Board Warping

Any special actions you guys take to fix and prevent this?

I have a few games, both old and new, with game boards that tend to warp some.  Started putting those plastic silica containers (that come in some tablet bottles) in the boxes of some, to keep the moisture down, but I'm not sure how well that will work.

My big concern is getting them flat again without accidentally creasing the board or paper map.  Considered putting them upside down on a flat surface with heavy books on top but not sure if that will work without leaving that way for a long long time.

Suggestions?

I've taken to putting plexi-glass on even my mounted boards. 3mm or 1/8" thick seems to flatten most of my warped boards.

Haven't tried the silica gel but that sounds like a good idea. Might take a while though depending on how humid your space is.

Heavy books take a really long time... many months I've found to have any effect.

Where do you store your games? I found that after I moved my man cave to the basement some of my previously warped boards have returned to their original shape. Not all but some have.

I keep mine downstairs too.  That's where the game room is.  It's not underground on the back side (house is on a hill) but the temperature still stays more even than upstairs.  There just seems to be a few specific games where it is noticeable enough to be annoying.

I'd rather avoid using the  plexiglass on top of boards but it could be a last resort I suppose.  The whole idea of having mounted boards is to avoid such things, IMO.

I agree that mounted boards should not need plexi but.... it's the only thing I found that flattens enough to play on.
Plus it keeps dice dings out of the boards....

I got a sizable wood & felt dice tray to take care of the dice situation.  ;)

It wasn't a big investment and I've had quite a bit of usefulness out of it.

Looks like this, about 11 or 12 inch size IIRC:

If table space becomes an issue, I put it on a TV Tray Stand in which it fits perfectly.  But space isn't usually a problem with room for two tables.

I've got an old cigar box I lined with felt to use for a dice tray, though I also picked up a copy of shut the box for the same thing, those can often be found very cheap, at least in the uk.

Looks like this but larger:

Not had much board warping though. Someone I know suggested putting board in cloth and using an iron but I think he may be crazy.

I like the cigar box idea. I really don't think the map ironing is advisable. Even if it works, and She-Who-Must-Be-Obeyed spotted you, next thing you know you'd be up to your ears in ironing shirts and stuff......no ta.
