Horizons is live today, so it crash land our ships into planets and moons!

For those that like me, skipped out on the Beta so the experience could be fresh, this nice gent on Youtube put together a pretty good tutorial on how to get your ship on the ground in one piece

Time for me to go and put my Python on the shelf and get to practicing landing in a Sidewinder.

I dunno, landing then running and gunning sounds like a cheesy gimmick.
Can you do air combat in the atmosphere.

Its much more than a "cheesy gimmick". Its down right revolutionary. Nothing like it on this epic a scale has ever existed.

Yeah, it's actually pretty amazing, or at least feels so after my first few minutes trying it.

And yes, you can engage targets from the air.

Is this an expansion or a separate game?

Lol...definitely NOT a cheesy gimmick. Exploring is amazing. Only landed once on a moon so can't speak to the atmosphere. Just so much more immersive. This game is HUGE so they don't NEED gimmicks. It just adds to an already unbelievably real universe

Edit: nothing gimmicky here...just a s$&@ ton of bad-a$$ery!

Ok, so here is a video of a guy touring the solar system and landing. No combat but you can see the atmosphere mechanic at work at the 4:00 mark and on. He lands on Ganymede and explores. Thin atmosphere loaded with dust

Hmmm. It only appears on Steam as a separate game. I must be missing something here.

mikeck

Hmmm. Not sure then. I bought mine from the Frontier site. Because I was an alpha backer, I get everything for free so it just updated. It is part of Elite Dangerous and not a new game

Ah, okay. That may be the reason why. Unfortunately there's no way I would buy the whole game again just for the expansion. An odd choice for the developer, assuming it was their decision.

Had this discussion before. It's a separate game but it merges into the existing universe.
PanzersEast: Have to think to myself.... will I play the first one by the Winter Sale?  Probably not, then I should remove Dragonfall
PanzersEast: but that is thinking too logically.... and Steam Sales are about ignoring Logic

I wasn't involved in that discussion. But thanks for the clarification.

Maybe I misunderstand you, but you shouldn't have to buy the game again. It's just a (sort of quasi) expansion. Did you purchase Elite Dangerous from Steam or Frontier?
