Warlock 2: beta access with preorder

I remain frustrated with my constant fence-sitting regarding Warlock.  It looks good, and I badly, badly want to like it, but I'm always turned off by the lack of diplomacy.  :-\  Argh. 

At this very moment in time, I still run XP, so, there will be no screaming like anything.  Gnashing of teeth maybe, but no screaming.

Aren't you upgrading to Win7 soon anyway?  (Heck, you can even do what I did and get your hard drive split between the two OS's.)

i think its because there isnt really supposed to be any - youre battling any other number of powers to be top dog, and only you, there is no real opportunity to hold hands with someone while you do that

It is one of the best turn based strategy games I have ever played. There are significant benefits for players who play it like a 4x. Many different races and play styles - many different terrain/resource features to alter your build/expansion strategy and many different ways to win....  zerg rush strategies will get you in trouble against certain other races, quality over quantity building will imperil you quickly if you research the wrong spells, etc., etc..

I find it much much better than Fallen Enchantress - which never grabbed me for whatever esoteric reasons

I have all the latest FE stuff, but never played more than about 30 minutes into a campaign.  There is just something about the art style that makes it feel too lifeless and generic.   :-[   There are some nice features and the mechanics may come together well, but it just feels a bit too sterile for some reason.

I realize that.  I'm not faulting the lack of diplomacy, or the game's concept.  I'm saying that given the game's concept, I'm not sure it's for me. 

It could be that for me, Warlock is to fantasy 4x what Sword of the Stars is to space 4x:  Excellent games, just not ones that I can really get into myself (much as I'd like to).

The art style isn't my favorite either, but neither do I hate it...and I immensely enjoy FE:LH in any case.  I guess this is an instance where for me, gameplay (happily) trumps visuals.
