just got promoted from the skrill south. I am playing redditch which had just been promoted to the skrill leagues. took me 3 seasons to get em promoted. hopefully I can stay up in the skrill premier. first playoff game I got a guy sent off early and held on to a 2-2 draw. second game I won 2-0. final playoff game I got a guy sent off again(first 20 minutes) but managed to hang on for a 1-0 win and got the promotion. found a great tactic  from this page. I picked the first one on the list!

there are threads dedicated to the tactics. good idea to read em if you see a formation you might want to try out.

Nice find.  I've been using 2 tactics that I picked up off of steam.  Both have been working well.  My problem was injuries.  I tend to pick up a lot of Free Transfers.  The best ones are usually released due to being injury prone.  You'd think I'd learn by now.

Congrats on your promotion.  I'm hoping to exit the Skrill South this season.  With all the support the Board has given me there's no reason I shouldn't.

well my board supports me but I cant even get the field relayed. its condition is terrible! strangely enough they had to take a loan to add more seating to the stadium which is some kind of skrill premier rule. my payroll did go up a couple of thousand but I don't see them getting out of debt in the near future! if I do well this season I am going to try and get a job with a league 1 or 2 team. ive seen coaches with lower rep than I have getting those jobs so maybe I have a chance!

I'm so demoralized right now.  I was 10 points clear at the top of the Skrill South with 4 games to go.  My team then takes a huge $#&@ and picks up 1 of a possible 12 points.  I then fall to second and lose the automatic promotion bid.  Next, I have to suffer through the agony of the playoffs.  Now, by agony I don't mean that it's boring or monotonous, just the opposite.  It's incredibly tense and nerve wracking, especially when your team just dropped 11 of 12 points.

So the first leg is away and we lose 2-0.  Now I'm angry beyond words.  It took me nearly a month of real time to get to this point.  The second leg is home and we manage to win 3-0 but lose our leading striker, left wing, and veteran DC but at least we get to the final playoff game.

The game is at home where we've been pretty solid all season.  We go down 1-0 before half.  Then we begin trading goals until the score is tied at 2 each.  In the process we lose another striker and a midfielder.  Because of substitutions I'm now entering extra time (overtime) with only 10 men on the field.  With about 5 minutes left in extra time their keeper (goalie) gives me an own goal.  Things are looking good and I have a smile on my face...temporarily.  Not a minute later we commit a foul near our net and they score on a penalty shot.  My keeper didn't even budge and now it's 3-3.  Extra time ends and we go into a shootout.

The first thing I notice is the players who were subbed out are my best penalty shooters.  Things were looking good though because after 5 attempts we had put all 5 past their keeper.  Unfortunately, they put all theirs past mine as well. :(   We ended up going 9 players in before one of my players finally missed.  Their players, on the other hand, would remain perfect as the last one lobbed a shot past my directionally dyslexic keeper and just like that I'll be enjoying the sights, sounds, and smells of the Skrill South...again.

I may need a Combat Mission break or something less stressful.

Nothing personal but I always find it weird listening to American descriptions of the "beautiful game".  Mind you,  I'm all in favour of multi-culturism, so it's great to see our trans-Atlantic cousins embracing the game.  In return, maybe I should have a go at OOTP 14 - I'm sure my AARs would raise an eyebrow or two Stateside.

got about 10-15 games in to my season and was being hammered by injuries. results were poor to say the least. applied for a couple of jobs in league 2 that had opened up and got a job with crewe. professional club with a transfer budget and 10x the weekly budget! sacked most of the staff and brought in new people. roster was in shambles and am rebuilding it for the tactics I want to be able to run. lots of spots filled by players on loan that end up leaving and wont renew their deals.  will be able to turn it around once I get em trained up but hoping I can keep em up for the rest of this season.

Been thinking of doing some Football Manager again since I've been in a sports manager sim mood lately.

I've been doing some FOF7 but I want something less focused on number matrices, better in-game action & with a far better UI.  However, I still have FM2013 and haven't picked up FM2014 yet.  So you guys will let me know if it goes on sale somewhere, yes?  :D

I may just run 2013 for a bit or do some OOTP14 in the meantime.  I can't bring myself to pay the full premium price for FM2014 when I don't watch the sport (rosters don't matter to me) and I've only played occasional stretches, so I can be patient.  However, it sounds like there are some small interface additions that would be nice in the newer version.

Looks like it hit it at the right time.

I just found Steam keys on sale for FM2014 at Amazon for $14.99 .. 70% off.  That beats the hell out of the $49.99 it's going for everywhere else!

I think it's a US only sale.  It ends tomorrow!

Also.. for my own and others' future reference, I'm gonna try the "Default Logos Megapack" from this link:

http://www.fmscout.com/c-files14.html?d=2

It seems to have 1) The most logos by far, and 2) No extra special logo graphical effects such as glossy, beveled, or rounded button shaped logos.

I had been using another in FM2013 but most of them aren't near as complete.  I may also get a skin but many of them are out because I don't like the lowered opacity background behind text.  I may grab the "Carbon" one if it's been redone for 2014 as that seemed to have a very dark background without too much clutter showing through.

I was just about to tell you about the Steam code.  You can't beat that price.  FM Scout is a good place for logos and such.  Also check out the Steam Workshop for extra stuff.  It's super easy to add content to the game through Steam.

I still want to d/l and install the official Dark UI.  But after a long period of jacking with logo mod issues last night, I just wanted to play for awhile.

For some dumb reason, FM2014's user/mod folder which is supposed to be created in your UserName\MyDocs folder wasn't working properly.  Because the game also created another one inside the Public\MyDocs folder and was trying to load the game files from both damn folders!

After digging around on the 'net, I found the answer.  Many other had the same problem and a few had figured it out.  I couldn't just delete the extra one because the program would just make another pair.  So I ended up having to put a copy of the 1.55 GB Logo mod into each folder before it would load all of the logos (there had been some that weren't loading due to the bug).

I've never seen such a thing before.  That's screwed up, man!   Anyway.. I'm all up and running with the hordes of Logos so hopefully I don't run into anymore modding issues.

I only mentioned the details in case anyone else ran into the same issue, here.  Having fun getting settled in with my sim team.  ;)

I've still to get back to this. After a dismal first season in charge of "can't remember", I am at the summer break stage where I need to sort my squad out. This is where I lose a bit of concentration with some games...mostly because I don't know what I'm doing.

But I will get back to it and have a better season. I just need to investigate options and choose hard core players and maybe get a half decent signing to put some goals in.

I'm sticking with FM 2013, basically I still have to learn the game and feels a little daunting right now.  I am not sure really where to begin learning as there are so many players to look at and to build a squad on.  Where does on start?

I would suggest starting with the team you have. So choose a team and let them play for a bit. Try some of your subs. I made very few changes and played with what I had because I wanted to get some stats under their belt.

Once you have a season done, you'll be able to assess your team better.

I always choose a lowly team Scottish First or Second Division. You don't have much money, but you can get free transfers and trials

Ok... can anyone recommend somewhere I can get facepacks and logos without feeling like I'm going to get my machine hacked?   FM Scout and SortItOutSI both ended up sending me to sites where I felt less than comfortable clicking on anything....  One tried to get me to install a download manager that was going to install all sorts of crap....   I get that these files are huge, but jeez....   I couldn't find what I thought I wanted on the Steam Workshop...

If you felt uncomfortable with those sites you can try this: http://www.fm-base.co.uk/forum/forum.php

I've downloaded stuff from all of those sites and never had a problem.  From now on though I'm sticking with Steam Workshop stuff.  It's just so much easier.
