The coming battle (next 30 years) will have ideologies as banners, but the bottom line will be more about the use and abuse of power to access natural resources .

I would not say that. The US is without question the big player for the western world. All western countries have the ability to switch economic output to war materials of a level of sophistication that makes WWII look like a rusted out yugo. God help any nation that pushes NATO to that point. Russia will probably mug all it's Asian neighbors before it feels strong enough to take on the champ with it's team.

The original articles linked ignored the money people and the natural resources aspects. China with its billion people has been securing natural resources in Africa like a sailor spends money in a whore house .
With Russia/Eastern Europe it's about the billionaire Czars and the mob
