Videos of attack are on liveleak.
Bloody cowards. The ongoing trend at suppressing journalists is horrific.
What a horrific act and of course these bastards are always brave enough to attack middle aged folks in the Western world. I dont know what the answer is but it starts by having Muslims do more than denounce these acts in the name of their religion. Wont write anymore since that is a topic for another thread.

The answer may lie in that sentence.
Compounding the issue is that apparently the cops over there were unarmed, too.
QuoteSeveral Paris police officers who came into contact with the armed terrorists who slaughtered 10 journalists at the headquarters of Charlie Hebdo, a satirical magazine, retreated from the gunmen because they were unarmed, according to an eyewitness.

I modified my post since I dont want to make this an argument about whether guns would have or could have prevented this. My contention is that only Western Muslims can prevent these terror acts from occurring in the West not external security and police.

Once again all the press here in Canuckistan seems most concerned with is making sure no one thinks this is in any way related to Islam, just a few isolated extremists. Shame on you, dear viewer for even harbouring such unworthy thoughts in the first place.
The religion of peace strikes again.
Im still good with the nuclear option.
I'm not sure the people of Paris would really welcome a nuke in the 18th arrondissement. Maybe an FAE.
Well, considering the religious twits would rather get more in an uproar over that Lebanese porno girl in Florida (Star, get her number, stat) wearing the Muslim hoodie (hijab) while blowing a guy, than you know, actually solving the extremist idiocy in their religion...things ain't going to get solved anytime soon.
I think people are, by now, getting tired of the bullshite the mainstream media keeps shoveling every time something like this happens.

I agree, this isn't the place for it. Sorry.
If we were to really act in solidarity then all the news organizations with balls would print the cartoon on their front page that these terrorists were using as a twisted rationale to perpetrate this massacre. We should all go Lenny Bruce on them and spread it so far and wide that their actions have the opposite effect of fear and repression

Edit: I absolutely DO NOT like that the above site says these cartoons "may have caused" the Paris shooting. Those cartoons did not cause the shootings - it was the ignorant assholes pulling the triggers that did.
There seems to be a lot of talk about freedom of speech over this. This is not about freedom of speech, it is about radical, religious nuts.

Younger than that if the Hadith's are to be believed... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aisha - married at 9 or 10. It's hardly surprising that we had the paedophile muslim gangs in the UK with that example.... Under our current laws in the West, if this guy was alive today he'd be doing time for molesting Aisha.
A sad state of affairs that muslims turn a blind eye to this (and a host of other dubious issues) for a "Holy man". The problem in large part is "submission" rather than thought and rationality, which only flourishes where there is criticism. By silencing criticism, and indoctrinating young people (a Libyan acquaintance of mine used to play religious tapes to her son when he went to bed.... :-\) you create a very one dimensional, and shallow understanding of the religion. Of course that makes people very easy to manipulate...
It's not wholly a muslim thing either - the Catholic Church, and some of the Protestant ones too used their influence to kill "heretics" back in the day. It begs the question of what it is all about - if you have an Almighty God, I can't see how He needs man to intercede on His behalf - the very act of man acting as God's agent endorses the view that God is powerless without man to do His dirty work, so undermining the view of an omnipotent God. For many religions the suggestion that God is not all powerful is blasphemy in itself, yet we see fanatics act "in the name of God", which in turn is a blasphemous act! Of course, if you are agnostic/atheist that argument is academic, but it does raise the issue of religious terrorism to cow independent thought against the Orthodoxy. Either way it amounts to oppression. :(

The authorities should check out who is bankrolling/organising these guys, and go after them. BTW, this is just the tip of the iceberg - Sauron who lives in France has told me about many rapes and murders of French nationals by "Maghrebians", and other Islamic immigrants. Apparently the same state of affairs is common to Sweden, which has around 10% of its population as Middle Eastern immigrants. Sweden apparently is now the rape capital of Europe, with France not far behind. Where these countries have gone wrong is in adopting a multi-cultural society rather than integrating immigrants into the community, which is a less divisive way to go.
Gus made a good point about the necessity of doing something, but with the caveat that in doing so we may become animals ourselves. Clearly he is a student of Nietzsche ;) ...
"
Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you."
we didnt become "animals" after WW2 and a WW2 style ass kicking is whats needed here.
^That said it does warm my heart that France has deployed ~80,000 police and gendarmes to find these animals and do what they must. I've noticed too that the French Army is not involved...or at least it appears like they are not involved. Only civil forces. If that's correct is that because the French Army cannot deploy within France? Or did I just miss it and they are involved in the search too?

La Gendarmerie nationale is a branch of the military that also cover military policing, but they also are like Mounties (RCMP or Gendarmarie royal du Canada) in that they also can do municipal policing in areas that do not have municipal police. They also have specialized anti-terror "SWAT" teams.

French police were confronting two separate -- but apparently related -- hostage situations Friday, after a jihadist couple suspected of killing a cop a day earlier stormed a Paris deli, killing two and taking as many as five prisoners even as the suspects Wednesday's massacre at a Paris satirical magazine were holed up in a printing plant 25 miles north of the city, authorities said.
The hostage taken in the second case, at a kosher grocery store in eastern Paris, were identified by police as Amedy Coulibaly and Hayat Boumeddiene, a couple suspected in the murder Thursday of Paris Police Officer Clarissa Jean-Philippe as she attended to a routine traffic accident in the city. Authorities believe the case is related to Wednesday's attack, which 12 people, including two cops, dead at the publication Charlie Hebdo, which has angered Muslim radicals by publishing images of Prophet Muhammed.
Authorities feared all four suspects are bent on going out as martyrs, and potentially killing hostages and police officers in the process.

Yes, echoing what jomni said above, it wasn't all that long ago that Europeans tried to exterminate an entire people group because they didn't like their business practices. The moderate Muslim community should realize that it's not impossible for that to happen again, especially if there is a legitimate and constant threat from the extremists.

There is something of a parallel between a worldwide general despising of Judaism in the early 20th century and today's worldwide general despising of the Muslim religion...despite the efforts of the crazy media trying to tell you there's nothing to see here, move along.
I seriously doubt any country, let alone group of countries, will devolve into rounding up Muslims and sending them to gas chambers. And if they did, I doubt that would do anything but create more extremists and make the fight much bloodier than the Holocaust ever was.

Anonymous is joining the fight. They will hack and take down terrorist websites and social media accounts.

This article discusses how the mainstream political parties in France are pretending that Islamic radicals are not behind this terror attack.
It also suggests that the far right wing political parties have the most to gain by simply speaking the truth about who was behind it.
There's something to be said about addressing the truth as it is, rather than how one thinks it might, maybe, possibly, could be.
What's the expression? "Consider what we think, what we know, and what we can prove." What happens when what you know disproves what you think, but you choose to ignore it?
There's a lesson in there somewhere...
Quote"Of all political parties, the Front National stands to gain most from this atrocity," the Bloomberg story goes on to quote French studies professor as saying. "Public agreement with the FN's ideas has been rising steadily and this event will play into the party's anti-immigration, anti-Islam agenda."
Maybe that would not be true if "mainstream leaders" did not pretend that attacks by people shouting "Allah Akbar!" could have just as easily been carried out by a team of Zen Buddhists and disenchanted Unitarians.

Eventually something will happen because it has too. Two theories of society cannot co-exist when one theory does not recognize the right of the other to exist.

Stephen Pollard, editor of the Jewish Chronicle, spoke out after an Islamic terrorist took six people hostage and held them captive in a Kosher supermarket in the French capital.
This afternoon police ordered all shops in a famous Jewish neighborhood in central Paris to close.

I think the political correctness wave in regard to islamic terrorism is akin to treating an addiction. You're not going to get better until you admit you have a problem. All the horse$hit from the left glossing over islamic terror simply plays into their own agenda while making people of their political bent feel better about themselves. One guy from a Christian religion shooting an abortion doctor is terrorism, hundreds of acts of murder by the peaceful religion of Islam is swept under the rug by the media and leftist politicians and rebranded as anything other than the despicable acts of religious fanatics.
Well the Grand Synagogue of Paris is closed for the Sabbath for the first time since the Nazi's took control of Paris. That just let's you know how messed up this whole thing is really. The French have ceded whole neighborhoods to Islamic control. It's a very sad state of affairs and speaks volumes about the effects of the failures of multiculturalism when immigrants do not adopt and adapt to the cultures they move into.
http://www.jpost.com/International/Landmark-Paris-synagogue-closes-on-Shabbat-for-first-time-since-World-War-II-387262
That's crazy. If France was in a neighborhood like Israel's they would have driven themselves into the sea in a month.
We are at a point of more than a decade of sustained, if intermitent attacks. All major western nations have been hit. Even if it is a minority of extremists, they are able to present it to their next generation of youth as within the teachings of islam.
This cannot continue. Either Islam has to change, rewriting their book, or they have to go.
I'm with BC. WTF? Why do the Jews have to close their shops? Give them an option, at least. And if something happens, I hope Parisian Jews can get their ducks in a row like the Koreans were able to do in LA during the Rodney King riots in 1992. Islamofascists want a war and want to go see their god? Let's untie peoples' hands and help them.

It is outrageous that Jews feel they need to emigrate from France. It's equally outrageous that there appears to be so little support for the Jewish community in the wake of these attacks.

Amazing to me to see the leaders of Germany and France like bling arms. Unthinkable 100 years ago, even 50. Gives one some hope for the future.
Now, THIS is interesting.
http://madworldnews.com/anonymous-declares-war-isis/
QuoteIn the wake of the brutal terrorist attack in Paris, the clandestine hacktivist group Anonymous has released a chilling video declaring war on the Islamic State and other radical groups, and according to reports, they've already claimed their first victim.
On Thursday, Anonymous posted a video to YouTube describing their latest campaign to avenge the attack on Charlie Hebdo, a French satire magazine, which they're calling #OpCharlieHebdo, according to the Mirror. The chilling video features a man in a Guy Fawkes mask speaking in French with his voice digitally obscured, explaining that members of Anonymous have decided to "declare war on you, the terrorists," specifically calling out the Islamic State and al-Qaeda.
Quote"We will track you down – every last one – and will kill you," the spokesman says. "You allowed yourselves to kill innocent people, we will therefore avenge their deaths."
The representative explains that members across the globe will work to track all activities of the jihadists online and close down their social media accounts on YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter.
"You will not impose your sharia law in our democracies," he continues. "We will not let your stupidity kill our liberties and our freedom of expression. We have warned you; expect your destruction."
The roughly minute-long video closes in the usual fashion of Anonymous by reminding their targets of just how far the group's reach is.
"We will track you everywhere on the planet, nowhere will you be safe. We are Anonymous," the video says. "We are legion. We do not forget. We do not forgive. Be afraid of us, Islamic State and al-Qaeda – you will get our vengeance."
QuoteAccording to Mashable, Anonymous hasn't wasted any time in enacting their vengeance. On Saturday, they had already claimed their first victim in #OpCharlieHebdo. A Twitter account bearing the same codename as their campaign tweeted an image of a website the group successfully shut down for a period of time.

Having Netanyahu and Abbas there on either side sends a strong signal as well.
Our Prez should have gone to Paris as well. Or at least sent Biden.
AG Holder was probably there already for that security conference so having him show up isn't showing much of an effort.
An impressive showing, by world leaders...especially the Palestinian. You'd have to think it is extremely dangerous for him to take part in that.
As for Anonymous...also equally impressive. I am still hoping that these attacks result in more and more anti-terror effort.
And as usual not having the US President there is idiotic. Anyone know what he was doing today instead?
How Anonymous selects targets makes me wonder sometimes. ISIS, and other terrorists have been around for years, and only now 'Anonymous' decide to go after them. I've got mixed feelings about them. I do wonder if it will turn out like the threat they pulled on the Mexican cartel a few years ago, and they backed off after the cartel threatened to come after them.
The French have had some questionable dealings recently and in the past, but that is a topic for another conversation.
Endfire, I also question Anonymous's motives. As you said, this isn't something new that just cropped up. I wonder where they will draw the line on 'radical' groups.
Also, you have to wonder is French intelligence and security agencies are asking the NSA to help with some data gathering.

Probably the most significant news story has been completely eclipsed by other stories, at least on my radar.
Last week the Egyptian president gave a significant speech to a bunch of imams attending a mosque, scolding them for not doing more to speak against Islamofacists:
QuoteEgyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has called for a "religious revolution," asking Muslim leaders to help in the fight against extremism.
In a speech celebrating the birthday of the Prophet Muḥammad, which coincided with New Year's Day, he said they had no time to lose.
"I say and repeat, again, that we are in need of a religious revolution. You imams are responsible before Allah. The entire world is waiting on you. The entire world is waiting for your word ... because the Islamic world is being torn, it is being destroyed, it is being lost. And it is being lost by our own hands," el-Sisi said.

Of course who knows where it ends, and I'm pretty sure the NSA or other security agencies would prefer them to stay out of the way.

QuoteCharlie Hebdo will publish a front page showing a caricature of the Prophet Mohammad holding a sign saying "Je suis Charlie" in its first edition since Islamist gunmen attacked the satirical newspaper.
With demand surging for the edition due on Wednesday, the weekly planned to print up to 3 million copies, dwarfing its usual run of 60,000, after newsagents reported that large numbers of customers around the country were placing orders.
France has drafted in thousands of extra police and soldiers to provide security after 17 people were killed in three days of violence that began when two Islamist gunmen burst into Charlie Hebdo's offices, opening fire in revenge for the paper's publication of satirical images of Mohammad in the past.
The paper said the front page of its Jan. 14 edition would display a tearful Mohammad with a sign saying "Je suis Charlie" (I am Charlie) below the headline: "Tout est pardonné" (All is forgiven).
The new edition of Charlie Hebdo, known for its satirical attacks on Islam and other religions, will include other cartoons featuring the Prophet Mohammad and also making fun of politicians and other religions, its lawyer said.

And this, as I understand it, is part of Bill Maher's point. Sure the majority of Muslims don't kill non-Muslims or join war with ISIS; but the majority of Muslims, world-wide, do sympathize (to a point, e.g. "the victims brought it upon themselves") with the actions of jihad-type terrorists.

I found a clip from the show Jejo refers to. Watch it and weep, I know I did.

At the end of the clip (last 30-40 seconds), the caller gets to the core. Note how fast the host shuts that discussion down.

I wish I had kept the article, but a couple of days ago I was reading how poorly the Muslim immigrants to France had adapted to being French, even those individuals who were born in France. Pretty much exactly the question you are raising.
much the same could be said for East Salinas, and vast swaths of California, Arizona, and Texas.

Let's say you're right. Just for the sake of argument :)
Doesn't it beg the question:
Why haven't other religious/cultural minorities (In Europe as a whole) blown up trains, assassinated (or attempted assassinations) of film directors, authors, cartoonists and/or simple random civilians, because their religious feeling were hurt? <BLEEP> <BLEEPING> <BLEEP>
Why is that?
wasnt Europe awash with terrorist groups during the 70s and 80s?

yes, but they were all quasi-socialist/politically-motivated twits

Absolutely
But was it a result of immigration?

Yeah, and most of those were populated by white Western uppermiddleclass neurotic young adults with mommy/daddy issues who were seeking some kind of primetime liebestod.

Take out the religious link and it sounds like the US. There are nut jobs everywhere. It just so happens thery are the type that link their actions with religion.
Take the shootings in the US for example. We always blame outliers of society that are generally shunned and bullied. Their feelings were hurt and they fight back.
Some Muslims feel (or brainwashed into thinking) they were ridiculed, oppressed and feel that they need to fight back.
It's just (the flawed) human nature.

I agree.
And given the appropriate political conditions (Nazi Germany for example)), you find enougth crazy christian (or else) people (and they found them in all the countries they were) who like to kill, torture etc.
The thing that sets these local IS-hole wannabes apart from the stereotypical school shooter types in the US (and in a few other places) is that for the non-religious western 'outlier' nutjobs there is no international network of manipulative daddy-surrogates with guns, money, and terrorism training camps who are just a chatroom away.
Exactly, and that's a big difference. What we do see starting to happen is lunatic suburban kids somehow latching on to Islamofascist propaganda, like that nutbar Chris Cornell in Ohio. A fusion of two lunatic camps, the outlier and the fascist.

Disgusting. That is the other part of the problem, they do not value life like normal people.
Historically (and biologically) speaking, the normal position is not to value human life much except where it immediately benefits a human, or a human's feelings, to do so (family, clan, etc.)
There is one main reason why Western Civilization has come to value human life per se as much as we do (so far as
that goes, which still isn't always very far) so that we think this is and
should be the norm. And it has taken us almost 2000 years to get as far as we have with that.
