We're off................
This is me, Sardinia-Piedmont.
Piedmont's end goal is the unification of Italy, something which it is unlikely to achieve by warring against Austria (although if Austria is laid low by another foe, there is an opportunity). Although France (Tuna) has territorial claims against Piedmont, these historically were conceded in exchange for support in achieving the much greater prize of Italian unification, and there are events that can take you down this path. Building good relations with France (Tuna) should be a cornerstone of Piedmont's strategy.
Like Prussia, Sardinia-Piedmont must focus literally on nation-building at home before it receives the full range of options for colonial expansion abroad. It is a small Kingdom and reliant on imports, so developing and extending its natural resources and cultivating sources of supply should be a priority (which may include early foreign investments).

Closer up, to my immediate east are some small Tuscan states - Parma (blue) and Firenze (pink) with the Papal States beyond them and the Kingdom of Naples in purple at the end, big ass scary Austria (boooooo) in the North East, Tuna to the west as France (yayyyyy), and way out east is SDR as Russia (dunno yet!).............

Each province gives you a brief description of its development and how its population is made up, how it trades and what areas it trades in (more on that later). There is also a representation of the resources it produces - here, wine, cattle, timber, corn and iron, and a railway construction is already underway toward Austria

My organic industry and commerce screen, read down each column to see the turns starting total and the end result after commerce, production and useage is accounted for, so on aggregate i make 37 timber a turn, i start with 400 at the top and 437 is the final number at the bottom.............

As im new and learning all this, i just want to conduct a harmless experiment and see how it effects my balance sheet - i buy 10 coal, thats all im doing this turn and ill see what happens.
Turn is sent to SDR
I hope you guys are able to get/keep this going. It would be fun to follow, and might give me some small insight on how to play my own copy of the game (purchased long ago through GamersGate). Good luck!
Pravoslaviye, Samoderzhaviye, Narodnost!Hope you don't mind me putting my stuff here as well, UCGeek.

Russia's massive and I think I'm going to have my hands full trying to keep all my plates spinning but it should be an interesting challenge.
A quick look through the provinces shows me that Russia's got little to fear from external military forces but she's a bit of mess internally.
She's backwards as hell...
(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv320%2Fbogaty%2FPONPBEM7_zpsae77d682.jpg%7Eoriginal&hash=8576e248c6006f7be7a6d66b8370c251a116535b)
And while she has massive amounts of manpower and tonnes of natural resources, she lacks the infrastructure to take advantage of either. There are a few rail-lines being built between Moscow and Kiev and Moscow and St. Petersberg at the start of the game, but they're not going to be done for another year. As for the rest, it's mud tracks even around Moscow.
(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv320%2Fbogaty%2FPONPBEM6_zps5e0496c8.jpg%7Eoriginal&hash=1a637d4cc230218fc5397c3e7d6e6f481faab788)
We have some manufacturing already but the poor internal transport system and the lack of advanced machinery prevent the Russian economy from doing much other than sputtering along.
Here are all my factories that require machined tools to operate.
(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv320%2Fbogaty%2FPONPBEM4_zps0cb03f23.jpg%7Eoriginal&hash=e5358b16cd7fe4fa7c3d00bb0c850c4a8b278aa4)
But Russia lacks the capacity to produce her own so we have to import them from foreign powers. Here Russia runs into more problems. Firstly, her only reliable warm water ports are in the Black Sea and that means those damned Ottoman footstools can choke us off at the Dardanelles or the Bosporus whenever they choose.
(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv320%2Fbogaty%2FPONPBEM10_zps9cb468d1.jpg%7Eoriginal&hash=a71415037ebdb5018c446c3e812fe1a26452e7a3)
Secondly, we don't have that many trade fleets out there. If I want access to the UK, I need to get a fleet into the North Sea.
(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv320%2Fbogaty%2FPONPBEM3_zps39728b22.jpg%7Eoriginal&hash=5b911f11da2c9a6ae45020d751d415ff1e0c4c3e)
I do have a trade fleet in the Baltic but the various German states just aren't producing reliably enough for me to expect to meet my needs.
(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv320%2Fbogaty%2FPONPBEM9_zps24fb57ce.jpg%7Eoriginal&hash=0b748ff3372fb01bb5488c6e5684eb2b69f90e20)
The other problem Russia faces is internal dissent. There are a lot of unhappy people in the satellite states. The Poles, the Finns, the Ukranians, the Ruthenians, and all those angry horse riders east of the Urals are all pissed off to one degree or another.
(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv320%2Fbogaty%2FPONPBEM5_zpsb70d4961.jpg%7Eoriginal&hash=123ee33e89495634eaff13b6d298f4ca61c10f53)
There's a handy-dandy pop census screen that will give you a breakdown of who's pissed off, why, and what they want but the latest hotfix buggered it up for some players (me included) so it looks like this now. Not exactly useful.
(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv320%2Fbogaty%2FPONPBEM8_zps49e3bea4.jpg%7Eoriginal&hash=0d1cc3c3193c1c693a5272bed6b888a8014c863e)
So, short term goals are:
- Improve transport infrastructure.
- Expand trade fleets
- Expand resource gathering operations
- Garrison restive areas
- Gain access to the Mediterranean.
wow, errrrr thats a lot of land there SDR!
i see what you mean about the census screen now (mines ok :P)
It seems the default starting point in trade for Sardinia-Piedmont is all over the place, im importing goods that im also exporting and money is slowly, not badly, but slowly leaking out
I reset all commercial trade to 0, cancelling all trade agreements and international commerce and will treadwater for a day or two and see what we actually need to operate
(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimagizer.imageshack.us%2Fv2%2F1600x1200q90%2F673%2FsbrI1k.jpg&hash=c6ec49e17ad86e14531fec8219d101c33130d712) (https://imageshack.com/i/ipsbrI1kj)
Heres the commercial goods window showing a true reflection of our needs when all trade is cancelled - all the green graphs indicate a surplus and all the red ones indicate goods we need to bring in. The factories and projects currently running need iron, coal and steel - we'll concentrate on these and see what happens.

Down in Genoa is a ship factory pulling in all kinds of resources and outputting not very much - ive turned the factory off for now, im not ready to start building a navy yet
(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimagizer.imageshack.us%2Fv2%2F1600x1200q90%2F537%2F37TMUl.jpg&hash=4e50916b3e3ee061891a9ace61a889e671f33750) (https://imageshack.com/i/ex37TMUlj)
Swass! This will be like the Dom3 game but better! >:D
Can we get a quick full count of who and where the players are?
UGeek is Piedmont, SDR IS RUSSIA, and Tuna as France... anyone else?
Also, France looks like it has some border states (between it and Sardine-Pie and the Swiss) that aren't exactly counted in its main mass; am I seeing that right?
Just the three of us playing this campaign.
Turn 2 for Russia. No screenies because I'm lazy and will probably only update every 3 months of game time (6 turns) or if something eventful happens.
Our worker efficiency is poor compared to other European nations so I proposed instituting mandatory education for the kiddies. Still awaiting the response from the populace to see if it will go through.
I bought a fair chunk of machined tools on the international market so that should see my factories continue running for the next few months but it drained a lot of capital.
Intelligence sources informed me that the Armenian rabble are arming themselves and a revolt is highly probable. In response, I sent a few brigades of Cossack cavalry to the area and raised another Cossack brigade. Let's see how those uni-browed Levantines enjoy the taste of sabre.
Stop it, I just uninstalled this game!
Seriously, I do look forward to reading this AAR. I've always wanted to play a complete game of Pride of Nations but have never made it.
Also, if I might make a suggestion, please have a look at this thread (http://grogheads.com/forums/index.php?topic=9496.0) concerning posting images. :P

Nothing much to report. The initiative to institute mandatory primary education went through and that caused a big hit to the state coffers. The people seem happy with the idea though.
I sent an expedition of the Naturalists' Society to the Kazakh region to catalogue the fauna and flora but they seem to have been eaten or something.
I proposed a favoured-nation trade deal with Great Britain. They were initially enthusiastic about the idea but later backed out on the deal due to complaints from the Swedes. I guess they aren't happy with Russia controlling Finland.
The lower classes have started passing around the Communist Manifesto by Marx. Hopefully the ideas contained within don't gain traction. Time will tell.
Its time to start cozying up to Tuna in France, i send an offer of a state visit, the first step on relations improvement -

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimagizer.imageshack.us%2Fv2%2F1600x1200q90%2F673%2Fe5Rutb.jpg&hash=fd76435c38eee3c845bb6cc4535643a8b42c7c7e) (https://imageshack.com/i/ipe5Rutbj)
Capitalists in Russia have been raking it in from the sale of dyes and chemicals. With all that private capital around, I pushed for the construction of some rail lines and a machine parts factory. That ate up about 80% of the private funds out there.
Next turn, the capitalists were whining about the lack of available credit and demanded easier access. The banks fired up the presses and now I've got inflation.
Note to self, spend less per turn in future.
Not much else going on. I sent a diplomatic mission to Sweden to improve relations with the meatball lovers. If I can get them on-side, maybe the Brits will agree to a trade deal later.

They are on my computer but I do use that CTRL + trick to magnify which causes your images to have that scroll bar appear on the bottom. So, maybe it's just me. :)
The next level down the text is unreadable
My diplomatic overtures to Sweden were completely rebuffed. The Swedes wouldn't even meet with my mission and that caused relations to sour even further.
I wish there were a better way to locate and jump to provinces. I had meant to build a machine parts factory in Veliky Novgorod as it's close to raw materials and wouldn't be too far away from St. Petersberg so constructing rail lines wouldn't be too much of a problem in terms of time or money. Unfortunately, I had a case of the stupids exacerbated by too much vodka and I mistakenly built it in Nizshy-Novgorod, several hundred miles east of Moscow. Oops.
Nothing else going on with Russia right now. Just waiting for stuff to be built. Cash flow is good. The non-ethnic Russians are still angry but the Russian populace is happy with the way the country's being led as of now.

Just FYI.. I kept reading on the forums that if you want world trade to be bustling with available imports that players in the game must offer many types of commodities for trade, even if you must pass them back through like this. I suppose this has to do with how the AI nations run their economies and their reliance on healthy quantities of player exports to produce other goods that they, in turn, will offer.
It's now the end of May, 1850 in the game. Russia's internal economy is still doing fairly well. Private capital was expended to add a branching rail line on the St. Petersburg-Moscow main line. The new line will add Kiev and Smolensk to the rail network.
A new merchant fleet has been under construction in St. Petersburg for a few months and should be ready to launch by the middle of July.
(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv320%2Fbogaty%2FPBEM3_zpsa101eb1a.jpg%7Eoriginal&hash=f135f3e95465be6a8a165e0c35e53b2ba38a53a7)
State capital was spent improving the road network between Moscow and Nizhny-Novgorod in anticipation of the new machine parts factories being constructed there.
(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv320%2Fbogaty%2FPBEM4_zps9525ec64.jpg%7Eoriginal&hash=d8e9b0893b1adb1b2b4b9249b4fb12e6ff8ef961)
In spite of a decent economy, people are not happy with their tax burden. A fair number have left Russia and emigrated to the US and Canada. This despite the fact that I've lowered taxes considerably since the game started.
Still more have left the cities of western Russia in favour of living in the backwoods of Siberia. Mad bastards. (You can see in the message bar at the bottom of the screen that 51,000 have moved there so far this year.)

Commerce shows i have successful selling markets in fish, fruit, preserved goods, cotton and wine
and that im buying in coal, wheat, cattle, wood, dyes and iron - the last 3 are to keep the factories running
(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimagizer.imageshack.us%2Fv2%2F1600x1200q90%2F674%2F66Bs39.jpg&hash=52c2fc3f273e7adcf160d056614cf1f7fed3a178) (https://imageshack.com/i/iq66Bs39j)
As the comment feed shows, were buying in £52 a turn and selling £87 so capital is increasing all the time but the long term goal is to build our own coal mine, cattle reserve and machine parts factory - a way to go yet

Man, it looks like you are in a world of hurt- you don't have any coffee!
there go my plans to unify Italy!!
I hope you'll forgive my question, geek, but I'm curious as to why you're working so hard to make Piedmont self-sufficient in terms of exports/imports. I thought I recalled the game encouraged interdependence of trade/goods among nations to a certain degree.
Is my memory playing me false here? Or is it more that in your particular case, many of your imported goods come from countries you expect you'll be at war with in the not-too-distant future, and so you're trying to wean yourself off of them as early as possible?
Also: Why does Tuna not post as well? Certainly he isn't any more shy or less bold than geek and SDR. ;D
just a balance of payments thing Martok, if i can stop money leaving the country to pay for coal, wood, wheat, luxuries and cattle it allows me to spend more on improving the infrastructure of the nation and spend more on the army, plus if those imports dry up my factories stop working - for instance i buy coal from North Germany - they have 72 units to trade away but a demand of 86, sometimes i get it, sometimes i dont
I can answer your question about Tuna, Martok. It's because trying to get him to remember to take screenshots to AAR is like trying to get the Cookie Monster off cookies. It ain't going to happen.
Yup. Charlie don't surf and Tuna don't AAR.
My merchant fleet is finally complete and set up trade routes from the UK to St. Petersburg. The Japanese are offering inducements to the savages on Sakhalin Island in an attempt to curry favour. I responded by sending some missionaries and merchants to win over the populace and some bribes to the chiefs.
State coffers are empty again and the harsh conditions in the wilds of the east are slowly draining the strength of my units there. I can't afford to replace all the losses.
The Yanks are making noises about Alaska. I may be induced to sell if the price is right.

I really don't know why you're pasting url links to imageshack, UGeek. Using the {img} code by itself works fine. Also, note how I scaled back the image with the width=xxx subcommand, easily added to the initial img code. Does that look better guys?

Right now, you've set your imagizer at the shack to 1600x1200, G; and there are ways around that manually, too, but just using the forum software here to scale the images seems to work fine.
SDR, here's one of yours at 1024:

Yeah I only made them big because at 1200 they were too squinty
Yup. Can't read the font if you shrink it. Lazy bastards can scroll to the right.
If you resize the pic using the html code in your post then someone can click in the image and it will appear full size until they click again.
Cool I'll make em smaller
This is starting to fall apart. If we can't commit to at least a turn/day then I'm ready to call it quits.

once the trade is sorted its time to start looking at the military
I running into supply problems. I'm not sure if it's something that I'm not understanding about the game's supply system or a bug. I have a supply depot on the Caspian sea with a supply level of 4 and it's being reliably fed supplies from Sevastapol. I have a force comprised of 3 units of Cossack cavalry (each with 4 light cavalry elements) and 2 supply wagons. They are 2 provinces away from the depot in an area of dry steppe. I have 90% military control of the region and I keep cycling one supply wagon back to the depot to re-load supplies yet the Force is constantly running out of supply and taking attrition hits.
Any ideas why I'm not able to stay in supply?
Is the dry steppe considered desert? I thought I read that desert environment you would take attrition hits anyways.. if you're hanging around..
Ok, I will try and get involved here as well.. First off, I have no clue what I am doing. But, I am glad that SDR and UCG have made me play this game as previously I have never made it past the first turn. Even though I love it on paper the speed of the game is what I struggle with, seems very slow!
My constant indecision's and changing my mind is probably a big factor in my speed issue. Whether it's from having different needs, or just forgetting what I was attempting to do in previous turns I seem to have trouble staying focused. This causes me to take an extra long time getting things built. Maybe this is just growing pains in 'learning' the game, and will eventually go away. I hope so, because I really want to love this game. It's like Civilization meets AGEOD!
Lately I have plenty of capital cash.. I think that is keeping my inflation in check.

I was very low on Manufactured goods, but couldn't get enough money to build another factory.. Then I figured out, I was selling too many Manufacturing good units, and that is no longer a problem..
First MF goods Factory starting in Arras.

Another thing I'm not sure of, if you have to many industrial placements in an area, could you not have enough population to support said unit. This makes me really wish we had the Census screen that SDR mentions. In the mean time, I will try to build where nothing else is being made, unless it's a resource I really need.

1850 is drawing to a close and, as the snows started to fall around Moscow, work was finally completed on the Moscow-St. Petersburg rail line. Trunk lines to Minsk and Kiev should be completed by the late spring of 1851.

Here's a Cossack cavalry division stationed in Ulan-Ude on the eastern shores of Lake Baikal. On the right, you can see the 5 regiments that make up the division. The red in the boxes indicates losses and these are all due to attrition brought about by lack of supplies.

While passing through again this afternoon, allow me to reiterate how great it is to see a multiplayer AAR on a game like this which is largely (but not entirely) socio-economic in form and function. And which doesn't get a lot of attention, due to having a bad reputation.

+1 Thanks for doing this guys; I'm really enjoying it.
End of January, 1851.
Things are starting to get...interesting. In late 1850, the economy in the US took a hit and the ripple effect is starting be be felt around the civilized world. While Russia has not yet been as affected by it as some nations, trade is suffering. The amount of goods our merchant fleets shipped was way down and this caused private capital to dry up. As a consequence, capitalists called for more money printing and inflation has gone up again. (and we bought some wine from Tuna, as can been seen in the notes at the bottom of the screenshot.)
(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv320%2Fbogaty%2FPBEM13_zps5f709fc1.jpg%7Eoriginal&hash=9733221be1848aaeae637baaaac8391a9b1d79f0)
On the positive side, my efforts to improve roads and establish a more reliable system of supply depots past the Urals seems to be working. Losses are down and some units are even recovering now even though they're on 1/2 rations.

Odd that those little fellows from Japan would seek to challenge us when we're ascending. That's just what they've done however. The impertinent buggers have gone and set up military outposts around our fishing port and missionary station on the southern end of Sakhalin Island. This could prove troublesome in the future. Oh well, I've no doubt a visit from the Imperial Fleet currently stationed in St. Petersburg will soon put them to rights.

Finally, I just found this little tooltip on the trade screen. If you hover your cursor over the national assets box (the one on the top right of the panel), there's an advisory section in the info box that suggests what factories you should build and where. I never knew about this. Looks like I'm getting into the opium trade!

ooo, i should have mentioned that, although having built 4 from mine the list never gets shorter - insatiable bugger it is
does anyone know how to progress a province with a mission, a trading post and other stuff into a full blown colony?
how i wish i had your funds!
i started 8th i think, ive no idea why ive slipped to 11th apart from a minor disagreement with the populace over the nobility
also just lost 25 points of relationship score with Parma - one day friends, next day not so much, nothing on the intelligence panel - i need all these guys for when the big reunion rush starts!
I finally defeated the rebels in Biskra again no contest with overwhelming superiority in numbers.

Thanks for the tip about Trade, SDR, will have to look at that.
Having email issues right now so I sent out the turns with an alternate email address. Let me know you guys get them.
got mine - weirdly down to 9mb again
Good. Looks like it was just a temporary issue. I can attach files and send them with the main email account again.
AND
DAMN IT! The economic crisis from the US hit Russia this turn. Inflation jumped from 2% to 7% overnight.
just sent it back up the channel it came down - do you want it on the normal account?
Nope. Got it. Tuna said the file I sent him from the backup account was corrupt so I sent out another copy to you. As the first worked for you, don't load the other one up or it'll be Groundhog Day.
Let's go back in time and prevent the American Economic Crisis!!!!
I was thinking about getting my copy patched up someday soon (seeing as how it won't even boot on my Win8 machine for some obscure reason), and I think I saw talk over at the Ageod forums that the current version was actually released as recently as a couple of months ago, back in July. Someone was even talking in a thread about improvements he saw but still some bugs he was noticing as well as improvements that could be worked on.
Is that even right? What version are y'all using? (Mine is 1.01, which yes I know is worthlessly ancient. The current patch may not even work with the Paradox edition, which I bought years ago from Gamersgate.)
The latest official patch is 1.03E. There was a beta patch released called 1.04RC2 that fixed some bugs and sped up the turn processing time a bit but it also introduced two major bugs. One made garrison troops immortal so you could never win a siege. The other caused some people's PCs to slow to a crawl whenever you opened the trade screen "B" or the economy tab "F4" and it would take upwards of 10 minutes before they'd close down. There was a hotfix released on Aug 3 that fixed the garrison bug and the slowdown but it introduced some new bugs. For a lot of users, the pop census screens and the unit data screens now no longer show much of the information they're meant to. All the text is missing from the census screen and the unit art, the unit descriptions, and the range data is missing from the unit screens.
I'd stick with v 1.03E at this point.
Mine is the GamersGate 1.01 version.. I think I patched.. 1.03 1.04 then the rc2 hotfix..
Okay, that's good info, thanks.
My fuzzy understanding is that the expansion packs don't add anything to the grand campaign per se, only set up new campaign start conditions (and maybe limit the focus of which nations can be played and where on the map). Is that right?
Also, I foresee some potential compatibility problems coming if different versions are being used in your MP game...
I think all the expansions with the exception of Africa are just battle scenarios... lol.. have them all, but have never played any of them.. 'This' is the first time I'm getting into the game1
Okay, sooooo... does Scramble add features to the late period of the grand campaign (starting from 1800 through 1920)?
I think the main thing it adds is a shorter Grand Campaign that starts in 1880 instead of 1850 and a bunch of new events and colony-centric crises.
Question:
I sometimes get prestige awarding missions such as "Be the world's leading producer of cereals for 10 years, at least 80% of the time." Is there a tool-tip available somewhere that provides info on who is producing what amounts of each good per turn somewhere?
all i know is if you click on the red line in the messages it takes you to the owner of that prestige message, i got the 'biggest army in europe notification' clicked on it and low and behold its Tuna
i also know if you click on T in the trade zones it will bring up whats been sold - if this is an indicator as to what they produce, i dunno
The T is over what country or region you are hovering over.. I wish you could see all of your countries trade window in one window.. instead of having to click on different regions..
fortunately i only have one trade zone!
I wish. I've got 26.
You can also use T over another nation's trade zone to put in buy orders for their goods as long as you have a connection to the trade zone.
A few months of government subsidies on raw materials and a positive cash flow has helped get our inflation under control and we're back down to a healthy 1%.
I'm generally happy with my stockpiles of materials. Ammunition is low but I can always ramp up production if need be. I wish I could generate more state funds but my civil service is pretty backwards and corrupt.
(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv320%2Fbogaty%2FPBEM18_zpsb6ba1769.jpg%7Eoriginal&hash=bb39d989131054cb0bef1b5b97b9255c32b804d2)
One of the many reasons I'd like more state funds is so that I could focus my research. As it stands, I don't provide any guidance or direction on the research being done in Russia so we're generally behind other nations and adopt ideas and tech from them rather than developing our own. It also means I'm never sure what I'm going to get. Case in point, my military academies have adopted Jomini's formulaic approach to war with decisive battles and elan. I was hoping they'd go with the Clausewitzian school of thought but it looks like we're stuck with the attack-to-win school. Oh well. (Once you fully research one of the two schools, you can't use the other.)
(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv320%2Fbogaty%2FPBEM17_zpsf195f04a.jpg%7Eoriginal&hash=109de114932679ab414ae2b0836286209b3b5aee)
SDR, is there anything you can realistically do about improving your civil service (and indirectly/by extension, your state funds)? Or are you pretty much stuck with absurdly inefficient/corrupt bureaucrats?
I could try to hurry research that might trigger an event which would allow me to slightly improve but in order to do so, I'd have to use state funds which are already perilously low. The Catch-22 is that it costs a huge amount of state funds in order to enact a national policy change (usually 200. I earn about 15-20 per turn) and there's a good chance the ruling elite will refuse to implement it, causing me to waste all that money and take a prestige hit.
Realistically, I pretty much have to accept that Russia is the inbred hillbilly of Europe. Much of this is hard coded into the game in the form of a national efficiency modifier. Russia's is very low which means it takes me roughly twice as long to build a rail as it would for France and 2.5 times as long as Prussia.
It's frustrating but I kind of like it because it adds to the historical flavour.
I once again proposed an Anglo-Russian trade deal and once again was rebuffed. The reason given this time was that the UK thought my government was too weak and unjust. The Austrians have no problem doing business with us though.

Yeah, I was hurting for State Funds in the beginning of the game, and I couldn't figure out why.. Then realized because I chose a few research items... Very expensive, once I cut the research I was ok again.
I've been wanting to build a Luxury Goods Factory to bring in more cash, but everytime I try, I don't have enough MF Goods.. So I guess a Manufactured Goods Factory will have to come first.

This is absolutely one of those games where every player needs a lot of different things, some more than others -- but no player has enough to safely get the things, leading to hard choices about what to pursue and what not.
Which I love. :smitten:
Yeah, PrON definitely seems to force players to make hard choices, even more than most strategy games (which I agree is a good thing).

Not much changing on the main land, my manufactured goods factory is open, as is the mechanical parts factory - theres is excess enough to sell these on the market and money is actually rolling in, just not on a par with the 2 big boys here. Using a Government decree to try and take a bite of the inflation. I think if you have a lot of Capital Cash at the end of the turn that helps too, so maybe if I don't spend too much every turn, I'll be able to keep it in check

We were able to get a fair number of turns in this weekend. It's now early 1852. Russia's in a holding pattern at this point. I'm slowly extending my rail network but I think I found an issue with the map. I'm trying to build a continuous rail line from St. Petersburg to Sevastapol so I built a railroad in Bylchov province. This should connect Kiev to Orsha as both of those provinces already have rail lines but for some reason it's not linking to either. I may have to build another line in Bobriusk province but that will have to wait until I save up enough state funds to undertake swamp drainage. That's going to be a while as I'll need 200 state funds and I'm at about 50 right now.
(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv320%2Fbogaty%2FPON33_zpsa5a374f6.jpg%7Eoriginal&hash=9ce4faf8f1ddc54c8a601bc5f05ae2444e911b26)
I haven't been paying too much attention to the Pacific region and it came back to bite me. The Chinese somehow managed to build a coaling station in Primorie province even though they're fully involved with the Taiping rebellion. This caused me to lose the last of my military control of the province and it's threatening my tenuous hold on the entire region. I'm going to have to start spending money and influence there if I want to keep Vladivostok.

I've been slowly building up depots and road networks in the area east of the Caspian as I hope to gobble up Khiva, Samarkand, and Tashkent by the end of the decade.
I've sent some Cossack cavalry over but their general is useless. Each cavalry unit requires 5 command points to effectively control but this twit of an officer can only control 2 command points. I think that means he can successfully command an observation balloon and that's about it. I've got another general coming with 3 more units of Cossacks but he's no good a commanding non-Russian troops and I don't want to overwhelm the depot with too much supply demand.

So what happens with units where the general in charge doesn't have sufficient command points? Do they simply not get any bonuses, and/or suffer penalties? (It's been a while since I played PrON or another AGEOD title, so my memory's rusty.)
You get a penalty to actions. If you look on the lower right side of the final screenshot, you'll see an envelope icon which has the penalty value listed on its right.
I have a problem. I've been presented with an event in which I have to choose one of two options. I'd like to choose "Pressure Turkey" but when I click on that tab, the little box with X in it goes away but the same box with the little X stays on the Compromise tab. Does this mean I've selected "Pressure Turkey" or have I de-selected that option and gone ahead with "compromise"?
Anyone know?
Here's the screen when I click on the "Pressure Turkey" tab.

I couldn't say why, exactly, but I laughed out loud at this. :D
looks like Tuna has jumped onboard with the Ottomans
Crimeny!
genuine latin based surprise, or a Crimean pun?
one will result in applause, the other, instant death
Actually it was surprise at you starting the Crimean war, as I hadn't seen Tuna siding with the Ottomans (apparently) yet. Though when I posted and saw that, I was surprised at that, too.
Otherwise, both. >:D
The Turks took offense to my pressuring them and have gone sniveling to the UK and France for help. My relations with the UK have slightly soured over the event which is by no means over. The French, perhaps seeking to contain British expansionism, have offered a defensive pact which I immediately agreed to.

On the turn prior to the Turkish crisis, I ordered my diplomats to forge a cassus belli against the Khanate of Khiva. I guess I am more used to the CK2 pace of things as I thought it would take several turns for this plot to come to fruition but it happened right away. Khivan irregular cavalry raided one of my outposts and slaughtered the garrison of 400 as my main force was still en route. However, as that same Khivan cavalry unit tried to retreat back to their capital, they were caught by a flying column of mine and were killed to a man.

I have 5 divisions of Cossack cavalry moving towards the capital but they'll have to cross the Amu Daria river to get there and I expect some heavy losses during the crossing.

Finally, Muslim minorities in the Northern Caucasus, perhaps upset over my spat with the Ottomans, rose up in rebellion and pillaged the Chirskaya region. My troops managed to defeat them and cause them to retreat with 40% casualties but they're still running around, stirring up trouble.

Any way to get a general to activate? Mine's just decided to have a nap in the middle of a war zone.
^^ You're Russia, right? Maybe this is verisimilitude?
;D
Could be. That drunken sot of a general spent the entire turn prostrate in his tent as the rebel forces regained cohesion.
Things in Khiva aren't going well. My flying column ran into the main Khivan force and were all too easily dispatched. Their chinless commander managed to extricate himself and is now convalescing in Baku Baku while the corpses of his men litter the steppe.
(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv320%2Fbogaty%2FPON42_zpseeb6e6ae.jpg%7Eoriginal&hash=be56e3d1a746ed0e8a852305e77cd45055ea1458)
On the plus side, I now know what the Khivan Emir's forces consist of. I also know that the 5 Cossack divisions I send to take on the Emir's army aren't going to be anywhere near enough. Those divisions are now falling back to our depot on the eastern shore of the Caspian Sea. They'll have to hold out for 44 days until reinforcements arrive from Grozny.
Things with the Ottomans continue to heat up. Decision time.

Huh. I read three options, but I only see two offered...... :-\
Not selecting any and just ending the turn would be the "no nothing" option, I assume.
Unlike what UCG stated (trying to start international crisis!), I have not joined the war on the side of the Ottomans. I offered a defensive pact with both UCG and SDR.
Funny thing is, I thought that would give me a Casus-Belli with the Ottomans, but I see nothing of the sort yet.. :-[

Now I moved the fleet into the Trade Box to join up with the Merchants this will help with supplies for a little while until my Depot is complete in Vinhlong

Few turns later.. Depot is complete, but still no supplies :'(.
Opening up the Trade Window, I see that it's supplied by the South China Sea Maritime Link (where I have my Merchants), so I don't know what else to do.. maybe bring the fleet home .

To send an ultimatum obviously. One must stand up to these Turks, you know? Otherwise you'll soon find falafel stands and hookah shops around your pubs and the hipsters will show up soon afterwards. Nobody wants that.

LOL, true. You don't want St. Petersburg becoming the Victorian equivalent of Seattle/Portland. :2funny:
The Turks declared war, I guess. Our navies in the Black Sea just started blasting each other this turn. I never got any messages informing me that war had started though. I got a message saying The London Protocols were enacted but those relate to Denmark and Schleswig-Holstein. I wonder if it's a bug?

We build two brigades of artillery, ramping our 1st Army's combat strength upto 1100, out to the east at Venice is a 1600 point Austrian army - there is building to be done! My main weakness here is manpower, i need 130 men and 10 officers for a new division but only produce 6 men a turn

Its a bit trial and error in the colonies at the minute. Im not strong enough to actually colonise anywhere yet but can build missions and trading posts where and when provinces will allow (i dont what the parameters are), at the minute the majority of provinces in the Horn of Africa and coming up through the Suez has an Italian mission and trading post there. In Ethiopia i have a mission and trading post in the major towns and despite not been able to build any infrastructure (roads, rail, fortresses) it seems i can upgrade the local resources - every turn or 2 i get 1 coffee from Harer, but this turn im allowed to build a coffee farm there.

I hope it works. Shitty Russian generals, when combined with mountainous terrain in Turkey and a corrupt bureaucracy at home, make it very hard to sustain an offensive. I'm besieging Varna and sinking Turkish merchantmen in the Black Sea but that's about it. I don't have enough strength to make a push in the East from Georgia. The Turks and I just sit in our forts on the border and glare at one another as the enlisted men die from dysentery and I don't have the funds to replace them thank to the corrupt bean counters.
ive started taking a 20 unit hit every turn on cereals due to corruption - is there any way to combat this?
Dump money into research that'll let you change government types or introduce reforms. That's about it apart from random events, I think.
Well, it's taken way too much money and casualties but I think I've finally got the Khivan army at the point where I'll be able to engage them decisively. I've spent months trying to force a mass engagement but the constant marching and counter-marching through the steppes played havoc on the cohesion of my various corps. I was never able to get them to hit in a co-ordinated manner so the Khivan forces would either defeat my troops piecemeal or slip away from superior forces. Now that the snows have fallen, they have lost a lot of their mobility and I was finally able to pin them down by sacrificing the forces holed up in my depot. Even though they took very heavy casualties, they held the Khivans in place long enough for my remaining army to get in to position. Hopefully the buggers won't be able to slip by us again. Fighting these colonial wars is very tough!
Battle report from the defeat of the army in the depot.

I've been harassing the Khivan capital with cavalry units in an attempt to intercept any supplies. Looks like they Khivans have managed to raise some troops within the city. I hope to defeat their main army next turn and then besiege their city.

The war with Turkey is slowly plodding along. My army in Varna managed to breach the city's defensive works in 3 places and then assault the town itself. The town is still in Turkish hands but we inflicted heavy casualties on the Turks and managed to take 3,200 of them prisoner. I suspect the town will fall to us next turn.

Varna fell this turn and I managed to snaffle some supplies. The dirty Khivan army slipped past my armies and is now holed up in the depot and garrison buildings and I have to lay siege.

God damned Khivans!
The Tsar himself led the Russian forces against the Emir of Khiva and was able to retake the depot on the banks of the Caspian. We suffered ridiculously heavy losses and the Khivans somehow managed to retreat in good order. (stupid game. I landed my forces North of Dakar, combined them with the existing forces there and ordered them to move to Dakar. I put them in Defensive Mode, as I'd like them to regain some cohesion before changing them to Assault. Hopefully this doesn't allow the Brits to go into the fortress. If so, my bad. I also put the fleet that transported them into Bombard Mode in case any altercation does occur. Back at home I have another division getting ready to depart. I'd really like to just take Dakar back and sue for peace, then maybe open a can of whoops ass on the Ottomans.. Also the UK is wreaking havoc on my shipping everywhere, and for some reason their icons all look like Battleships, while mine are Frigates :(
Oh well, Fingers crossed.

you need wine to celebrate?
maybe some mechanical parts?
How are you guys handling the 'no F6' census bug? Is there another way to see that information?
i have the screen, although thats quietly worrying - i suppose the guys could send me their oders and ill take a screen shot of the screen and manage what they need

What does it look like? Just curious what kind of information we're lacking.. Can you post a screenie?
If colonising was just a matter of building missions and trading posts i own all of East Africa nd the Horn of Africa, i have a coffee field in Harer and an Opium field in Mogadishu plus an exploitation centre in Mogadishu, dont know what it does, and i dont believe its doing anything but it allowed me to build it - i thought it might push trade through the area but it doesnt - im guessing i need a harbour to formalise shipping of the coffee and drugs, ill research further

and for Tuna, the census screen - pie charts showing the happiness, social breakdown, militantism, education, religion and ethics splits
the needs of the masses
and the columns i mainly look at are happiness, Savoie been the grumpiest at 57%, and those crazy Alessandrians on 98% (the grumpiest also include the French <<Gallic shrug>>) and on the other side of the happy masks is the want for reform, currently at 100 in Piedmont and Sardinia, i assume this is for unification, the actions i can take to remedy high figures here are political ones that reduce the numbers by 3-5% so it seems a little pointless in their case, and i seem to be suffering no ill effects at high

Hmm.. I hope they fix that bug quickly so SDR and I get our Census Charts back!
Yes, it would be helpful especially as I have 100+ provinces. There is a map mode that does show population happiness. You can use that to spot troublesome areas (I wish they would have used colour coding instead of the actor's masks on the map) and then get some more info by mousing over the province and waiting for the tooltip to pop up.

I think UCG might be up to something most underhanded. The game has nation-specific music files yet when I ran the latest turn the usual sombre Russian songs were gone, replaced by Paganini's frenetic fiddle scratching.
And you thought he was only selling wine!
We got a few turns in tonight before SDR had to head off to work.

No.. I think they were attacked by the British.. :-[
Depends on where merchants come from, as to how degraded they are.
French and Italian merchants for example have bad reputations; but just imagine how degraded the merchants would be from some fictional country existing in between them... :D

Kewl! I was starting to wonder if it was in-game, and if someone would run across it while colonizing Africa and the Arabias.
(I'm sorry I've been too sick and busy to update that; possibly tonight.)
Er, if it's 1853 what's with the advanced looking French ships in that fifth screenshot? ???
I think that's just the default graphic that pops up whenever a naval engagement takes place. The actual units are represented on the unit cards and most ships are still sail. The Turks do somehow manage to have a few paddle-wheelers in the eastern Black Sea though. I've got them bottled up in port.
Yeah.. the graphic made me do a doubletake too.. but the unit cards down below were all Sailing ships.. No Dreadnaughts yet!
And here I was wondering if the AI was smart enough to do invasions.. Earlier I have moved two big Armies on to the Channel just in case. Low and behold Wellington invades Southern France!

Do you want some wine?
Considering that you're nearby, you could lend him some observation balloons, allowing him to observe how badly Wellington is mauling his armies. :buck2: :'(
Sucky turn for me as well. The Turks and I had been sneering at each other over the border near Tiblisi. Two turns ago, some Chechens started rebelling so I pulled a small cavalry contingent away from my army guarding the border and sent them north to deal with the rebels. That slight weakening was all it took for the Turks to decide to cross. There were a series of fights in and around Tiblisi that I ended up losing. The Turks are now in there with an Army rated at 2,200 strength and the biggest I've got anywhere even close is only 740. Tiblisi is one of my core victory point locations so I'm losing a lot of prestige as well as national morale and the rebellious provinces are getting more so. On the plus side, I'm only two provinces away from Istanbul and they've only got a 350 point army defending it against my 1700 point one. (of course I can't see past Istanbul due to fog of war so who knows what's lurking nearby?)

Huh, I'm surprised Tiblisi is a core VP location for the Russkies. Does/did the city have historical significance to them?
Keeping my fingers crossed the Turks were stupid enough to leave Istanbul under-defended...
WHATEVER RUSSIA TAKES IS A POINT OF VIKTORY FOR RUSSIA! TO EVER LOSE IS GREAT SHAME AND TO TAKE AGAIN IS VIKTORY! :D
(Actual geopolitical strategy of Vlad Putin right now.)
Also, Russia is so vastly huge, and fluctuates so much over time, sure I'm willing to buy almost any city I've never heard of is a Victory Point for Russia. ;)
(Also a probable geopolitical strategy for Putin right now.)
Ok, maybe the AI is not that smart. Wellington's Army has moved inland and I have taken back Langedoc. To the North in Rhone there is a smaller Calvary Unit, hopefully I will take them out.

I've decided to move my other two large Armies to the South to hopefully prevent him from moving around too much. I'm thinking moving inland was not very smart on the AI's part, I mean a huge Army like that could burn up supply quickly. Hopefully the AI wasn't trying to 'lure' me away from the Channel.. I'm beginning to doubt that the AI plays by the same rules. I did select AI uses same supply rules but they never seem to be out of supply or suffer much in the way of cohesion losses when moving. They also seem to be able to move much faster than we can. The Turkish army that was in Tiblisi was able to move 8 provinces back to Constantinople faster than I could and I was only two provinces away. The Turks don't have rail and I don't think the forced march option works that well.
It it because of this game option (Redeployment)?

Thought that was just Leaders? Although it was in ACW.. hmm i could use that to get some General in Africa back to France, where they are needed!
I found this in an old Civil War thread:
Redeployment is a new feature that basically alows you to redeploy your troops anywhere on the map as long as the two regions are connected by rail.
Mechanics:
Select the option in special orders
Select the region you wish to redeploy to
The next turn, your stack will appear in the new region.
I don't know if it applies to PoN or not but hopefully that's what happened. Either that or Wellington has access to transporter technology! :D
Those... are two different descriptions? -- one of them is VASTLY much more extensive than the other one.
Also, SDR said the Turks don't have rails. (Though maybe you should check that again...?)
Last night's turn, and the UK is just running around France having their way with my frazzled forces.. Wellington has broken off into a smaller force. Even though he is besieging the region he is in, I'm rushing some forces by railroad to Paris just in case!

Well, after several turns of watching the Turkish armies run rings around me without ever losing cohesion or supply, I've decided this is not a winnable war and have offered peace. Must say my enthusiasm for this game is greatly dampened knowing that the AI doesn't have to play by the same rules as the humies.
I took 4 Turkish provinces in the west and got as far as the western bank of the Bosphorus but I lost Tiblisi in the east. Because Tiblisi is a core province for Russia, the game says I'm the loser in the war so I have to offer some sort of reparations to Turkey to even get them to consider peace. I chose to offer monetary compensation of 7% of my GNP for 5 years. Will have to wait to see if they accept.
ouch, blimey thats some payment

Someone suggested it was Strategic Movement, which uses Rail Lines (I tried to use it for a couple of my Generals in Africa, to beam them back home like a transporter, but it said "uh uh"). But that is only for the 'leader' I believe, not the whole Army.. at least it was that way in ACW. Plus Wellington is trashing my rail lines when he visits... I'm wondering why he's not dying for supplies (maybe he's grabbing them here and there).
Kind of sucks if the AI has this super advantage.. lol.. isn't it advantage enough that we are noobs to the game!

Huge Armies like that you don't have the points to use Rail. I can't do my own in France.. have to be smaller..
balloon squadron?
The Turks accepted peace with a return to pre-war borders and me paying a yearly indemnity of 7% of GNP for 5 years. I took a bit of a prestige hit (-25 pts) and a slight loss of national morale but at least that quagmire is over. Now I can concentrate on those damned central Asian tribes. Knowing what I know now about the way the AI operates, I think it's time to amp up the Russian. Mass ridiculously large armies and try to curb stomp small countries into submission in 1-2 turns before everything goes to shit due to no supply and poor leadership.

I concur that really blows. As a longtime strategy gamer, I can accept certain types of AI "cheating" (such as bonuses to production, research, etc.). But I can't f'ing *stand* it when the AI gets to play by different rules than the human player. >:(

I take it this is something Russia is specifically geared for then?
Not really. Russia can fairly easily build up massive armies due to her huge manpower. Defensively, Russia shouldn't have a problem but going on the offensive is difficult because the infrastructure is crap and it's all too easy to drain all the supplies out of the little towns and cities in the hinterland. If I'm going to push over the Hindu Kush, I'm going to have to spend a lot of time and money building up a chain of supply depots and wagon trains.
Lost two big battles with the large British force last night.
This morning I beat the small Wellington force in the South at Limonges

You'd think there'd be more loss of life with that combination.
The next turn I won two battles against the Brits, even though in the first one, my losses were 3 times as much.
Right now I have two armies in that province at around 800 power each, and he's 700 something.. although it's snowing hard.. hope UCG didn't go to sleep.. want to see one more turn!
I think this game is evil at heart.
I ended the war with the Turks so I can finally go and deal with the Khivans once and for all. I took their capital a year ago yet they are still able to field a big army out in the desert that doesn't seem to need supplies nor does it suffer attrition losses. Anyway, I'm slowly moving my armies over there but taking big attrition losses due to it being winter (which doesn't affect the AI apparently.) I figure I should be able to destroy the Khivan army in a set piece battle and then push on to Samarkand in the spring. At least I thought so until the game decided I'd be the one to get hit by an economic crisis.
Overnight, inflation jumped from 2% to 17% and all private capital dried up. It's now sitting at 0. National morale dropped 6 points and I've got riots in Moscow and Warsaw. Great!!! According to the manual, a crisis can be triggered if there hasn't been one for at least 3 years and the average private capital holdings of the industrialized nations of the world are greater than £2,000. As my usual holdings are around £700, I blame Tuna and UCG for this.
Bastards!

Quote from: PON manualPanic and Crisis
If Private Capital averages at least £2000 across the major organized countries, and there has been no economic
crisis anywhere in the world for 3 years, a sudden crash called a Panic can trigger an economic crisis in a major
power that is has some Inflation. The chance of a Panic is based on there being on average more than £2000 in
Pirvate Capital in the major powers and the degree of current Inflation of the country being tested for Panic. If a
Panic occurs, the country suffers from economic crisis and endures several adverse and debilitating effects. It loses
Prestige, loses at least £1000 of Private Capital, gains a lot of Inflation, and its population gains militancy and loses
a lot of Contentment.
So basically your stock market crashed, despite not having invented the stock market yet. :idiot2:

Not much going on in Russia. I'm still trying to pin down the last of the Khivan army and I'm also trying to get inflation under control.
The rebellions in Warsaw and Moscow were put down almost immediately but those damned Khivans just refused to be pinned down and they just won't die!
(I read something interesting on the forums concerning rebel armies. If you don't crush them utterly, they will rebuild at the end of a turn if they are left to rest. Makes putting a rebellion down completely very difficult, especially in areas with no roads and hard climates. That explains why the damned Khivans aren't dying like flies out there in the desert unlike my troops.)

^^ That seems super-broken without some other factors supporting it, like being in regions with high unrest to allow for troop replacement. Also, the replaced troops ought to be low quality; and even if they have familiarity with the land (allowing for movement and resupply bonuses), unless some rebels convinced Jesus to stop with the whole 'friend of sinners and Romans' thing and start with the whole 'nuking Romans' they can't just replicate bread, fish, and wine! -- eventually the party will be over and someone will be the last guy stuck with the check!
I offered UK Peace.. and 5 Pounds a year for 3 years.. they laughed at me :-[
Something seems very broken about that, too. By all evidence so far you should have won.
Of course in real life, defeating a serious invasion force and solidly claiming the disputed land doesn't necessarily win a war. Wars only stop when people decide they don't want to be at war anymore. The British government in-game may perceive that they have to stay at-war until they get a solid victory or accomplish some goal worthy of them to stop -- or until you make it too costly for them to continue. Otherwise they might as well stay at war and pretend they're winning: where's their downside?
Generally you ought to be ahead in morale, but if the game tracks that sort of thing it may also affect morale based on other factors aside from any war going on; which could mean that you really might not be ahead in morale after all (taking all those factors into account). Or even if you are ahead in morale right now, a protracted peaceful war (so to speak) may result in them coming out ahead in morale in the long run. You might have to successfully counter-aggress something to convince them to quit. Or that might convince them to keep going.
Or I might be charitably rationalizing some poor or broken game design. :-\
Wine?
I dont' think it's broken. It sounds like what happens to me in every game of Alpha Centauri, Civilization, Europa Universalis, (insert name of 4x game here)... ::)

Bbmike, what's your avatar from? 'Timetunnel'?
Yeah, I was (still am?) a big Irwin Allen junkie back in the early days. Time Tunnel and Land of the Giants were my favorites. :)
^^ I WONDERED IF THAT'S WHAT IT WAS!
Never watched the series, but one of my favorite books growing up was either a novelization of it or the novel it was based on.
OK.. I offer peace to UK again (figuring they'll turn me down again). I also offer peace to the Ottomans (whom I was gonna go lay some whoop ass on if the UK accepted before).. Well, they both accepted :( .... I'm not at war with anyone!.. This is no fun, now I have to learn how to sell wine!
did someone say wine?
i have wine, get your wine here, many bargains
and opium, and im europes premier importer of coffee however its not one of my objectives, but still, coffee expert
U'geek, at some point you should be punching the utter hell out of your cultural improvements, seeing as how you don't have to deal with military problems and can focus on investing your money in investments.
once unification comes round i can see that, but at the moment im a fraction of the size of the other 2, my private income is pi** poor, i have managed to level it out some after getting carried away with research and getting pummelled by SDRs economic collapse - its a very slow attempt to industrialise the area, but i can afford a new factory every ten turns where i think the big guys could do it every turn if required
I haven't built anything in two years. Every penny I take in, I dump straight into the army replacement pool. My armies are almost gone all due to the retarded attrition rules that I have to follow but the AI rebels don't. I guess I'm misunderstanding how supply works. I am within two regions of two different supply depots. Both have 100+ supplies in stock. I have two supply wagons with all armies and if one runs out of supply, I send it back to a depot with a cavalry unit as guard. I built up road networks in all the provinces around and in Khiva. It shouldn't be this hard to stay in supply and knock out a bunch of irregular cavalry.
I suspect I'm going to lose the capital next turn as you can see by the strength numbers of the various unit cards in the screen shot below.

I thought the last bar was Supply... So when looking from afar, there is three bars.. Cohesion Health Supply.. in the Unit Panel two bars. Cohesion Supply?
Ugh.. I'm so mixed up on what the Bars mean!
...coffee bars? :D
The two unit bars are cohesion and strength.
Pretty sure the first bar is cohesion and the second is manpower.

After loading up my current game it appears you are correct! :)
hmm how come Mike and Jason didn't join us in our game?
hmm my Son is looking at it this morning, I think he's going to start a game as Prussia (he's a Paradox head), but he keeps looking over my shoulder when I do turns for our game.. lol.. when I first had the music turned on, he kept asking if I was playing Vicky2.

Ha! It's happened a few times where friends/family have gotten hooked on a game watching me play it. Never gets old for me. ;D

LOL. There's a quotable quote right there.
Well I'm at Peace and I don't like that. I have a Cassus Belli for Moroco, so maybe they will be next. First I need to repair my Merchants that were badly damaged in the war with UK. Then I can start selling UCG's wine on the open seas and fund my next war!
I was busy with other games and didn't have this one patched up enough at the time.
Besides, I'm enjoying living vicariously.
Looks like the economic crisis is over, so that's something at least.
lol, yeah thanks for that!
Cringe in fear! Russia has harnessed the power of the Glover tower! (I have no idea what that is. Something to do with more efficient lead smelting apparently. FEAR ME!)
LOL!
I take it you're still making at least some progress then?
Not at all. The 18,000 man Khivan army of immortals are still running around in the desert. They've already killed 100,000 of my men. I must have triggered some ancient AI curse for they magically replenish to full strength after every battle. Oh well, at least I can more efficiently smelt lead so the lead lined coffins my army requires will be cheaper to produce.
Good news - I'm building prada and bulgari luxury factories - fear my shoes and handbags
Bad news - just lost 3 trade posts to rebellion
Worse news - first unification trigger is 1860 - I think that's another 120 turns away
I'm just trying to replenish my troops (not enough Manpower), and rebuild my merchant fleets.. Thinking of declaring war on Morocco since i have a Cassus Belli on them.

This is why in my current game as the US I'm not starting any trouble with the Indians. After reading your accounts I'm afraid of undead Indian zombie armies!
Make sure you've got a lot of fast units, ridiculous amounts of supply wagons and a chain depots to support them, and make sure you completely surround the enemy before you take him on. If he can retreat, you're screwed because he'll just keep renewing himself while you wither away.
We had a major bug with the 1.04RC2 hotfix. The game tried to trigger the Caucasus rebellion for Russia but it would crash every time I tried to run the turn. I attempted to use both Tuna's and UCG's saves as my own to try and run the turn as Italy or France. This worked before when the turn wouldn't process but this time there was no luck.
I searched the forums and found that others had had this problem as Russia as well and it may be related to already having a rebellion in progress when the Caucasus uprising event triggers. At any rate, the "fix" is reverting back to v1.03e of the game so I've done so and it seems to be working again. (and I can now see unit cards and the census screen! Damn, those Finns are pissed at me for some reason!)
Anyway, I now have a new czar. Not too sure what happened to the old one but you know how these czars can be...
(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv320%2Fbogaty%2FPONnewczar_zps17136043.jpg%7Eoriginal&hash=fee443b2952d4fd1ce6496fa8c5067106a9dd502)
I was also able to lay down a pretty good beating on the Khivans for once. Not enough to wipe them out so they're back at full strength again but it was enough to give me a bit of a breather so I could reinforce some of my losses and also recruit a cavalry corps. Hopefully they'll not only have the strength to take on the Khivan army but also the speed needed to keep up with them should they try to retreat.
Hmmmm....I got the red fonted text message and accompanying newspaper telling my my Czar had died the turn after the new Czar was crowned. I knew my country was backward but this is ridiculous.

Yeah, those guys are just as Tsarry as the day is long (as we say here in West TN).
Huh. Kinda expected more updates from the extended weekend than that. Hope the bug hasn't been too bad (either for the game or on humans! -- lots of head colds going around.)
I had to work nights all weekend and have another couple O/T shifts tonight and tomorrow so I've only been able to process & email a turn a day.
hmm should I downgrade too? What did you have to do, install fresh and only go to 0.3
I just downloaded the 1.03e patch and installed it directly to the game folder. Seems to work fine so far.
A new beta patch (1.04 RC3) was released today. I'm going to upgrade and see how it goes.
http://www.ageod-forum.com/showthread.php?38402-PON-1-04-public-beta-patch (http://www.ageod-forum.com/showthread.php?38402-PON-1-04-public-beta-patch)
EDIT: The installer is really slow. It seems like it's doing nothing for about 5-6 minutes before it actually starts up so if you install it, just wait it out and it'll work.
2nd EDIT: The unit art work is still not displaying. (UCG, Tuna. Don't install it as it breaks our current game.)
No worries - I'm surprised were allowed to play different versions to this point but cool ill leave it as it is
S-P currently has a missionary and a tradepost from just south of egypt all the way round the coast of africa to mombassa - the highest conquest percentage with these I can reach is 35 percent but it outstrips my competitors in this region, namely prussia and the ottamans
I have an opium farm and coffee farm in ethiopia but can't man them without taking the provinces - although I'm wondering if I set up commercial agreements it will open the way, something to try
Have found out if I keep private capital above 1400 traders bring in all kinds of exotic goodies to boost the economy - in the next 6 months ill also open 3 more luxury good factories so that's more money, and the north of the boot fully industrialised - just waiting for the unification stuff to fire
See? I said you were probably winning. :) WAR! -- WHAT IS IT GOOD FOR? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, HUH, SING IT AGAIN I SAID...
Good news! I posted a rant about the immortal Khivan army on the AGEOD forum and Pocus, their developer replied that this indeed was a mistake and tribal armies should never regenerate like this. The only forces meant to do this are the rabble during a rebellion.
Phew. .when will it be fixed? When will we start up again?
Edit: Nevermind.. see I just got a new turn.
I'm amazed and grateful that the new life on Steam has come with needed patches and dev support!
Changelog is up
Patch 1.04 RC3

Leaders will only lose seniority on January 1st and July 1st, this should help for promotion potential.
Neutral Tribal are now passive, should stop them from besieging or interfering others units.
There is a 25% chance that artillery manages to counter fire enemy artillery instead of firing on a frontline element.
Evasion value for stacks with leaders was erroneous in some cases
Impossible retreat because of too strong enemy in combat region fixed.
Besieged group can't escape besiegers with evade roll.
Hidden activation feature implementation slightly improved.
Naval resupply from special sea zones can be reduced by enemy ships.
Troops under river move are much much easier to hit now.
You can't use units under construction to build a depot.
Land Stacks residing in an harbor only will be expelled (can happens if fort is destroyed)
Development level reduction done by regional decisions was not working.
Messages on decisions with tests and conditions reworked so they are easier to understand when not successful.
Ability sending command points modifier to subordinate stacks had a bug resulting in double modifiers sometime.

Weather will be more variable depending of the grand weather zones.
Neutral units can't pillage your regions.
Strategic redeployment now requires a continuous rail line from start to end. In addition, if your redeploy outside the theater (filter 6) you pay 10% of the weight (minimum 1) from wear and tear in rail pool.
XP kept when training decreased from 50% to 10%, to prevent veteran militia becoming elite regular infantry.

Titles of historical options can now display in two lines.
Units under construction appear fixed in the appropriate warmap filter or with the ctrl-F1 filter.
Combat power for friendly units is no more aggregated in a single value.
Shift key can now be used both for lands and waters regions, allows seeing the links between regions.

Dislikes much more to be trapped in cities
AI assaults more frequently besieged structures
Admirals are more often send to secondary's fleets
AI faster in sending ships in naval special boxes. (to combine with extra ships attributes)
AI better at shuffling around supply wagons and services units.
AI has been improved on sending supply wagons and artilleries.
AI has been improved on resupplying algorithm.
AI less prone to stay within a structure, if in (at least) partial superiority.
AI will be more vigilant in defending its capital.
High ranked leaders will be much more reluctant to command small forces.
Idle leaders in enemy land will seek to get back to 'headquarter region'.
Transports will have a quite low buying priority if the AI is bested in naval power and situation is not great.
AI will get a slightly higher bonus for railroad autorepair (which is based on the development level of the region)
AI will defend the capital city more easily if threatened
Recon&Raid max distance from 5 to 2 regions
Optimized slightly AI recruitments
Modding / Script engine
Console can reliably be put back at the forefront
A log appears in the splash screen while you parse a script. Useful to see where you are in the parsing process. Plus, it looks cool! The periodicity of this log is controlled by sysScriptMemoPeriodicity in system.opt.
Regional decisions: Condition on number and type of units can now have a range greater than 1 (max is now capped to 6, but this is very CPU intensive, use with caution).
Added an extra field for decisions: NeedThisStrucAttribAdjSelf. Used in CW2 to tweak mines and sub decision.
Added 4 scripting commands (re)Store faction/region. See wiki for details.
Added parameters Group and NoSelectorUpd to SelectSubUnits command. See wiki for details.
Map aleas now support scripted events.
So are the "immortal" tribal armies fixed then? It's hard to tell from reading the changelog.
I don't think so. Pocus said he's still working on fixing the missing unit card graphics and he also said this concerning tribals:
QuoteWell this is probably an oversight, tribals were not meant to recover men anywhere under any condition. I have added a simple one, they need 25% MC at least. This will help rationalize things.
The way I read this is that if a tribal army is forced to retreat into an area where they have less than 25% military control, they will disappear. I don't see anything about this in the changelog so I'm not sure if it was included. Our current PBEM game is not using the new patch because it breaks our game.
Is this an AAR or a bug repository?
Not sure what's up right now. Just waiting for the next turn. It might be slow over the holidays.
ive sent in................ i think
let me check outbox
edit - sent again just in case
We're back on.
Absolutely nothing's changed for Russia. It's now January 1856 and everything's on hold while I chase down the last of the Khivan army. I've managed to kill off a few sub-units in their army (if you wipe out a sub-unit entirely, it won't regenerate) but they're hiding out in the snowy mountains now so I'll have to wait until spring before I get after them again.
Russia's top minds have perfected oleochemical synthesis! That's right you bastards, Russia now has soap! Begin your fawning adulation now.
Does that mean you won't be dirty Commies someday after all? ^-^
Hahaha!
By the way, I'm not entirely clear: Are you guys playing with a newer patch now, or did you end up having to roll back because of issues with the new update?
We're all running 1.03e right now, I think. The newest patch isn't compatible with saved games from previous versions.
What do you know? Two years to the day since Russia's last economic crisis and the game hits me with another one! (two years being the minimum amount of time the game allows between crises) Yay, zero private capital and 23% inflation. Don't worry France and Sardinia, I'm sure it won't affect you this time.....*snicker*
Aw cmonnnnnnnn I just got the economy straight!!
In czarist Russia, economy inflates YOU!!
(Yeah, I know it was lame, but I couldn't help myself. :P )
lol, 1000s of italian handbags down the drain!!
In tsarist Russia, economy handbags you?
Russian mafia will put you in a handbag.
A new patch is being worked on and might be ready for this weekend. (It's a race. Will the patch come before UCG stops space trucking for 5 minutes and sends his next turn? Tune in to find out!)
Hey chaps, shit shifts this week, I'll be on it tomorrow night for a six turn flurry
Thank Russian Christ. After 5 years of chasing this idiot around, I've finally managed to drive the Khivan Emir's army out of both Khiva and Russian territory. He's now lurking around in Kokand but at least he's been weakened enough that I don't think he'll come back.
(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv320%2Fbogaty%2FPONwhatever_zpsdcd00fd3.jpg%7Eoriginal&hash=33f2ad6b1df326a55fec1991cc0c9e08a74d583e)
I can finally get back to worrying about the rest of the nation which has been slowly falling apart while I concentrated all of Russia's wealth on prosecuting this war.
^ He left his horse behind. ;D
You owe Sardinia so much money in lost handbag revenue
The Emir of Khiva said he's good for it. You should go see him. I hear he's a pushover.
If he has horses I'm screwed.... The Sardinian balloon battalion only operate at 350m above aground
Whence you can drop bombs on his horses with total impunity.
The goblins nearly wiped out one of my cav squads that way over in my AAR this mission, so I know whereof I speak. :buck2:

Guys, Pocus has posted the new beta patch (http://www.ageod-forum.com/showthread.php?38402-PON-1-04-public-beta-patch-RC4-updated-Jan24-2015)!
Cool! I hope this one is compatible with our saves but I'm not optimistic as the last one wasn't. We shall see though. Hopefully it will not destroy the game. I had to clean the registry and reinstall v1.03e last time in order to get things working again.
As I suspected, no luck with the new patch and our PBEM progess.
arse - does it corrupt the files?
If I try to load any of our saves I get a pop-up window that says "Sorry! A critical error has occurred. something-something-something contact AGEOD support." Then the game hangs for a minute or so and dumps back to the desktop.
balls - never mind i suppose, we seem to be doing ok
barring the odd russian economic meltdown
The meltdown could be resolved faster if those shiftless Eye-ties were to send a turn in. (And if I can revert the game back to 1.03)
The good news is that I was able to roll back to v1.03e and we can continue the game. The bad news is that all the nice fixes to events in 1.04 are gone so we'll end up with more messages like the first one on this list. I know something bad is about to happen in the Caucasus. I just don't know what.
(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv320%2Fbogaty%2FPON%2520again_zpsep1xab7s.jpg%7Eoriginal&hash=dfe5dc11cd1284e4391b79c1c5ee7942ee85795e)
i have handbags to make!!!
and i never get garbled messages like that - maybe its a russian thing
Huh, the more things change the more they don't: Yemeni pirates threatening the Red Sea and Gulf of Oman again.
^ Heh.
How's the new patch going? It feels like the game may be stalling due to patch issue/compatibility.
Can't play with the new patch as it doesn't work with our PBEM game.
There's supposed to be a hotfix coming out any day now that cleans up some issues with fort garrisons mobilizing even when no enemies are around.
(UCG, you alive?)
Incoming today - I'm moving house tomorrow but telecoms had switched service off early - back on now to send turn and off again tonight - should be straight back on at new place
A new patch today. 1.04 RC5 is now online. :)
I didn't expect the newest update to work with our PBEM saved game but it seems to be working. At least I'm not getting the instant crash that I was with the previous 1.04 updates.
So, do we want to try running the updated version?
Sure, do you have link for the patch?
Sorry boys I'm still alive - was all set to go today but forgot steam needed to be online - turn on its way tomorrow

It takes a long time for the installer to indicate that it's doing anything so just sit back and let it do its thing rather than backing out. I think it was 7-8 minutes before I saw any indication that anything was happening in the install window.
Yay, they fixed the buttons on the production page! O0
They've fixed some of the events as well.
Now this happened. Stupid game. Making me look stuff up and learn things....

He looks like someone who likes expensive handbags. >:D
right, so ive landed 500 deadly balloon troops in Tripoli - theyve taken the depot and the 'base' there - i have ordered the building of a fortress - do my guys automatically supply themselves? do i need to ship in more supplies? how do i see what the supply situation is?
When they start dying off from starvation, you'll know you're out of supply.
Hover the mouse over the province and it should show you your supply stockpile and consumption rate.
Click on the supply filter for the map and you'll see where your main supply points are and if Tripoli is in range.
If it's not, build a depot and throw a merchant fleet in the Med.
I'm busy dealing with drooling mobs of rebellious Belorussian rabble. Pesky little buggers. Didn't put up anywhere near the fight that those damned Khivans did. Their army of undead is now hanging out just across the border in Samarkand.
a depot came with the base and i captured 18 wagons as well - hopefully thats good, and it means the army of defenders is now trapped in the desert - is there a way to avoid attrittion or do i just boost the numbers in the recruitment screen?
hmmm, supplies are ok but for some reason the game moved my army out of tripoli, into Tunas territory and now wont let me back into tripoli, at which point i guarantee the rebels will reattack tripoli take it back and leave me without supplies - cant imagine why it moved me - do you need to enter the buildings on arrival at a province?
balls - having mastered the handbag industry, i have no idea what to do in combat!

LOL. Quote of the week right there!
Can't the handbags be used as weapons? My wife's can. That's why she lets me carry it, in case we're attacked.
THEY ARE A WEAPON OF INTIMIDATION!
"These handbags, were once enemies of ours.
"These smaller coin purses... they came from our enemies."
ah well this is quite embarassing, apparently kicking out the rebels who owned the priovince only made it revert back to ottoman ownership, and im not at war with them, hence i got moved out of the neutral territory - oops
Should have improved your standing with the Ottomans, though?
Damned Chechens are rebelling again. The whole Caucasus area is a sea of rebel armies.
On a side note, Yahoo email security informed me that our constant email exchanges of orders and turn files are "suspicious". Wonder if they think I'm the next Nigerian prince?
Desperate to fight someone my second balloon company is sailing round Africa to come up the East Coast and cause some trouble in rebel territory
I have a cassus belli against Austria - the first motions in the move of independence - I can attack and risk slaughter - historically France marched thru Sardinia and kicked their ass - I need to speak to tuna
Economy is booming and I'm quite the dealer in handbags, drugs and wine - occasionally traders will get me gold or gems and I can please the upper classes with luxuries
I just need unification to open the other options in the game
DEAREST YOURS IN CHRIST, BELOVED!
I HOPE AND PRAY YOU ARE A TRUSTWORTHY PERSON. I AM THE WIFE OF A FINANCE MINISTER OF AN EAST AFRICAN NATION, WHICH I CANNOT NAME AT THIS TIME FOR SAKE OF SECURITY. RECENTLY OUR ECONOMY AND POPULATION WERE THROWN INTO PANIC AND SHAMBLES BY THE APPEARANCE OF A FLEET OF GREAT COLORFUL BAGS IN THE SKY FROM WHICH RIFLE FIRE OCCASIONALLY FELL. THIS DEMONIC INCURSION HAS CONVINCED MY HUSBAND THAT WE SHOULD MOVE TO A TRULY FREE AND MODERN NATION, BUT WE NEED YOUR HELP. HE WISHES TO USE A TRUSTWORTHY BANK ACCOUNT TO PLACE A LARGE SUM OF MONEY FOR A FEW YEARS WHERE NO ONE CAN NO NO OH GOD THE THINGS IN THE SKY HAVE COME HERE AAAH AAAAAAAHHH
lmao - awesome
Lol, let me get my armies back up to snuff before dragging me into a war. Still hurting from UK war! Every turn is just trying to replenish troops. War is fun, in between, not so much.
There's an in-between?
I've been fighting constantly. If it's not the Khivans then it's the Chechens. If it's not the Chechens then it's the Turks. God-damned Mussulmen.
I don't understand this game at all.. in the beginning none of my merchants showed any wear and tear at all, and I thought something was wrong. Now they all turn red immediately in the trade boxes.. And bringing them home, none of them are repairing at all.. I don't know if a patch screwed something up or what, but you just can't get ahead in this game!
Are you at war with anyone? Have your merchant ships been upgraded to steam? I think you need to be in range of a coaling station once you get bumped up to steam.
I'm not at war with anyone. It's not the supplies that are getting hit it's the ships themselves.. all the units are turning red.. i guess I should try and figure out if it's ships or men. At one point they were getting fixed in port.. but now they do not seem to be. Replenishments page is confusing, because there really isn't a 'merchant' ships icon.. closest thing is transports and I don't think that helps (think it's more for troop transports).
They did fix the merchant ship bug in 1.02. I wonder if it's come back with the new patch.
Don't know, I didn't have the issue early game.. Reading the manual it does look like Transport replacements do it, even in the 'trade box'.. so I just tried getting more in my last turn.
I saw something about a Casus Belli between Sardinia and Austria. Is that happening, balloon boy?
I have the CB I just need my garlic munching neighbour to back me up
Can I fix my merchant problem first? War cost money!!!
Lol of course - let me know when you're ready - my troops are still in Africa at mo anyway
I'm not sure how it will start, do we have to do a treaty? I mean our current one only goes into affect if you are attacked correct?
Good point - I'm sure with the current set of treaties you'll be offered a CB if I move
I still have a defensive treaty with the cabbage eaters. This could be....interesting.
Waaagh? O:-)
In pre-Soviet Russia, cabbage eats cargo cults.
The leader of Sardinia-Piedmont seems to have become enamoured with Ukrainian babushkas and/or rocket launchers and has been neglecting his duties for quite some time. :knuppel2:

Lol!
S***, are we waiting for me?
I didn't see the turn come in - I'm on it, there are Austrians to invade!
It takes a while for those balloons to find the right jet streams to get back to... uh... Morocco.
"That's MONACO, DAD!" {/Simpsonsref}
Was there a Steam update or somesuch? Your last savegame turn is not inputting properly and the game is trying to revert you back to AI control.
sent again - try now
yesterday i removed the ~ from the savegame name and replaced it with _
these were the only circumstances that would let the turn send, ive changed it back to ~ and now the ISP has decided its ok
:tickedoff:
Maybe there was an extra hidden space involved somewhere by accident?
When Mom's file work acts weird, I often find that's a problem: she put an extra space in, and the non-monospace font she uses made it even less obvious.

Sorry about pinging you today, didn't see this first.
its cool - dont worry - my fault for not seeing it
I tried adding the tilde instead of the underscore on the old save file as well. Neither one works.
I tried reverting to an old save and re-running the previous turn again to see if I could then load this save in. That didn't work either.
Then I tried reverting the game back to v1.03 because that worked in the past but not this time.
I have no idea what's happened between the last turn and this one to cause your save not to work any more UCG. Tuna's saves still work as do mine and I haven't updated or done anything to my version of the game.
The only thing I can think to try now is to send the host file to one of you and see if you can successfully load everyone's save and process the turn.
ill rerun the turn and make a new save
I think we're screwed at least until Steam patches to the latest version.
Yeah - I've tried everything with the save files you sent, nothing happening
Has there been a recent change you and tuna switched to?
No, nothing has changed. That's why I was wondering if something bad been updated or changed with the Steam version.
theres no steam update or nothing on the forums to suggest a change or a similar problem
do you want to roll back a turn and see if it rights itself?
Any luck?
think so - rewound one turn and sent back to SDR - i think were good
It took some fiddling but I think we're up and running again. For whatever reason, UCG's saves have begun to randomly change things in the file name. Sometimes it changes the ~ to a -. Other times it adds a + into blank spaces. When the trouble first started, I tried changing the single, visibly changed character back to what it should be but that didn't work. What does appear to work is if I simply rename the entire file to the syntax my game wants and then it loads without issue.
Too bad I didn't discover that before we rolled back. I'd managed to stomp out the Khivan rebellion in that save. The random rolls didn't go my way this time around and the little buggers are still running around the steppes burning my peasants.
Anyway, the turns are out. Very interesting development this turn. Tuna, are you going to take that sort of thing from UCG lying down? I wouldn't stand for it. It's an insult to France. To arms!!!!
oh fk what did i do?
Wrong color wine with the wrong color of cheese. Deadly insult.

Same thing every turn.. tons of 0 strength merchants ain't getting anywhere! And the Italians are trying to wack my leader!
Wrong Italy. ;) Ugeek is Piedmont, a peaceful purveyor of pocketbooks and... uh... wine and cheese starting with p.
(And opium.)

ha good call, and its also a speedy reminer that Tuna needs to get his armies together and come and whack Austria, although im sure they just won the 'biggest army in the game' award this turn
ahem

thatll be 300, 000 Tuna
i waiting
Three hundred thousand troops == a substantial force. :o
Nice! So is that one of those automatic events, or is it one that you can trigger given the right set of circumstances?
AFAIK this is a historic notification, it hasnt triggered Tuna giving me any troops, it hasnt triggered a war with Austria, its just notifying me that its time - historically - to kick Austrias ass for a few territories on our French border
whats not historic is Tunas clash with england leaving him short of troops and not ready for this i think
this still leaves S-P in the lowly leagues of minor factions, theres still not much i can do after 206 turns until i can unify, and that wont happen without taking those 3 territories mentioned in the newspaper
Gotcha. Sounds like a bit of a Catch-22 you're stuck in...
Since we are only playing like one turn a week, it's probably time to call it quits on this game. :'(
im freer from now on - but if you guys want to call it a day i understand
We've only been able to get in a turn every 5-6 days for quite a while now. At that rate, the game won't end for another 30 years.
We started in September 2014 and we haven't made it through the first decade yet. I think it's time to put this one to bed.
:'(
ill put my hand up and claim responsibility - sorry chaps, when i had a job sat at a PC when we started i could fire out the turns, im hardly in anymore
No need to apologize for anything UCG. In a game as long as this, someone's real life is going to get in the way at times and that always takes precedence. This is just a game after all.
(Besides, I had the most prestige out of the three of us so in true Russian fashion I am declaring this the penultimate victory in all of human achievement. Hooray for me!)
in an entirely non gay way i claim the title of Lord of Handbags and Really Nice Shoes
You guys did good to play as long as you did. O0
its very noble of SDR to say what he has but it was my fault - i think if we could have kept a turn a day at least going we would have churned through the campaign - its very difficult to keep things going with 5 day gaps and not remembering what you were doing
theres rumours of PrON 2 also

That would be awesome if said rumors ever prove to be true. If they could could make a sequel that was a bit less byzantine and (especially) cut down on the long turn-processing times, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
