So, is anybody looking forward to this title? From the various videos I have seen, it seems like it could be decent, but I am not sure how much I will enjoy a city builder like this. Tried to get into various versions of SimCity but never stuck too long, although I probably never gave it enough chances. Comes out on the 10th and you can pick up the standard version for about $21 right now at GMG, that is the tempting part....

it could be my first buy of 2015 - i watched the live feed from RPS and although the guy was hopeless it looks like a great game for when youre resting from mowing shit down

I was thinking the same as a change of pace....just wondering if enough to do to keep me interested. And price not too bad...
i was surprised by price too - looks like a winner
I put it in my wishlist. Too many games.
for sure buy for me. I'm in the minority I know, but I actually really enjoyed the previous Cities games.
For those that are considering, going with the standard version or the deluxe?
Hmmm. Yeah, I could be tempted. Dunno about any of the versions yet.
From what I see unless you have a desire to have some iconic buildings in your build lists, I don't really see any reason to upgrade to deluxe. Not to mention I suspect at some point they will be available as a DLC. I'm very excited to see how the community responds with modding especially since it's to have Steam Workshop functionality.
That makes sense...seems like standard would be a good start
I'm a sucker for these things, so I'll pick it up pending any issues revealed post-launch. I really want to like it, so don't want my relationship with it soured on the first date by irritations. I know lots of games recover from those sorts of problems, but I never can look at them in quite the same light after release-day bugs. So I'll hold off for a while...
The last dev diary...looks really nice, think I am going to pre-order...seems low risk for $21 and might be a nice little change of pace

Nah...I haven't really been burned that bad for anything I have pre ordered, usually turned out well enough to get my money's worth...I have probably got burned more by games I bought after they have been released (looking at you World in Flames)....if I can save good money and I would likely buy anyway around the release date, I'll go for it and take the risk.

I just ended up getting the standard version since I don't think I will care too much about the monuments and I am sure they will be cheap DLC at some point if I change my mind...it is basically an $8-$9 difference between the versions.
The Deluxe Edition:
Included in the Deluxe Edition are 5 In-game historical monuments from around the world, the games original soundtrack as well as a digital art book.
Five in-game items include:
•Statue of Liberty
•Eiffel Tower
•Brandenburg Gate
•Arc de Triomphe
•Grand central terminal
Original Soundtrack: This Original Soundtrack includes 14 unique tracks mixed from the ambient music of the game, allowing you to enjoy the wonderful music whenever you want.
Digital Art book: See the concepts behind the buildings! The book features 32 hand drawn concepts of the game various buildings and the story behind each.
I've pre-ordered as well. Looking forward to it. Looks like lots of stuff in the Steam Workshop already (so I read on the forums, can't see the Workshop myself yet). Also saw a thread about a tool for downloading height maps (http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?841086-Instant-Height-Maps). Sounds like it may need some tweaking, but should be a great addition to the game. Now we can all re-create our hometowns or current towns or anywhere O0
Just pre-ordered - why not ???
With this showing up on GMG VIP for $21 and Sid Meier's Starships for $11, I should have some good gaming next week.
Not a "Day One" purchase for me, but I suspect I'll end up getting it sooner or later. It does look pretty fun.
Anyone fire this up yet? Like I need another game but a "good" city builder would be nice.... ;)

Oh there's fires but they don't spread or not very fast. And crime but a small police force can keep it check. But there are no Earthquakes, tornadoes, giant robots etc that you can trigger on your city.
I fired it up briefly and two things stuck out...
- The location to build in...quite small (at least limited anyway)
- SLOW DOWN...I wanted to slow it down, but it was already on the slowest of 3 speeds. Pause works to help, but still...wanted slow slow
I'm off to play it a bit more

I've seen fire pop up on a number of streams of the game.
I see someone has already made a mod to remove chirpy from the game.
Well - played a bit more. The speed is a bit frenetic for me. Likely not bad for lots - but it does seem a bit like other Paradox titles (eg HoI, EUIV etc) where information is only just given and sinks in just before you get overloaded with more.
For example, you start with just a few things you can do...build roads, build low housing and commerce and industry...get that done, along with water, electricity and waste disposal and the money trickles in. As you reach different milestones, other services and buildings become available.
The "info overload" isn't quite as fast and hard as the titles I mention - but it does seem to be going on at a "ever so slightly too fast" mode for me. I would like another option or two to slow it down.
Overall, it seems standard fair akin to Sim City (take your pick which one...but I'm referring to 4 I think). It's all there seemingly...water, electricity, waste, sewage, education, healthcare, police, fire, city enhancements like parks.
There are "policies" which you can set city wide or by district (so split your city up into districts). I haven't delved much into them but they look like they might be cool.
I'm struggling to find out why residents are unhappy. I mean you have the usual fair of putting things around to help like healthcare and police as examples, but I've looked at the "happiness" tool and highlighted a building and I can't seem to understand why they aren't happy. Maybe it's just reflecting real life where some people are just never happy or satisfied.
One thing that struck me about this and took me back to my Sim City 4 days was I suck at city building. I'm so busy pleasing everyone, I run out of money and my planning is pretty poor. I'm always trying to squeeze things next to each other which always results in bad roads and bad pollution resulting in mass unhappiness and anarchy ;D
Very pretty game I thought and looks like all the options are there and possibly some other things not seen before (policies?). Whether it's all balanced and works, I don't know...time will tell.
I've given up on my second city and about to start on my third and try to make it nice and neat with big roads and space between everything so pollution stays away and everyone's happy (yeah....right!)
So far O0 O0 O0

I think that's what I like about these games: "
This time I'll..." and then it never quite works, so it's "
Next time I'll..."
Watching these posts carefully JD...Paypal may be about to take a hit
Next city is coming along nicely. I've managed to keep industry away from residential by putting commercial between. I also started with big roads with space between them.
I'm staying green for the mo with Wind Turbines, but they are costly per output and energy keeps being used rapidly...I wish people would stop recharging shit! :buck2:
Money is coming in, the fire department seem to be able to attend good enough, though the one way system I built needed some tweaking with "short cuts" between places to facilitate their work. Education is on the up and I might need a high school soon.
All in all, this one looks good. I was confident enough to save this one.
Also, the "small starting space I mentioned earlier when starting a game, you are offered the option of buying more land...so expansion is possible. I'm not sure what that mechanic is tied to though as my city was not much bigger (if at all even now) than my last one and I wasn't offered to purchase more land...but I'm sure all will become apparent.
Early doors - but I haven't seen anything to disappoint me yet.
Thanks fer the input JD..... my poor wallet..... :P

Business - I'm guessing here, but the buildings around there are commercial and industrial...so maybe an effect from pollution?
By the way - that little "tweet" thing isn't as annoying as I thought it would be personally. It just feeds some info back and actually kind of gives a bit of life to the area.
Some are innocuous and some are game related. For example, one said "Going on holiday and would like someone to water my plants" whilst another said "Thank goodness for then free fire alarms from the city - saved my bacon this morning" or something to that effect.
The first one gives a kind of nice, friendly sense to your city, the other shows a policy to give out Fire Alarms is working. I haven't noticed any being particularly repetitive - though again, it's early doors.
I played this until gone midnight last night (started about 8) and enjoyed every bit of it - so far.
Good to see that city design has not slipped into the dark pit of anatomical dirty bits. Yet. >:D

What's the best way to deal with garbage when you have a population of under 500 and haven't unlocked the dump? By the time my cities get to about 300, folks start moving out because the sewage is backing up.
[edit]Never mind. When I went back to my game I realized I never ran power to the sewage processing facility.
JD, how are you dealing with the speed issue? Does it still feel a bit too fast even on slowest setting? Or are you getting more used to it?

I've adapted. I pause a fair bit. But also, once you understand things, it's not a huge issue
Yeah, I find the slowest speed perfectly manageable, and only pause when unlocking something new. The other two are still too fast for my taste.

You might need the faster speeds it if you have finished expanding and just want to watch and earn money. Is there a lot to do aside from building?
I can say after playing that the game is worth a purchase and at its current price on VIP from GMG, it really is a no brainer.

aight. I was kind of holding short of fully recommending it because it's early days - but I have most definitely not been disappointed by any aspect of it.
Oh - and I mentioned earlier about the tweet thingy - it actually is somewhat repetitive - but I still don't mind it and don't envisage switching it off
The one thing I do tend to want to do is upgrade roads. But often just removing a road and putting a new one down (even of the same width...like a two way road to a one way dual lane road) seems to destroy the buildings either side.
I guess what I'm going to have to do is build other areas and close some places down to ease congestion. I did build a bus terminus and put stops in on two routes and that eased it somewhat.
Also - I'm unsure of the benefits of paths for pedestrians
I think I just need to learn not to pack everything in - leave gaps, no over crowding. but of course, that will affect your public services (you need more for a larger area)...
Great game. Huge thumbs up.

The tweet thing does not bother me, kind of a clever way to give you quick feedback on the things you do. I am a little surprised about how easy the game is to navigate and manage... it makes the game fun and relaxing. I have to say, maybe my low expectations, but so far the game has exceeded them for me.... far beyond what I expected. I've looked for something to complain about and have not found it.... recommended.

I heard on one Youtube review that upgrading a road will destroy the buildings around it, but the game will replace the buildings with new ones of the same type automatically.
I heard of issues with traffic piling up in one lane even though other lanes are free. Has anyone noticed that since I don't have the game? The developers are supposedly working on a patch to fix that.

I will post here now and again things I would like to see...
1. the road direction when in bus mode. Currently, if you go into public transport mode the map goes white and you can't tell the direction of the roads. So if you've got one way system and forget where they are, it plays havoc with the position of your bus stops because the only time you know about it is your bus route doing an extra long loop. And the trouble is, by that time, you might be committed to a route (have lots od stops) and not want to go down the one way.
2. It's quite difficult (fiddly) to modify bus routes when they "overlap" or run along the same road
Damn. The game currently has an average user score of a whopping 9.6 on Metacritic. :o That may be the highest I've ever seen on that site.

the decision is only seperated by 7 days but still a tough one
I'm a bit lost with road building. Seemingly, I'm trying to be more extravagant and I'm trying to connect to the highway running along my area...but intersections won't work (space already occupied) and in any road (pun intended) I can't seem to get a road to auto build a bridge over a rail track...and I can't find a bridging tool (bridges are auto built when spanning a river)
Any ideas?
Found it - use Page Up and Page Down for elevated roads
Still can't seem to get an intersection built on the current highway

I'm a bit lost with road building...
Still can't seem to get an intersection built on the current highway
I had the same problem. I just deleted a section of the highway, placed the desired intersection, then attached the highway to the intersection. Traffic resumed normally.
Yep - discovered that last night. Thank you.
I royally screwed that side of my town up though because I seemed to desperately wanted to use all the land...but there was a railway right close to the highway and in the end I spent a shed load of money (wasted) on trying various things to get the road to go over the railway and join the intersection. I eventually got it done, but I wasted a load of cash.
There are a few features from the previous Cities editions that I miss. 1. I hate the blurred effect when zoomed in. The older games there was a check on/off in the options to remove this feature. Personally I think it makes the zoomed in graphics look like crappola. 2. I might be missing something but I don't think you can do an industrial zone painting when the resource overlay is active. Why? So I haven't set any specialization zones up yet, because I want to know where the resource boundaries are when I paint them. Also it appears that they have removed some of the building options and replaced them with auto actions of building industrial zones. I just like more control. 3. Roadway intersections. It was like this in the previous editions too. The roundabouts are HUGE. I want a smaller roundabout that doesn't consume so much space. Stoplights. Please for the love of god give me an option for stoplights/sign to control traffic congestion.
All that being said. This is shaping up to be the best city building simulation since SimCity 4.
Thought I read somewhere that this game has nothing to do with the Cities:XL (or whatever) series. This is supposed to be by a different company.... ???
^The devs of Cities Skylines also did Cities in Motion I and II.

Under options -> graphics, move the slider on "Tilt Shift Amount" all the way to the left (to remove 100% of the blur effect).
I like the bur effect I have to say - it fits with the gamey look

Apparently there's an autosave mod which some consider essential, although autosaving is planned to be officially added to the game at some point.
One thing about the autosave mod is it creates a new slot every time, eating up disk space. Plus there doesn't seem to be a way of easily deleting old saved games. I'm thinking about turning the mod off for my next game.

Awesome! Thanks dude.
I have watched a TON of youtube videos on this one. I also played the hell out of all the Sim City variants. This one appears to be the real deal, and MUCH better than the various city builders that have come before.
I just read that they (the developers) have already sold 300,000+ copies of this game, and going very strong.
I am getting further and further into this and now I'm noticing a few things...mostly minor, but my main issue is workers. I apparently don't have enough workers and I'm spending an awful lot of my time destroying abandoned buildings.
I've got mass transport WITH stops at residential places and stopping at these industry areas. I've got a fair few busses. So I don't think there's a population issue. My land requirement is always being monitored and when I need more housing I build more - I don't let the situation get dire. I've also demolished a lot of low residential housing around these areas and built more high density residential.
I just can't seem to keep the number of workers up to the required...and like I said, a chunk of my time is just demolishing abandoned buildings

There are visual clues, and others clues at well that can help you to judge when you need to add residential.
By clicking on the little icon next to your cities' name, you can see the total number of workers, and needed workers, and the unemployment rate.
Watch the industry for symbols, that specifically state their need for workers. This is the first clue that you need to take some actions.
IF you do find yourself with a worker shortage, increase your taxes. This will reduce your demand, and give yourself a nice boost in income. When the game gives you lemons....
This is what I mean

Most of those buildings round there have got NO workers...not a one. I even took some business tiles out and put some high density residential among them and I'm STILL demolishing buildings. I've also put a metro line in with a stop at each of the industry zones causing me problems and there's bus routes through there.
I am just constantly demolishing buildings around there.

I did load in a mod that automatically bulldozes burned and abandoned buildings...and it works like a champ. Perhaps this would help?
Well - it is a pita demolishing buildings - but the real pita is not knowing what the problem is.
I might be missing something, but the information I need doesn't seem to be there. Like - why do I need so many workers when I have high residential right next door AND I have plenty of accommodation (well...the Residential zones is low)
I think there is also another issue...look at the amount of dead people in this screenie (which is a fraction of the city...zoom in at other places and you see many, many more)
(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1160.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fq499%2Fwmar1967%2FGame%2520Screenies%2FCities%2520Skylines%2FSnap20_zpsstsusdjb.jpg&hash=36dab8dbb9ab501760da55d0522e95967e54dbc1)
I have plenty of healthcare dotted around and plenty of cemetery space. I know people die - so ok...but it's the speed at which these bodies are not being picked up...red icon means they've been there a considerable amount of time.
On top of that - the tweet thing keeps telling me "How do you report a rotting body" and "If there's a dead person lying around, who should I report it to"
I love the game, but I'm missing info (I think) or I just can't find it.
I don't know if there's a bug in the game...but my landfills are filling up and so I built an incinerator. When my landfills filled up, I had to create another one and then select Empty Landfill. Now the manual says it will empty to an Incinerator if there's one available and if not, it will empty to a landfill...but I've actually followed trucks I set to empty a landfill and watched it drive to another landfill and empty there...what's with that?
I don't want to build a landfill so it fills up with the crap from another one...I'm emptying it so I can re-use it as opposed to building more!

Dead people don't need ambulances - that is true. But I've got cemeteries dotted all over my city. I can't remember the count...but each cemetery takes 3000 corpses and has 5 hearses. All of my cemeteries report their hearses are out.
There is a crematorium to buy but you can't buy that until you've got a certain level of population.
Maybe it's traffic.
first turn crashed and burned - ran out of money getting fancy with my roads, built power station too far away to keep my people happy and then the pumping station ran out of power, no water - everyone leaves
back in in 10 mins after a cuppa
lol
It does bring to the fore how difficult it must be to actually run a city - and we don't have to do the vast majority of stuff real councils do

Maybe it's traffic.
One of the reviews I read said it was traffic that was the largest cause of fire burning un-controlled and dead people piling up in the streets. There seems to be a bug that on multi lane roads all the traffic jams into a single lane and the traffic grinds to a halt. This means that your hearses and fire trucks are perma stuck in traffic.
EDIT - Here's the review that mentions the same type of problems yer having....

I caved in and bought the game and I'm liking it very much so far.
Although there are some issues that I hope are rectified:
1) The anti-aliasing in the game is pretty bad with lots of jaggies in the game. Using nVidia Inspector to turn on AA doesn't seem to make a difference. The mod Dynamic Resolution has helped quite a bit although with a good loss of frame rates with my GTX 970: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=406629464 (http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=406629464)
2) I too have definitely seen traffic piling up in one lane with the second lane being almost empty. Not a lot of times, but it's definitely there.
Game play is very fun and the game is very easy to learn. Sometimes I just like to zoom in and watch the traffic and pediatricians move around.

Typically not interested in this type of game, so I also had my reservations about clicking the buy button. Took the dive after watching several twitch streams, no regrets so far.

I haven't had a single crash. I know that doesn't help you, but just saying. I've been ALT-TABing and using my screen grab software and no crashes at all
Sorry ;)
lol, its definitely the software not the game - once it had crashed the game wouldnt restart until id killed the screen capture stuff - shrug - ive learned a few build lessons - time to go back in

The only reproducible crash that I am aware of is having a cargo train station, then hitting pause. When you start back up, it will crash.

My city was going well...I'm up to 80% happiness and I've got a university, some schools and a couple of colleges. Population is 12,500. I need 6090 workers and I've got 5832 of those positions filled. I've got bus lanes, two extensive subways to transport people from residential to office and industry.
But I'm suffering from a HUGE amount of deaths, traffic is absolutely chaos even though I've put the buses and tube stations in and I've got a huge amount of buildings needing demolished.
So I'm starting a new city

People on the forums say this is normal :
this huge death-waves are a thing of huge population waves that come in your city. they all have the same age and after a while, they die close to eachother. Only thing to avoid that is very slow growing. Or live with the deaths. after a few weeks, new people get into the abondan buildings.

You can make your own roundabouts, like I do. Take a one way, two lane street. Use the tool that allows you to bend it. Forward to the first line, left click to bend, advance to the second line. Repeat three times, and you have a roundabout.
This works amazing well if you place it an inch or two away from your main city entrance. Link the main highways directly to your roundabout, and you're gold.
Having bought the 2 neighbouring provinces I'm in the process of moving industry to the east one, commerce to the west one and residential in the middle - it's working so far and having converted the industry to oil its pulling in a fortune, people complain about the refineries but they can't even see it!!
Had a brief 10 minutes of supplying people their own s*** to drink but that got sorted
And I built my own off ramp which is hilarious as it forces incoming trucks to jam their brakes on to make the turn, and for about 30 mins the off ramp was 2 way which allowed people to drive onto the wrong side of the highway then madly 3 point turn and come back into town again
Good times in undercovergeeksville

You need to visit Britain mate. They have totally taken a great idea (roundabouts) and totally f*cked it up almost everywhere! We've got directions on roundabouts, lights on roundabouts, roundabouts within roundabouts, lane throwing on rounadabouts, traffic lanes GOING THROUGH roundabouts! :uglystupid2: :crazy2:

Interesting....I grew up in the southern New Jersey suburbs of Philadelphia. Circles, or roundabouts as they are being called here, were quite common and were built in the 50's and 60's. Most all of them are gone now. They couldn't handle the increased volume and speed of more modern traffic and became rush hour nightmares and accident prone. I imagine newer built ones are better.

Good question.
It's got flaws I've noticed over time, namely
- A build up of dead people all of a sudden
- Emptying rubbish tips do not necessarily go to your incinerator - rather annoying as what's the point of emptying one into another...why not just leave one full and build another?
- Traffic build up - resulting in point one - dead people building up
- Lack of information - WHY are my businesses struggling for people? I have good transport links, underground, bus lines...so WHY?
- Why does placing your fire department/school/college/hospital etc show a green line around the road sections and yet when you actually place it, it shows happy faces from FAR FAR further
It's a great game...but it's got a new version I think to be great. Worth the money? Absolutely. Wait until v2? Up to you ;D
Very happy - haven't had a corpse problem yet
My only disappointment has been my own lack of imagination having just built a huge grid - aka Milton keynes - need to watch a few lets plays for some inspiration
Well I don't think my corpse issue is of my making.
I have plenty of cemetery space and they are dotted around my city. Either they are not "covering" the areas that show smiley's when I place them or they are being stuck. I have no evidiience to support either claim - expect that I suddenly had a build up of dead shit.
So I am not going to accept heat for this...yet. I've seen nothing in my city to suggest I could calm the issue. For example, building a cemetery near where one of the "dead people hotspots" exists results in absolutely zero effect

I think its superb. You build a city that actually looks like a city and the different neighbourhoods actually get individual character by the uniqueness of their layout. There is also a lot of depth in what you can do. Presentation is the best I have seen in a long while.
Still don't have the game but I'm still reading lots about it.
Here's an interesting article on the traffic system by one of the designers:

theres a mod now that will tell you where when and why your traffic isnt flowing properly
personally loving it, but ive read a lot of people saying their disappointed the link to roads is too heavy - you have to build on a road, next to a road, there is no ability to have a roadless, pedestrianised area

There's a mod for that too!

Just started playing. First attempt quickly ended with no money. I like the challenge compared to Sim City.

Am I right to say that maps a limited?
Do you mean the buildable area or the available maps to play on? The default buildable area can be expanded 9 times by default as your city levels up. If you use mods you can expand it to use all 25 squares.
The maps that ship with the game are a bit limited but there are plenty of good ones available me in the workshop. Quil18 did a awesome video on how to bring real world geography into the game.
I mean the maps are static and not random
They are as random as you make them be by spending time in the map editor or on the Steam workshop downloading others' work! :)
If you even cover you eyes before downloading you will certainly have random maps.
Just an FYI that there was a 248 MB size update installed through Steam today for CS: http://store.steampowered.com/app/255710/ (http://store.steampowered.com/app/255710/)
Today we are proud and excited to bring you our first large content update: Cities: Skylines 1.1.0 - European Buildings. This update is, as promised, totally free to all our players - current and future.
So what are you getting today?
Over 50 European style buildings
Wall-to-wall buildings enabling players to build those European streets and neighbourhoods
Three new starter maps
Tunnels, one of the community's most requested features
A number of Asset Editor additions including the ability to import custom vehicles
A multitude of smaller cosmetic additions and bug fixes.
Our brand manager (the handsome guy you've seen in several videos) has the following to say about the expansion plans for Cities: Skylines.
"Cities: Skylines will continue to follow the traditions set by other recent Paradox releases such as Crusader Kings II and Europa Universalis IV of paid expansions combined with large updates of free content ensuring that all players, whether they choose to purchase the expansions or not, will have plenty of new features to look forward to. One of the major differences, however, between those titles and Cities: Skylines will be that minor DLC updates will be uncommon. The majority of content updates will be significant upgrades and additions.
Going forward, we will focus on giving away the main features for free and improving the modding tools, while also selling major expansions around new mechanics. But we will also continue to offer free content such as new buildings and road types."
And back on April 15th:
STOCKHOLM – April 14, 2015 – Paradox Interactive and Colossal Order, the city building genre's new 'It' couple, have today revealed that Cities: Skylines, the monumentally successful city simulation game for PC, Mac and Linux has smashed through the 1 million sales barrier since its release on March 10.
Widely hailed as the new benchmark for the genre, Cities: Skylines has captured the gaming public's imagination with a staggering 33,000 mods having been created to date and made available via the Steam Workshop, with an average of 21,000 concurrent players continuously online since launch.
The game is getting an expansion including a much welcome IMHO day-night cycle.

Night time is fun time! After Dark is the first expansion to the hugely popular classic city simulation Cities: Skylines. The game expands on the repertoire of features and customizations designed to enhance the thrill as well as maintain the challenge of the city building experience.
Developed by Colossal Order and published Paradox Interactive, the central feature of the latest expansion is the day and night cycle, which alters the approach to managing your city. Will you construct a bustling city that lives and breathes at night or will your city succumb to the perils and misadventures of night life? You're only limited by your imagination, so take control. The sky is the limit! Find out what life is like in the city when the sun goes down!
Main features:
Day and Night Cycle: Day and night changes in the city and affects citizen schedules. Traffic is visibly slower at night and some zoned areas do not work with full efficiency, further easing the traffic. Service vehicles move around as usual. A free update for all users.
Leisure specialization: Commercial areas can specialize in leisure activities. Leisure areas are especially active during the night, but work like regular commercial areas during the day.
Beach specialization: Commercial areas such as beach bars and restaurants, small marina and fishing tours on the shoreline can specialize in beach activities.
Expanded City Services: Criminals will now be taken to Prison from Police buildings. Taxi services will help citizens and tourists travel around the city. Cargo hubs are harbors that accept cargo trains straight to the terminal. International airport is a huge airport, allowing much more traffic than the previous airport. It has a metro station attached to it. Bus terminal allows citizens to transfer to other bus lines in the terminal building.
New transportation options: Bikes and dedicated bike lanes and bike ways let citizens opt for a faster alternative to walking. Bus lanes can be used to help the public transportation run smoother.
Saw that the other day. The first thing I thought of when I saw the title was flying toasters :crazy2:
Given how quickly time passes in this game, I don't really see the value in shoehorning a night cycle into it, despite the admittedly pleasing aesthetic.
Maybe they will slow down the day-night cycle as it appears that during the night cycle, some things will act differently.
I know that quite a few posters on Steam have asked for a night cycle like SC4 has.

Anyone still playing this? Just now getting around to playing and am finding it difficult to get out of deficit spending. In other words, I keep running out of money. Any helpful tips? Thanks.
I just got it too, it's a blast. I had the money problem, but I just kept expanding and raised the taxes...then I was swimming in money. Now the overlay shows I have a huge traffic problem from expanding so fast. Really fun game, I started it up to mess around with it while drinking coffee and ended up killing 3 hours.
Nice mod work shop integration on steam too, saw a mod where you could fly a helo or airliner around your city. I haven't delved into any modding yet though.
I don't have problems with money and traffic is a problem. Now it takes quite long to save up for unlocking the next area.

Just curious....what tax level did you set for residential, commercial and industry?
Not sure, I just clicked all of them up a couple notches to see what happened. The games so intuitive, I just tinker with it and check the overlays to see the affect.

If you have any expensive unique building you can turn them off. That will save you some money. depending on your police, fire, power, water coverage you can try shutting some of those buildings off as well.
Not sure where you are at but its really easy to overbuild early on, especially when it comes to roads. If you built roads in areas you haven't yet expanded to try demoing them and rebuilding them later.
I've been experiencing an odd...bug, maybe?...where I can't click on anything unless my mouse cursor is below what I want to click on. Anyone else have this problem?

I remember having that happening to me too. IIRC To get out of that issue, I click on the bulldozer button, bulldoze some clear area and then everything works after that.
Thanks WallysWorld. I'll give that a try.

Thanks...that's exactly what I was doing wrong, overbuilding too early, especially roads. Got a better city going now.
Build too fast and grow your city too fast and at one point, you'll probably get a wave of citizens passing away in a short time period.

Nice! Thanks for the heads-up!
Actually this seems to have matured quite well! I haven't touched it anymore shortly after initial launch because I found it missed a lot of features, but it seems like this has grown into a pretty solid city manager! I am definitely going to take another look at this !
Thanks for the heads up!
