Thanks, geek.  Another part of my problem is, I don't have enough time in the game yet.  Literally.  It starts in 1444 and I have gotten into the 1460's.  So, there's that.  I guess I am like every one else I know, I want to be good at something and understand it fully without having put in the time and experience.  Like I said earlier, repeated play will be my teacher.

I'll be playing the Girlfriend Spearheads Modifying Front Porch Building Project 2014 game.

I've read the Wiki, and I feel an idiot for not understanding what they are writing.  In English even!  As a matter of fact, I've read the Wiki back to front and refer to it when I have a question of what I am doing.  It'll just take repeated play by me in order for some of that to sink in.

You are not alone. I've read lots of stuff on the trade system and still don't understand it.... I know how to put ships on trade protection, move merchants to certain trade nodes... but have no clue on how to get feedback if my actions are having any effect.... that's what I find most frustrating.

I'll be playing some more EU4 before long.  I will post details on how I get feedback on how well my trade routes are working, once my campaign matures.  It may be a bit, still, since I recently picked up FM2014 and Qvadriga, but I've been getting the itch to get the latest EU4 expansion and play again.

It's been awhile, but I recall that when a trade node is selected you can get an idea of how much you are making there through that trade node's interface.  I always tried to keep enough trade power via ships, buildings, etc in nearby trade nodes that have an overall high monetary value to get at or very near the top of the trade power list.

Unlike EU3, which was just an annoying Whack-A-Mole mechanic you had to constantly babysit, the trade system in EU4 is more interesting and you only need to check it here & there after you've built up supremacy in a node.  The AI tends to give up and go to easier pastures when you've loaded up a juicy one with your trade strength.  Frigates ftw!

After you expand and get some good strength into decent trade nodes, you can rake in a lot of ducats.

The Law of Being Careful of What You Ask For Because You Might Just Get It compels me to address the thread title.

if you build it, friday will indeed come. Unfortunately, someone used rock and roll to build san francisco, and the resulting documentary was turned into a musical, and basically the Worst Sound Ever*.

So, grogheads, please build it. Because Friday will come, and we will play it. Knee deep in the hoopla.

Completely understandable. It's a treasure trove of moving words and images. Marconi plays the mambo, indeed!

All right boys and girls.  Today much to my delight, and after waiting for 2 weeks, my import arrived in the mail.  Can't wait to figure out how to play this beast.  It's gonna be real good!   8)

Manual:  I'm gonna have to translate it obviously.  I've got two Japanese/English dictionaries as well as some iPad apps that can translate so it shouldn't be too bad.

Regardless of how good a PC game may be it will always have its detractors and no matter how bad a PC game may be it will always have its fans.

^Understood.  I do plan on posting more details in the appropriate forum as soon as I get some time in on this game.  The reason for the mention here however is due to my post in this thread located earlier in this thread:

I'm patiently awaiting the arrival of an import I got a few weeks ago for PS4.  In the meantime I'll be playing Euro Truck Simulator 2 and some Dominions 4.
