Oops  :-[, just found a previous Warlock 2 thread (http://grogheads.com/forums/index.php?topic=7816).  One of the mods could please merge the threads?  Thx...

The game is live on Steam, but not finished (although Paradox isn't admitting to that).  You know that "Campaigns" menu that's been empty pending release?  It's still empty.  I had to go to the official Paradox board to learn that now they are claiming that they never intended to make a campaign, that menu is for the convenience of modders.

Pfui.

After a play through in terms of the fantasy game I prefer the others over Warlock 2 and Civ V by a pretty good margin.  I do like the game for a change of pace as they have introduced some new concepts that I really like and new units but the glaring problem is the diplomacy it is wacked and the AI appears to be feeble....  I could easily roll over the other mages and there was no real challenge to the game.  I hope that maybe if the AI gets an upgrade and possibly diplomacy flushed out I will return to the game as overall it is pretty fun.

This is disappointing, because underwhelming AI play was cited on the forums as the single area that needed the most improvements, and the devs set expectations high on this one.  It seems to me like a very common challenge for game development efforts (and software development projects in general, especially from smaller operations) that so much work goes into building cool new functionality that the integration, quality testing, and play-balancing aren't sufficiently addressed.

Software development is hard.  That's why it's all the more important to not bite off more than you can chew in terms of building new logic and the coding to implement that logic, and make sure that the end product you get out the door works on all fronts, and not just on implementing the cool new functionality that developers enjoy building and the product "owner" is excited to call their own.

I've been around a lot of IT projects in my career, and the ones that fail typically fail due to poor project management and an inability to set proper boundaries on scope.  More often than not, it's the senior decision-makers on the project who bear the responsibility for those bad decisions around scope, although they too often blame it on lower-level staff not being able to execute.

For the next 4 hours and 20 minutes, you can get Warlock II from Steam for half price ($14.99).
Regardless of how good a PC game may be it will always have its detractors and no matter how bad a PC game may be it will always have its fans.

The endless spate of sales has spoiled me. Even at half price my knee-jerk reaction was this; I'll just wait another 6 months for the holiday sales and get for $4.99.

Aww.. Fork Beans.  I missed it.

Oh well, it'll be there again sometime.

Anyone noticed that the game is barely out of Early Access and already today Paradox released 4 different DLCs for it (3 of them with very little content and priced at 5$ each,
and another with some content and priced at 15$)? :P

I thought it was out of Early Access months ago.  ???

^It is out of EA, but it didn't get out of it so long ago.
Paradox just loves spewing out countless DLCs. And when they finally can't bother to simply add more mustaches to existing portraits and sell these as new DLCs,
they make a sequel devoid of all game's previous features.

It's like they base their M.O on The Sims. :P

Yet people keep buying The Sims in droves.   ???

Paradox has gotten so carried away with DLC for its games that I have decided not to purchase any DLC at full price and will usually wait instead for a compilation pack containing all of a game's current DLC at a fraction of the original cost (if I buy any DLC at all).

Sorry there folks, there's an additional 5$ crappy DLC. :P
(All in all 4 5$ and 1 15$ DLCs released together)

It'll be on sale for $2 apiece in a few months.  If you even feel the need to add more.

I've not really been playing much 1 OR 2 lately but I certainly like the improved interface stuff in the sequel.
