50 mil....5 mil....1 mi mil....I was making so little money (losing money on occasion) that making anything near any of those values was a pipe dream for me.

As I wasn't particularly successful at trading and so it was going to be a very, very long haul to get even just the next ship then I needed something else going on. The sheer effort required to earn money to get the next piddly ship just does not have the draw at present.

I'm waiting patiently.  :(

Well, if you need a wingman, you have my Vulture!

Also, here's my rare trade route I ran for about 20 million of my current worth.  It's best in a ship with 112t of cargo and 17ly jump range, but can be run with less.

The notations of "x" to.. means that there are commodities that I filled my hold with that sold at a profit at the destination port, and I brought them with me to maximize my earnings.

I don't list the rare goods in this list, it was just for my notes.  At each station buy the light yellow highlighted rare good and dump them at Leesti and HIP 10175

Dump Leesti Resonating Separators to..
Dump Wintii Gallite to..
Shinrarta Dezhra performance enhancers to..
Cd-75 661 - Kirk Dock tobacco to..
Baltah'Sine (Baltha'Sine Station) Tea to..
Zaonce - Ridley Scott clothing to ..

Leesti - George Lucas Auto Fabricators to..
Uszaa - Guest Installation  clothing to..
Orrere - Sharon Lee Free Market (Anarchy - they buy everything ) tobbaco to..
Lave - Lave Station

Thats the "Lavecluster"... fill your holds. You get around 70 tonns. Then head out to this destination:

1. HIP 10175 13t - Stefanyshyn-Piper Station (sell all stuff here its 242 Ly from Lave, so you get max Profit ! ) tea to..
2. Momus Reach 7t - Tartarus Point Consumer Technology to..
3. Witchhaul 9t - Hornby Terminal Tea to..
4. Fujin 10t - Futen Spaceport Animal Meat/Tobacco/Beer/Wine/Grain to..
5. 39 Tauri 17t - Spaceport "Porta"
6. Tarach Tor 8t - Tranquillity Consumer Technology to..
7. Tanmark 8onion  9 tea- Cassie-L-Peia Imperial Slaves to..
8. Utagaroar 15t - Fort Klarix
9. Chi Eridani 18t - Steve Masters Station Tea to..
10. George Pantazis - Zakam Platform Biowaste to..
11. Zeessze - Nicolier Hanger tea to..
12. Altair - Solo Orbiter

Optional Epsilon Indi - Mansfield Orbiter
Optional Xihe - Zhen Dock

Thanks for that.
^ this sounded a little bit "thanks for that" like it wasn't appreciated...all advice is greatly appreciated - simply from the fact the someone bothers to take the time to try and help is proof enough of the good intent.

Just getting the money for a 112t trader was the bane of my life.

It was definitely down to me...but I often found myself jumping out of range. So I might decide I was going somewhere ....with absolutely no prior knowledge of what I was carrying making a profit anywhere.

So I'd load my 4t up and head off. I would then find myself in some dead end and a few times I found myself in that dead end with no fuel.

Now - when you are only dealing with 4t, that doesn't seem like a lot to lose - but when you only have a few thousand (and I mean less than 30k credits) - these little mistakes are extremely costly.

That became frustrating for me. Even more so when I read people were making a fair amount of cash and relaying that.

Like you, they were trying to help by giving info on what they were doing - but that is only actually even remotely helpful if I was in the same region.....UCG's rare's trading route and yours has absolutely ZERO ability to help me in my arse end of the universe.

That isn't meant to sound as ungrateful as it does...but with a 4t ship and being in a completely different part of the galaxy (that might have more dead ends) - it really does have no help value at all.

I am holding my hands up here though...it's my fault...but it made the game infuriating enough not to go back at the moment. On top of that, there's the severe lack of content...so the only reason I would be putting myself through all that pain and anguish and mahoosive frustration was to upgrade to a bigger ship. That was actually enticement enough when I first got the game...but once I started losing money hand over fist - that became the longest journey know to man.

It was incredibly frustrating...but it was my lack of understanding and will be again - part of the reason I haven't gone back to it...but only part

JD, you should film your in game adventures and record the Bennie Hill theme song in the background. It would be hilarious.

Why would you just "set off" into deep space without knowing where you were going or how you are going to get there? Don't you use the navigation tools? It really takes all the guess work out of travel. You know how far the next star is and how you are going to get there. Also, why no fuel scoop? With a scope you can travel indefinitely through the void. Come on man!  :crazy2:

I know.  :D

I was just doing all sorts of things in all the wrong order.

I can't seem to find that galaxy map as handy as everyone else does. And I end up jumping one system too many and running out of fuel. As for the fuel scoop...I can't remember. I think I do have one now but I didn't because (I think) it used a slot and you got sod all slots in the Sidey. I had invested in a mining laser and the converter (whatever that was called).

I just didn't "get it". It totally foxed me and that galaxy map was just a big mess through these eyes.

I think you said it before...I just like swimming upstream  :2funny:

I think the cheap vulture was to help out the combat group who were complaining they couldn't make the same money as traders

I understand completely.  There's a bit of an early hump to get over, and I can totally see how you can get stuck if things go poorly in the early goings.

One of the first things I did after playing around in the Freagle was to sell it and trade out to a Hauler.  That let me limp my way slowly towards Lave with little 9 ly jumps.  Being close to the core systems really changed the dynamic of progression.  There's a lot more opportunity there.

At least fuel costs are pretty much nonexistent now.  If you did get the itch to try things out, you could use the new 1000ly route planner and start a slow plod towards civilization.  The galaxy map is pretty much just point, click and follow the dots now.

Really hope existing owners wil get keys.  Mike Brookes sounds awfully cagey in his non-committal response. Suppose if there's a big enough s**t storm over it, they'll cave in.  And given that it's Elite, giant s**t storm from the community sounds about par for the course...

Well - I got another newsletter from Elite:Dangerous folks and it kind of struck me that I had nothing but absolute praise for this game when I bought it in BETA. It was the single most immersive experience I had ever had - and it made me sad when I received the newsletter that I hadn't actually looked at the game in must be a couple of months now.

At release, there wasn't a day when I wasn't firing this up and doing some ridiculously pointless mission. It didn't matter then and they weren't pointless. But - they kind of became pointless and all of a sudden all that immersion just wasn't enough.

I'm going to make an effort to fire it up this weekend and just see if there's something else there. See how it's came along. I'm not sure much at all given I had to go 4 pages back to find this thread.

Even UCG has been quiet and he was seemingly having the most fun with it. I know he fires it up again to do a high net worth trade here and there...but it's eerily quiet here...3 weeks passed since the last post and there's been 2 or 3 newsletters since then.

Hopefully I'll have some time this weekend to see if it bites me again.

Was there any word on the Steam keys for people who bought direct?

I'm very excited about the new mining updates, the drones and the new minerals and how they've made the most abundant areas risky, all very cool

The major reason for my absence has been work, I know once I get in I'll be in there all day and I haven't had that kind of opportunity recently

What I have learnt is that when a game this big I developing you need only be away for a few weeks and you've lost track of everything, I used to know what did what and why, where to go and do things but now, I may as well have just bought it for all I know

JD there is nothing significantly different in Elite at the moment. Once Powerplay hits then we will see some (much needed IMO) additions to the 'living galaxy' experience.
Until it hits I have the game on hold.

It does look promising, though! If they continue to add identity and 'soul' to the game's factions and world it might still turn out to be the space sim of my dreams. The only thing I hope for is that these additions are kept added in a timely manner.

I stopped played Elite: Dangerous by mid January or so.  There were too many bugs, and the game was clearly bare-bones.   But when I received the most recent newsletter announcing Power Play, my ears perked up (I love the idea of introducing Eve-like politics to the game).   So I booted the game up to see what had changed in the intervening months.  Turns out not much.  There are now Wings, but I don't play MP. There have also been many quality of life bugs squished, too - that is always nice.  But, overall, nothing that substantial has changed.  Nonetheless, I have found myself enjoying the experience more than at release.  I think the "way forward" for Elite is clearer to me now that the foundation has settled and the first meaty addition is on the horizon.

Anyhoo, the last few days I have managed to play enough to have sufficient credits to buy an Adder:

I have since been having fun tripping through the galaxy trading.   :)

Elite: Dangerous still needs a lot more content and love, but the accretion disk is slowly forming into a planetoid.   ;)

Same for me. The only thing that remains to be seen is how quickly Powerplay will deliver on all the features, because in their newsletter they mentioned that Powerplay is the first phase in developing the backstory of the inhabitants of civilised space.
So does this mean that the first release of Powerplay will have *some* features and it will be deployed in several phases, or is Powerplay going to contain *all* features they list in the newsletter out of the box and they have even bigger plans for developing this 'living galaxy'?

Anyway, I am jumping back in too. Somewhere in May they expect to push out Powerplay. If all this patch does is give me a reason to do missions I am completely back into Elite for sure.
