintain order? Are their ties to the old USSR still too fresh to think of that option? Are there elements in power in the Ukraine that think the USSR was "the good ol' days" and want to merge back? Is Medvedev a commie-in-the-closet waiting to come out?

I saw yesterday that Time put Mandela on the cover (don't know when that issue came out or if it was one of those special jobs they hammer out to try to cash in).

Of course, they put Hitler on the cover also, so what do they know.   ::)

They'll get an uptick likely thanks to "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" once it hits theaters December 25. That movie looks like it will be a hit, although looks can be deceiving of course.

On a side note about magazines, it's pretty hilarious that they sell them electronically for the same amount they cost in stores...at least hilarious from my consumer point of view. I would think they'd be a lot cheaper electronically to encourage people to actually buy them. As it stands with me, I subscribe to World at War Magazine, but that's about it.

On a lighter note (heh) it looks like the NSA did a crackerjack job of keeping us all safe from ourselves, but may have missed a minor detail in South Africa:

A relative and three friends of the bogus sign language interpreter at the Nelson Mandela memorial service say he was among a group of people who accosted two men found with a stolen television and burned them to death in 2003.

They told The Associated Press that tires were placed around the men's necks and set ablaze. Unlike two other suspects who went to trial in 2006 for the killings, the four said on Monday that Thamsanqa Jantjie never did because authorities determined he wasn't mentally fit.
