Not in any specific order. Metal Gear Solid V took me back last night when I died and the Checkpoint was pretty much all the way back at the beginning. Over 2 hours (I think) of recce, sneaking around, grabbing stuff down the pan...and all because it wouldn't allow me to climb a ledge - and the only way was doooooown! :knuppel2:
But I'll give the mission another go tonight.
For the record - I hate that Checkpoint save crap. I'll determine where I want to save and when. To make that choice for me is ludicrous AND a false way of making your game balanced/a challenge (delete as appropriate)

Really can't compare....ActionPC Hockey is a great season replay simulation of hockey (not career based)...focus is much more on coaching the actual games, not building a franchise. Eastside is roughly the opposite, its focus is on career building and much less focus on coaching the actual game. Personally I enjoy the season replay games and career based games so I play them both. If you have the slightest interest in season replay, then I would recommend it. It doesn't have any fancy graphics and such, but serviceable for what it is. For what it is worth, I play APC more than I do Eastside.

No gaming for me this weekend. Heading up to Lake George for the 3-day. May take the kids to see Fort Ticonderoga. It's one of the better historical parks I've been to.
Doing some more Pool of Radiance and Hapsburg Eclipse for the AARs I'm doing in the forums.
Will dive into Thunderbolt/Apache Leader (the newer version) from DVG, and might set up the old one too to jog my memory as to how it plays. Will be doing an article on the former title soon.
Have some new GrogCasts to edit for our Season 2 opener, so that's a thing I'll be doing too.
After that, no idea. Depends on how much BS the wife has me doing around the house. Three-day weekend usually equates to a game of "how many chores can I make him cram in that time"...

I play almost everything alone. It makes having a poor grasp of the rules an advantage in terms of unexpected game-play. Oh and yes, Wing Leader is two-player.

Hello Friday. My name's Slash and I'm a Game-aholic and don't want to be cured. I embrace the disease and try to smother it with my few unspoken for hours of life left. There's just too many damned good games to play one at a time and I'm too Single-Task oriented to do 2 or 3 at the same time. DC: Case Blue has sucked me back in again for another beat-down. I feel like a battered spouse. I've still got the Pillars of Eternity itch to scratch along with Pools of Darkness and the poor pickletruppen left in mid-combat in CM-Everything are wondering where the hell I've been for so long. And now The Thirty Years War is here to torment me anew. If I win the lottery this weekend, I'm going to hire somebody really good to play some of these frigging games for me!

Re-install Arkham Knight overnight to complain about how the new patch is worthless. :)) I've been picking at learning the match-4 tetris-y dungeon-designing game Tomb of Tyrants. Card Hunter, likely.
Selling off some unplayed board games tomorrow (for a total of around $450). Then I'll be hopping on to the fantasy football draft and mocking relentlessly. Then I really should play something, now that I've got my new 27" screen. Board gaming day on Sunday. Who the Hell knows what on Monday!

I've gone on a bit of a shopping spree over the last week or so buying Pike and Shot Campaigns, Pillars of Eternity, Endless Ledgend: Shadows, Mad Max and Thirty Years War.
I'll be trying to play at least a few of them over the weekend but I may get distracted and go back to Civ:BE or GalCivIII.

Played Crusader Kings 2 and finished up some scripts for my CMANO Hunting Submarines scenario last night. Going to be streaming CMANO today, after that the rest of my weekend will be a mix of more CMANO, CK2, and some World of Warships.

My bad - forget what I said. Turns out you can only trade gifts that are in your Steam 'Inventory', not games in your Steam 'Library'. If the game was purchased as a 'gift' for someone, then you could do trade it. I had some vague memory that Valve was going to introduce game trading at one point - I guess I was misinformed.
^ The URL gives all the info. I think I read in there too that it says if it's eligible for trade it has to be within 30 days of purchase. Seems there's too many hoops to make it convenient.
Then again I can see them not making this a universal thing, because then you could just have a 'game group' where each person buys one game and then plays it for X time period, then everyone trades it down the line and starts again. I dunno.
Well I realize I'm about 2 years late on this but I finally got around to spending some real time with Rome 2. Man alive, they really did a nice job with this game.
For Gus, cause I know you had asked, I'm running on ULTRA settings and the game is running smooth as a baby's bottom. The Forest benchmark came it at an average 83 FPS so I think you'll be pleased with this computer's performance.
Watch out the next thing you know you'll be using the Foxfire browser too. :)
Woof, done for the night taking screenies to work on finishing my Armello Absolute Newbie DAR tomorrow (http://grogheads.com/forums/index.php?topic=14743.0) (presumably).
Finally finished re-installing Arkham Knight this afternoon; can't say I see much overall improvement, even on my slightly aging beast of a Presence. The NVIDIA GeForce Experience settings correctly turned off everything but the 1080p :2funny: -- and even then the game warned me I might see a few hiccups! Which was true. Never mind turning on all the bling. I did turn off the film grain and the lens flare, neither of which affected the game but it looked better. Weirdly, so did turning off anti-aliasing -- something I discovered by accident when I turned down the resolution to 480 just to see if ANYTHING made the dynamic smoke effects run smoothing on the Batmobile (that mostly did, but still not completely). But I've got the Texture Filtering up to 16, and Level of Detail high (for distance rendering). Even the Normal bitmap eats too much gfx memory, much moreso again High, so that's off.
But with those two things on, and the resolution nicked down once to 1050, the game runs scary-smooth, and even with all the bling off things look great (and previously did, too), including water effects on the cape while gliding etc.
So no real improvements, for my rig anyway, other than to remind me I'll probably want to ask the Falcon crew what they'd recommend upgrading my gfx to after Christmas (and letting them talk me through installing it just to be safe and in warranty. Also asking whether they'd take any credit on a trade-in for the old card.)
So far this weekend I've done nothing but played Nobunaga's Ambition: Sphere of Influence on both the PC and PS4. (Yes I'm a sick bastard and got both versions of the game)
I also played a little bit of Nobunaga no Yabou: Souzou which is the Japanese language version of Nobunaga's Ambition: Sphere of Influence. Now all I need to make this long weekend complete is to watch Akira Kurosawa's Ran.

I think Ikiru was the first Kurosawa film I ever watched. Still one of my all time favorite films.
I loved seeing Throne of Blood for the first time. I always got spooked by the acts where the main character runs into the ghosts in the woods. Laughing sarcastic asian ghosts for the win!
Some moderate success with Arma III Koth, i learnt a few things
- its a lot easier to be in the game at the start than join in the middle, i had my first start this evening and was much more familiar with the ebb and flow of the battle and where the hot spots were
- as ever, i cant shoot for shit, i know my gun is underpowered but i am genuinely a bad shot, it just means closing with the enemy a little more and thats no bad thing
- never turn around to see where the last incoming shot came from, just run for gods sake!
- i have a lot of difficulty finiding the enemy but im due to watch a few KOTH youtube videos tonight and ill see what im doing wrong
As usual, i barely had time to play anything (around 20 minutes of Hegemony and Horizon each)... :'(
Managed to buy new games though :uglystupid2:....preordered Grand Ages Medieval and Anno 1701 and the Settlers VI (?) on GOG. If only i could play games as fast i buy them!
Very much tempted by Nobunaga's Ambition: Sphere of Influence but i think i'll wait....still have Takeda 3 and have barely played Shogun TW as well as Sengoku. I have to play these first.

Hey UCG, I was on KotH last night as well. If you see "Toonces" please ensure you say hello.
A few things I've learned:
1. If you get on a bad server, meaning one team is totally stacked, or is just strafing the shit out of your spawn, cut your losses and go to a different server (unless you have a ton of patience). I had two pretty bad experiences last night, first I was on the Vila server with 60/80 players on and once the OPFOR got the objective wired it was impossible to get into the zone and get anything done. We had like 18 on our team and if one team has it's stuff together and is a bit overnumbered, they can hold off the other team pretty effectively. Second run the OPFOR has about 5 jets up and they just killed anyone trying to get into the zone. I think we lost 100 to 3 or something like that. Not fun at all.
2. A good weapon/launcher will make a huge difference in your kills. I used the EXPL perk to get the grenade launcher for the Katiba and you can get a lot of kills with that. Especially if a helo lands or there's a paradrop anywhere within 200 yards of your position. Get the EXPL and AMMO perks and you can really do some damage. Last night I finally picked up a machine gun, the 12.7mm one in tan, and I was just wasting dudes with that. Your kills will go way up when you start one-shotting guys instead of having to put multiple rounds into them and just winging them.
3. Don't discount other cues around you. Twice I got killed last night and I heard the guy coming up the stairs but thought I was just hearing things. Also, if you shoot at someone and miss them but they get a look at where you're shooting from, or if you get wounded but then get up and start shooting again at the guy that wounded you, 9 times out of 10 they will sneak around to your building and come upstairs to kill you. Be expecting that and wait for them. I am getting good at killing dudes like that. You have to be patient, though, but almost always they'll come to you if you wait long enough.
When KotH is on it is super fun, but like any MP game, if you get the wrong mix of players it's not fun at all. The right weapon, though, makes a huge difference. I recommend upgrading as soon as you can.
Are perks switchable? I've picked medic and launcher for the first 2 - am I allowed to change them?

Alpha actually but they just released the last alpha patch recently. So now it's onto beta and beyond!
Jim and I got in a co-op game of SOW Waterloo yesterday, where we pulled off a major victory and held on to Plancenoit despite hordes of Prussians coming at us. Artillery is your friend in this game. We may give it another go today.
Played a short scenario of AGEOD's Thirty Years War - the Paladins. Won on points, but I think the real meat of this game is in the longer scenarios/grand campaign. May start that today.
PBEM turns in the JTS/HPS Waterloo campaign game Jim and I are playing.
Finished up the Brienne: Unskilled Fury scenario from OSGs Introductory game and then played the Aspern Essling scenario from Waterloo 20. Some pictures of the Brienne game are up at my blog, and I'll post an AAR of Aspern Essling later this week, I think.

Yes, you can change perks. Go to the perk guy and when it's open there's a button for "remove" above each of your perks. Just remove the ones you don't want and add new ones.
I still only have two because I'm too cheap to pony up the 100k for the third perk slot. Once I hit 300k in the bank I might do it, though. Two has been working pretty fine so far, and I just switch them out depending on what I'm doing. For example, if I'm doing helo runs I always grab the Countermeasure and Engineer perks.

cool, ill swap them around - i feel under an awful lot of pressure as a medic to revive and then usually get shot in the face for the privilege, its only in the last game i came across a guy in a vehicle guarding a building, thats why i chose launcher - would have loved to have fired one up his exhaust pipe
I finished the Armello DAR last night (http://grogheads.com/forums/index.php?topic=14743.0), completing my first game. Won't spoil how it ended but in a couple of ways it was down to the wire.
Spent most of my game-time today working on Nobunaga's Ambition, played a guy on the southernmost coast (far left on the main map) who only had four small castles, half of which were separated from the other half by bits of hostile territory. Still managed to fend off an assault every year by the guy next door; but when I lost one of my other castles about 25 years into the game, I knew I was pretty much toast as there would never be any way for me to train up enough troops to take it back. (I would need larger castles for that, and for larger castles I'd need more workers that I'd need 50 more years to get most likely since I'd lost a third of them in one fell swoop.)
UCG, don't forget you have white smoke grenades. You can switch to those from normal grenades by pressing ctrl-G or Shift-G...make sure you pick the right one because the wrong one chucks a grenade! LOL don't accidentally do that away from the safe zone. So you can pop 2-4 white smokes before you go into a hot area to rescue someone. Give them a few (like 15+) seconds to really start spewing. If I feel like I really need them I usually throw them all since I've never been alive long enough to wish I had more. You can always loot more off a dead body if it comes down to it.
Tuna & I had some good games this afternoon. I recall at least one match where we each scored three (or more?) kills and had our way with the opposition.

Thanks for the games, that was a lot of fun! .. Didn't get much gaming in this weekend due to 'family' stuff, but today was a blast on the High seas!.. You were kicking ass with that Clemson a few times!

That's what pretty much happened to my first game as clan Motochika on Shikoku island. I neglected building up my armed manpower focusing instead on rice and gold. What good are mountain loads of rice and gold when you've got no manpower to protect it? Started a new game now as clan Uesigi.
On the other hand, the only way to get the kind of man(and horse)power I routinely fought against (and which finally whomped me), is to build up the rice and gold.
Admittedly, I got distracted by focusing more on the crops and gold than on the manpower. I mistake I shall not repeat: insert Eastern wisdom about balance here.

Ahem...yes KotH is a great Arma experience. Sort the servers by mission and then pick the one with the best low ping/high number of players combo. I find actually getting into some servers to be a test of patience: some of them reserve slots, so although they appear to have vacancies, you get booted. And then the server list has to refresh. Then there is the 101 ways of dying before getting into battle. So dial up your patience-settings, set some time aside and give it a go.
