I'll post an AAR of sorts in a short while, to show one of the scenarios and how the way the Germans fight in Barbarossa is somewhat different than in 1942 or later.

I was just coming here to post this.  Buying direct from the developer will save some money and get you Steam codes, but GamersGate has the best deal on all three - you can get the entire Eastern front campaign for less than $11 - a lot less money than Gary Grigsby's game and a lot more accessable, too.

The pack at Gamersgate only contains the original and the first DLC.

Black Turn is also more expensive there than over at the 2by2 website, euro to dollar it costs 12.36 dollars at Gamersgate (without the current discount).

Correct.  In my mind I got the Red Turn and Black Turn prices mixed up.  The whole package is still a good deal at $16.50, but for $6 more I'd rather it go directly to the developers.

1942 scenarios tend to include a substantial number of German mobile units, which obscures the fact that most of the line was held by infantry and that the Germans had few mobile units left elsewhere. In Black Turn, you'll do a lot of fighting with infantry as well. The advance into Estonia and this scenario, the advance to the Tartar Ditch, offer a different experience.

Early September 1941. While the Germans prepare to encircle Southwestern Front further north, 3rd Romanian Army and 11th Army advance across the Dnieper towards the Crimea.

3rd Romanian Army is tasked with screening the flank of 11th Army. 11th Army is to take Perekop and prepare for further operations.

The historical outcome was a fairly quick German victory, as the Soviets only slowly began reinforcing the defences near Perekop due to fears of an amphibious landing. However, the Soviets counterattacked 3rd Romanian Army shortly afterwards, at which point the Germans had to shift most of the forces they intended to invade the Crimea with to the east to help the Romanians.

The scenario directly after this one will be AAR'ed over at Matrix.

Starting positions. The Soviets don't have enough forces to hold a river line after the losses in the previous months, but they're not completely powerless. The bridgehead in the south is surrounded by swamps, making it difficult to break out of it.

Start of turn 2. The Romanians have established a bridgehead across the Dnieper in the north, and the bridgehead in the south is widened. It's important to remove the Rifle division directly across from the Romanian cavalry in order to place a bridge there to allow the follow-up units to cross on turn 2. The Soviets have moved units forwards to block the Germans.

It might look odd that they've withdrawn in the southwest, but the swamps will prevent me from moving forwards quickly.

Start of turn 3. The Soviet defenders in the north have been pushed back, and the Germans in the south are making slow but good progress.

Start of turn 4. Capturing Perekop will require some creative use of the Romanian units, but the defenders of the northern objective are doomed.

Victory on turn 4. The Romanian cavalry was crucial for weakening the Soviet units in the south to allow the defenders of Perekop to be attacked from multiple directions. If you can establish a bridgehead in the north on turn 1, capturing the objective there is not too difficult due to edge in quality you have over the Soviets in the area. It's quite possible to get bogged down in the swamps in the south, and the AI tends to use a slightly different defensive strategy each time, keeping the scenario interesting.

Nothing fancy I'm afraid, just Google image search.
