Scare tactics are the norm in the UK now - have been for some time now, but moreso in the last decade or so imo...or at least I am more aware of it.

You'd think if these buggers were half good at their job, they'd be able to run a positive campaign and tell people what they have done and what they plan to do - building on their positive time in office, instead of telling you how bad the other people are going to be.

But I suppose they'll use whatever works.

I do think this negative campaigning is what drives people away from politics.

Going back to the Blair government - they started off on the right tracks but not only did they lose their way - but they moved slowly but surely towards the centre and even went past that imo.

I'm not for a state that's out of control on it's spending. I don't want a country full of layabouts. I do want a country that has a safety net for people who's wages, through no fault of their own, are not keeping up with the cost of living and I do want a country that is fair in it's taxation.

I'll say again - if I'm willing to see a rise in my base tax rate to make sure people considerably worse off than myself don't fall further behind than I don't get the greed that drives others who are on considerably more than me - and yes - I'm talking about the governments 5p cut on the top rate of income tax whilst at the same time stealing money from the very lowest in society.

At the same time, I am also for raising the allowance before that higher rate comes in.

I have to agree wholeheartedly with Staggerwing, MetalDog and JudgeDredd - 100%. 8)

If JD ever stands for Parliament in my constituency he will get my vote. He says it exactly as it should be in the UK. O0
The most shocking fact about war is that its victims and its instruments are individual human beings, and that these individual beings are condemned by the monstrous conventions of politics to murder or be murdered in quarrels not their own. Aldous Huxley

On a good day, our legislature has the prestige of a drunk urinating on a wall at 4am and getting most of it on his shoe. On a good day  ::) Steelgrave

It's kind of silly to investigate whether or not a Clinton is lying. That's sort of like investigating why the sky is blue. Banzai_Cat

What's right of right, but not too close to crazy right?

Me. I ran against Genghis Khan once for President of Mongolia but he beat me as a moderate. I wanted to build the Great Wall of Mongolia and make the Chinese pay for it.  :uglystupid2:

You were not appealing enough to the average middle income Mongol. You should have concentrated on affordable Yurts for the younger members of the Mongol community, and cutting the tax on Koumiss. ;)

The key to surviving this site is to not say something which ends up as someone's tag line - Steelgrave
