I skipped FM 13 but the jump between 12 and 14 is fantastic.

From the screenshots, the interface in '14 looks pretty much like '13.  So they must've done the UI upgrade last year and only tweaked it this year.

I was tempted to pick up '14 on the sale yesterday, but since I picked up FOF7 recently (amongst others) I'll probably just wait until a bigger sale before the '15 version comes out later this year and use '13 if I get the itch.

I think every other year is a good buying strategy for this franchise.  I got a solid 2 years of enjoyment out of FM12 and I don't see me getting any less out of FM14.

What kind of makes me laugh about this game is that it's almost totally devoid of any character. The series always has been. NO background music or noise, like clicking cameras, or real voice overs for questions or chattering in press conferences and the like - and yet it's so damned addictive!

I usually have The Who, Pink Floyd, The Stones, or some other British Invasion music going in the background.  I'm kind of glad they don't use any.  You do get crowd noise during games at least.

I must've played about 8 hours today. After taking the dog for a walk at 6 this morning and making the wife breakfast in bed, I shut myself in my hole and played it straight.

I took a break to help my daughter tidy her room (that took two hours!)...but pretty much solidly played FM.

I also watched Serpico, Carlitos Way and The Eagle Has Landed whilst playing

My plan for tomorrow is very similar.  I plan on playing while watching the NFL playoffs.  We're supposed to get a blizzard tomorrow as well so shoveling should force some breaks on me.

I just bought Football Manager 2014, albeit for the iPad. Still had iTunes credit and already have more than I want on my ipad. No steam gift cards this year.

Oh well. Hope this version is decent.

I'm really hooked on this game at the moment, though as Elgin City in the Scottish 2nd Division I'm really struggling.

Thanks, KyzBP. Didn't you post some links in your AAR also? I'll go check. I'll look at this forum too. I'll try to find the manual online and give it a read-through as well because I'm only vaguely familiar with positions from my own one year of playing soccer - back in 5th grade. I remember five forwards, two halfbacks, and three fullbacks - I was a fullback and played forward once. I'm making the connections but some of the basics elude me and I don't want to miss anything.

Did not buy this years rendition of Football Manager. Usually its a bi-yearly buy for me. Takes two years to usually see an improvement in the series.

Just won all 5 trophies for Sheffield United in last years rendition.( League Cup, FA Cup, Champions League, Premier League, Charity Shield).          Buying a midfield wonderkid from Brazil was what put my team over the top. All my investment in buying young talent finally payed off. Should be interesting to see if I can hold on to all my young talent. They constantly want pay raises and my board has no intention of increasing stadium size to increase revenue. Even with the Champions league money I am barely making ends meet. Im pretty sure if I sold my Brazilian midfield superstar, I could get around $80,000,000.

I have a striker from Ghana on my lowly Skrill team that scored all three goals in our first game (that was a draw, 3-3). I imagine he's going to want to get paid if he keeps that up.

1 Striker  Total poacher with good finishing

1 Central Attacking midfielder with good finishing and pace

3 central midfielders with the middle player being a defensive style midfielder. Two others are creative/playmakers.

3 central defenders   Big strong dudes with high strength/ jumping/ positioning

2 fullbacks with good stamina/ crossing / and pace. Brazilians make the best  They are your wingers on the attack and outside defenders on defense.

This is pretty close to what I am taking about except Doubai would be more online with the other two central midfielders.
