Yet another "MP Zombie Survival game" in Early Access.
This time by the folks who apparently made the DayZ mod (I wonder if the standalone also comes with a trojan)

Anyone tried this out yet?

Jarhead0331

So, its DayZ by the people who made DayZ? I'm confused.

This is the standalone version by the makers of the mod. This uses a modified version of the Arma3 engine iirc.

They claim to have made this engine from scratch.

@JH, It's a standalone and completely new game by the people who made the mod. That just happens to have the same name and is supposed to offer the same things.
Except it costs 30$ right now (and apparently 60$ later on).

Steelgrave

It's a PVP game, right? My reflexes aren't quick enough to hang with college kids who like to thrill kill a guy for his equipment.

Staggerwing

Also, if it's like the DayZ mod then the Zeds move so fast that they could eat Hal Jordan's braaaaains without breaking a sweat (if they could sweat, that is).

Description say it is set in Chernarus... The Arma 2 map.

Silent Disapproval Robot

It's a heavily modified version of the Chenarus map.  They've added more terrain and they've made it possible to enter all buildings.

Do they have the rights to use a modified Chernarus?

Anyway, anyone tried? How's the server population?

Rocket, the dev, moved to the Czech Republic to work with BIS on the game so it's pretty official.

I guess something like Iron Front.

Oh well forum posts doesn't look promising, maybe after Alpha.

Toonces

I've been following some threads on this game and I think I'm going to take the plunge.

Playing the old mod version was a blast, at least until I couldn't keep up with the patches anymore.  This version sounds like it's cleaned up a lot of the obtuseness of the mod on the ARMA 2 engine.  Some of the features I'm reading about, I'm not sure if they were possible in the mod or if they're new.

Stuff like holding a guy up, stealing his clothes and turning him away naked, handcuffing guys, tearing your shirt to make bandages, stuff like that.

Anyway, I remember when I first played this that it was some of the more tense gaming experiences I've had, so I'm enthusiastic about giving this a shot.

Anyone pick this up yet?

Is it going to be another pure PvP game?

I've never played the original mod and was wondering how varied the gameplay is or if it's just about taking people's stuff.  Admittedly the latter can be fun at times but would probably get old if that ends up being the focus.

Also-- isn't this standalone version still in an Alpha stage?

Nefaro, it does get old and frustrating. The fun part is surviving, finding loot and avoiding zombies. Victimizing others is a bonus. I never worked with people and instead get victimized a lot. Alliances are not coded in the game and you need to interact. problem is that most will just kill you on the spot. Alliances only work if you bring your real life buddy in the game and play at the same time.

I prefer Wasteland maps than DayZ maps in Arma because it is more structured. You join factions (forced cooperation)  and an abundance of vehicles and weapons.

I'll probably pick this up eventually but being in Alpha, there's a lot of risk that you get only unimplemented promises at this point.
