Not sure how many folks are familiar with this series, but they are coming out with their new release this week.  Its an interesting game, hard to describe.  If you haven't tried it before, I would recommend giving the demo a try (if they have one with this version).  It will cost only $20.  Not as pretty and polished as other games, but still had some fun playing the prior versions.  You can start your career from anytime between 1980 and 2013.

I was badly disappointed with OOTP's hockey release this year, maybe this one can give me some fun until they straighten things out.

Here is a link to their forums, doesn't appear to be any product page yet.

Here are links to a review/pictures of the older version to give you an idea.

I briefly looked into it a year or two ago but opinions seemed to be mixed.  I was also a bit perplexed by the look of the thing.

How reasonable were the game outcomes, player stat progression, and AI decisions?  Those are probably the most important questions I would have regarding such GM games.

I thought the mechanics and stats were pretty good...if I remember correctly, more of the goofiness was in the ui and graphics.....not horrible, just different.   I likely will give it a chance.

Arctic Blast

Definitely interested. I held back from buying the OOTP hockey game after reading what you guys had to say about it. Maybe this will scratch the itch.

Yeah, the interface and some of the graphics seemed a bit weird.  I got the impression that there may be a nice sim underneath those but they desperately needed some improvements in those departments.

Have they announced any new game art & such for this one?

The product page is supposed to go live today with more info....I get the impression it won't be drastically different (especially in visuals) from the previous versions...I do believe they have included now a fantasy draft and player editor though.  I think this likely will be mostly a maintenance type release.  It seems like this person had to buy out the previous distributor to get the rights back to the game so I am thinking might be light in new stuff.  They will be releasing DLC in March if you want to play in the international leagues.

Nefaro

Didn't someone create some graphics mods for the previous version?

I didn't even think they had a distributor for the last one.  It looked so indie - like a one man job.

I believe there was logos/photo packs, that was about it....that's not the part of the game that I think is funky, just feels like an old windows 95 application:)  But I could be misremembering too:)

Not sure about the distributor, but this seems like a 1 person shop, so I would assume any issues regardless of size would impact them.

You mentioned something about the creators having to buy back the rights from the distributor for the previous game in your earlier post.  Is that just rumor, then?

I agree, the general art look of the thing is pretty rough.  I also recall the demo having some odd behaviors with some windows, like they would be pretty tiny and I had to scroll about in a fiddly way.

Not a rumor (although maybe I am using the wrong wording)....came from an email they sent out....here is that email.

Hi everyone,

I am very happy to announce that I bought Logique Eclectic back. Following my departure in november 2012, I worked on the background on personal projects. I am now back full time  to insure support and answer your questions. However, many things have changed. Some will please you, some won't, but our main objective is to get back to this good old active community. Let's proceed step by step.

1. Previous games:
As the old Logique Eclectic distributor closed without warning in september 2013, it is now impossible to buy or reactivate our old titles. This event forces us to abandon our previous titles. It is a sad situation, but we will try to do our best to overcome the situation, by offering you low price games over the course of the year.

2. GM Hockey Legacy 13-14:
Our first decision is to offer the 13-14 converted GM Hockey Legacy game, on January the 26th, 2014. The game will cost 20$. Still because the old distributor closed down, it won't be a free update, but a complete independant game. I have been working since last October on this update. Many bugs have been corrected, some missing content have been added and some free updates, including Fantasy Draft and the possibility to create a player with the editor will follow.

3. GM Hockey Legacy  addons:
Following the 13-14 GM Hockey Legacy launch, I will start to work on addons that will allow you to be the general manager of diffirent international teams. The first two leagues we will cover are the DEL and the EBEL (Aust). Those addons will cost 15$. They should be available for download at the beginning of March.

4. New website address:
The new website address will be www.logique-eclectic.com. www.lesims.net will redirect you to this website for a while. Update your bookmark.

5. New support email address:
The new email address to reach me for support is:
jfcabana@logique-eclectic.com.

6. Special thanks:
This rebirth of Logique Eclectic is mainly due to Christian Schwenk, an American investor borned in Germany, who just love hockey. He is determined to provide us with all the funds needed to help us reach all our objectives for the year. I also want to thank everyone who has been there for me during the course of the last (difficult) year, by buying share or simply being there for morale support: Anne Derome, Étienne-Craig Savard, Marc-André Lamontagne, Jonathan Deraiche, Dany Houde, David Saindon, Mathieu Lemieux, Alain Juneau, Marc Ramsey, Alex Denicourt, Jonathan Sénécal, Julien Ostiguy, Sébastien Roy, Éric Turbide, Jasmin Leroux, Tim Warchocki, Frédéric Payette, Antoine Beaulieu-Michel, David Létourneau, Émile Gaudreau, Olivier Langevin (sorry for the ones I forgot).

It is the beginning of a new era for Logique Eclectic. We hope we will be able to prove you in 2014 that we are still the best in the hockey simulator department.

Developper, Logique Eclectic

I dunno.  I also recall seeing a good bit of complaining a year or more ago, last time I checked.  Some players were pissed that the dev(s) had disappeared and patch plans had abruptly went silent along with it at that point.

I didn't realize that they also had net activation DRM that stopped activating the owner's games late this last year.  :o  Shocking.  I wonder if some of them will return and buy it again for twenty bucks after such a fiasco.  Think I'll wait it out awhile and see how things go.  ???

Grim.Reaper

Yep, I actually posted a message on their board asking them what they plan to do differently this time to ensure we get support and don't lose the use of our games.  We'll see what they say.

Grim.Reaper

I did end up downloading the demo and have messed with it a little bit.  Not sure what to make of it.  I still see myself fighting the user interface and the game does not come with any kind of manual/help to help the user understand all the features.  The official forums are dead with no activity, so really no easy way to really grasp everything.  However, even with that said, it does seem a decent game may be lurking under the covers.  Game results so far have been realistic, can't tell you about season stats since haven't finished a season.  There doesn't appear to be a sim season feature in order to see how full stats turn out.

For $20, might be worth it, just not sure yet...just concerned I will become frustrated with the UI, plus still concerned with long term support of this game.  If the activity in the forums are indication, this game does not appear to have much followers (at least in the English forums), but that could also have to do with not many people knowing about the game and their lack of marketing.  In the end, I think the UI and the fact eventually FHM will get better, likely will doom this game.

Nefaro

Let me know how it plays out.  I'm still a bit interested albeit hesitant.

I think you're right about people not knowing it's been re-released (essentially).  I'm sure the ones who bought the previous version and got screwed out of actually owning that probably aren't in a hurry to buy a slightly updated version again.  That whole fiasco probably scared many of their past customers away (and many of those had already been complaining before that even happened).  :o

As it is, I've been on a flight simming rampage and I still have plenty FOF7 and Football Manager, which have neither received a lot of play yet.

Grim.Reaper

I will likely pass on this game...without a manual or active community, really have no idea the impacts of certain features in the game.  Can't enjoy something that I can't understand:)

Tried asking questions in the forum and got the impression the developers weren't appreciative of them:)
