OK, so I'm bored and don't feel like working at the moment, so decided to stir things up a bit by rumor-mongering.

Rumor (http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2711515) has it, the sale may start on 6/28...or maybe next week... :D

Just checked and saw that the Summer Sale the last couple of years started on the last Thursday in June, so the 28th does look good...

I'm guessing it's about time that Skyrim had a hefty sale price.  Probably a big-name shooter or something, too.  But I'm more concerned with the smaller companies' stuff these days.

^That would be excellent since I just got some credit over at Steam, about 40.00 worth. 40.00 these days goes a long way there, especially during a sale.

I think Skyrim already have had a 25 or a 50% sale. Pretty sure it will have another during the summer sale. All in preparation for the expansion... ^^

Steam has Wargame: European Escalation on sale for $20 right now, for 20 more hours or so.  I picked it up; if anyone else wants to get it maybe we can try some MP later.

That's just the dailies. Most of the catalog gets a discount, too, so there's almost always SOMETHING.  ;D

Some of their games do require their client....others, you get a Steam key.  I keep my eye on them (sales, etc), but have never actually bought from them...yet.

Sorry, I don't know anything about it. Steam's storefront is bombing out. I can't even look at it there. A quick look at the game's website didn't give me much to go on as it was loading really slowly, too.

I just got an email from Gamestop/Impulse that they will have 500 copies of Fall of the Samarai available starting tomorrow for $10 each. Definitely going to try to snag one of those!

I lost a gift sale last year, into the void, and it eventually popped back out into my 'holding area' of games a week or two later.   :-\

It was showing for $5 US here.  I was very close to pushing the button, but my play list is backed up so far I've finally given up going crazy on the sale days.  :P


I made a long (but incomplete) list of some of the popular titles that are on sale, and their prices, over at w-gamer, after muscling through some category searches.  But pretty much everything is on sale.

Hmmm... Nothing I've seen so far that interests me.  All the titles on sale that I might've been interested in, I already own. 

What do you all think of Deus Ex: Human Evolution?

^LOVED Deus Ex: Human Revolution. A good spiritual successor to the original Deus Ex.

How many hours in it? I've just become interested in the last day or so...just missed it for 7.49 :/

30ish hours for a single run through if you play as straight up shooter. Longer if you want to play stealthy. There's a very tantalizing achievement -- playthrough without killing. I would think a Thief fan would love that option.

There is also at least one dlc that adds some new play content. I'll be looking for that during the sale.

Some replayability, although it is more through methods of play (ie, stealth vs shooter) and finding new paths to and through stuff than randomness of missions or players within. However, npcs will occasionally show up in unexpected places, so some newness there. I won't swear the game figures out you only have six tranq darts left and drops a seventh npc on the floor, but I have my suspicions.

Yeah the Thief-y-ness of it is part of what is attracting me. Is it fair to say it is a cyberpunk title?

It would be unfair to call it anything other than cyberpunk! (I was pleased with the hacking implementation, among other small little touches.)

Never having played the original it does sound like a fascinating game.

Would it help if I told you it has a "rockin' the casbah" mission?

Yes cyberpunk.  Yes Theif-y-ness.

It's a great blend of stealth & action and, even better, it's pretty lenient on how much you want of each.  It's pretty linear, but you still get to make enough decisions to allow for different playstyles if you decide to go again & approach situations differently.

My take on Railworks is that it would cost a small fortune to buy all the DLCs (http://store.steampowered.com/search/?snr=1_4_4__12&term=Railworks) for it. So I didn't buy it, but that's just me. Anyone have any issues with CK2 with steam? Can you play it in offline mode without being connected to steam? For some reason the gamers gate version or any gamers gate game, won't install on my computer so I'm thinking of picking it and all the DLC up on Steam.

I bought this during the xmas sale, but at that time it was really cheap something like a few dollars.  I messed with it for awhile, but nothing I play all the time.  I certainly have no plans to buy all the expansions.  But for the price I paid, it was worth it just to drive around som trains.

Why won't GG games install on your computer?

Are you not using an Admin login for Windows or something?  Sounds like you have some permissions turned off if you can't use an installer.


And, yes, I've ran CK2 without even firing up Steam before (with the beta version anyway).  You've gotta run it from the CK2_RD.exe file in it's install location.  It should be the same way for retail, since it's the same version # these days anyway.  Looks like Paradox did us a favor by not putting all the Steam-required crap in the game exe.

I've already grabbed the Kohan Warchest, Trine 2, From Dust, Choplifter HD, Hard Reset and Alan Wake. And we're on day 2. Good grief.

Hmmm.  Actually I might get EYE Divine Cybermancy.  I love those really "out there" games and this one, after playing the demo, seems particularly mental.  It's only £2. :)

Seeing as it's $1.99, I'd say go get it if you like the main game.  ;D Looks like it adds a new class of troopers, plus a pile of new level build options, co-op game play and a bunch of new mutators for soldiers.

Bleh.. Stupid steam users voted Red faction instead of Jagged Alliance. Not that Red is bad, far from it i liked it a lot. But Jagged is the first game potentionally on sale that i actually wanted. So far i've only bought Toy soldiers for 2.49 euro.
Now i hope that it will return at 75% before the sale is out and it propably will.

Its it just me or have some game purchasers become totally unrealistic when it comes to prices. I normally skim the Steam game forums before purchasing a game just to make sure there is nothing wrong with the program and I can't believe how much bitching and complaining I have seen concerning prices. Age of Empires III was the latest example. Its not my type of game yet I was tempted because it was discounted 75% to a price of $9.99. Reading some of the posts blew my mind with people stating that the price was too high, it should be at most $5.00, the price was high because Microsoft is greedy, etc... I've seen many similar posts on other games and it blows my mind; $9.99 for AOE III is less than a price of a 12 pack of beer.

Some game buyer's have become extremely spoiled and feel entitled to dirt cheap games that they can purchase with their lunch money. I'm old enough to remember when you really had to do your research and think hard before buying a game because it was a large investment (remember paying forty or fifty bucks for a game in the 90's - when minimum wage was around $3.00 an hour).  No buyer's bitch if a game is on sale for more than $5.00.

Believe me I love the low prices but some have become unrealistic. Anyway, this rant of mine is going nowhere - Sorry for the rant. 

PS: I not talking about you Gus. Your happy with the sale prices; I'm talking about the buyer's who always seem to complain that the prices are not low enough.

I hear you on almost everything you posted. Except...AoE III really wasn't that good. And I loved AoE II, and bought the AoE III special boxed edition...I was so PO'd.

Answering my own thread here, it appears Dive to the Titanic is on sale to the 23rd for $15.  Hmmmm, this is tough.  The forums are littered with posts that the game is sort of garbage, but if you're into Titanic it's worth it.  I'm into Titanic.  For $10 I would definitely jump.  For $15 I'm not so sure.  Not that $5 is that much money, but when you buy Fallout New Vegas Ultimate Edition for $10, it kind of skews your price objectivity, relatively speaking.

AGoT is still sitting at $37.50 which is way too much.  I need to see something in the range of $15 to buy it.

I actually liked AoE 3 quite a bit, ESPECIALLY with the expansions. The nations added in both packs actually felt and played a little bit differently from those in the vanilla game.

Anyway, so far no purchases for today.

Dear Esther is just $2.49. For those who don't know about it, the game is a narrative overlaying a moody landscape in which the player simply walks the path of the narrator while trying to figure out what happened (or is happening?). There is no combat and minimal interaction with the environment. It's more like wandering around in someone else's dream, with haunting music and some great scenery. I recommend it but caution folks that you need to keep an open mind. I admit it.  I need intervention.  I am addicted to the Steam Summer Sale.  I just bought 4 more games, and I'm waiting to see if "Batman; Arkham City" gets picked as the community selection.

What's worse our game is on sale, too, so I'm frequently going back to check numbers and, well, you know.  While I'm here I'll just take a look around...

I am waiting on Deus Ex: Human Evolution. I see that the Square Enix/Eidos Collection includes it and a ton of other games, but some I have already and there are some in the pack that I have not interest in.

Does anyone know where to find a list of games that require Steam to play? I found this List of games using Steam authentication (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_games_using_Steam_authentication) but it is incomplete. I prefer to use Steam only when I absolutely have to in order to play a game I have a hankering for or when the non-Steam version of a game has a very draconian form of DRM.

That's exactly it.  It isn't as good as Disciples 2 but it's a solid effort.  To be honest, if you aren't a total graphics whore you may as well play D2 (which comes with all its expansions at a low price at GOG and other places), but D3 is far from terrible.

Disciples II was awesome. I haven't played DIII.

If I'd never played D2 I would probably like D3 a lot more.  It's just that they inexplicably went with HOMM-like battle arenas for the third instalment, and although they kept the atmosphere nice and dark, it just doesn't hold a candle to the sheer bleakness of the second game.

D3 is a beautiful game, though.

I'll echo what everyone else said about DIII.  It looks great and I didn't run into any bugs but the gameplay just didn't grab me like DII did.

I bought RAGE yesterday and Limbo today.  Just started Rage.  I'm a little surprised that I'm getting slow texture loading and not great framerates on my new killer rig.  Oh well. 

Diablo III's biggest problem?  The terrifyingly short campaign, IMO.

Having to replay a 16 hour campaign over & over  - and with multiple characters - gets infuriating.  Especially when I don't even like the final Act.

Finally picked up my first purchase (Skyrim) of the Summer sale.  It was on sale (again) as the Community Choice. It's by no means a bad game.  I think that the release of King's Bounty between DII and DIII kind of upped the ante as far as gameplay goes.  DIII plays quite similarly to DII, they just didn't add a lot of features besides allowing movement on the tactical battle map. 

I do think I should play DII first to see what all the hullabaloo is about.

Hope you got a very small monitor - the original was locked at 640x480 and the expansion pack raised it to a whopping 800x600.  ::)  That was just fine on a little 15" CRT back in 2000 but it's sh!t today.

I looked for a hi-res fix a few years ago, but evidentally Blizzard considered it cheating and threatened to yank your Bliz account & f*#k your mother if you used one.  ::) ::)  The characters all looked so tiny in them, it wasn't worth bothering with anyway.

Don't know. I have not even had a chance to download it yet but I thought the price was right ($13 for the gold edition). I know it was in bad shape when released but they have had ten patches and when considering that the Gold edition seems to have a lot of campaigns/scenarios (economic missions, military missions and siege missions) - I thought I would give it a shot.

Ended up getting Spec Ops : The Line, CoD : Black Ops and Binary Domain as well as Sniper Elite 2. I guess I'm stocked up on shooters now.  ;D

Oh man, Dungeon Siege bundle is a must buy for me at 7 and a half clams.  I already have DS1 (two copies) and DS2, but it's worth buying the bundle to get DS3 and the other two all inside my Steam shell and not have to worry about disks anymore.  I mean, gosh, I spent more money than that on lunch at Popeyes today!

Hmm...Wargame: European Escalation for 20.00...

I bought L.A. Noire, which is a bad port that doesn't work (that will teach me to read only reviews and being optimistic about games actually functioning properly, instead of checking forums to see that like many games in recent years, the game has serious issues), so I threw away 10 euro's. Not that bad, obviously, but annoying. I turned away from more mainstream games because of all the DRM schemes and poor release state and was hoping I might be drawn back into the fold temporarily, but a game that doesn't get beyond the first loading screen (still on the desktop) is a new all-time low.

Back to wargames.

I do hope you guys are enjoying what you've bought. I've bought/played so many more mainstream games in the past that I guess I'm also just a bit saturated when it comes to mainstream gaming.

I've already bought everything I wanted on those sales.

My only purchases have been Arma II and Orcs Must Die 2, neither of which was on super sale.

I've been tempted on a couple of others but my dance card is pretty full. Getting some of those older games is going to be a distraction from work. I'm sure eventually they'll tempt me with something, but so far it just isn't there for me.

I haven't bought a single sale game yet.  I would be proud of myself if it was for any reason other than the fact that I already bought them all when they were not on sale.

Yeah the sale has been rather underwhelming this time, which lessens the blow of my being skint somewhat.  I did manage EYE Divine Cybermancy (impressions to follow, as demanded by Gus) but even if money hadn't been an issue there wouldn't have been much else.  Probably a Paradox title or two.  Even the indie bundles haven't been very tempting.

sooo I ended up getting Stronghold 3.  I was just really needing a medieval city building game.  I love the whole idea of starting with a small camp and building a town/city/fortress from there.  I loved doing that in Age of Empires II.  Here is to hoping it doesn't totally suck.

I see Risen 2 is on as a flash sale now.  I was really hoping to pick it up, but $33 is about $13 more than I was hoping to spend.  Anyone recommend it?  I liked, but didn't love the first Risen.

Get it. It's a bit weird in terms of police procedures with street crimes, but the main point of the game is quite well done.

I think you'll like Alan Wake.  It's good some good spooky to it at times.  The game is very atmospheric and the environments look amazing.  Combat mechanics are pretty repetitive though.

Sadly I have not fired up my uber-copy of Fallout New Vegas yet. However the reviews for it from dudes here are simply stellar. I will hazard a guess and say for 5 dollah you cannot go wrong.

Even with all the low prices on good games today, I still have limited time though. I think that, more than anything else, has led me to not purchase anything. Could I have actually matured??

And I don't remember it being much of a "system hog", though I guess it won't run that smoothly on high settings on older PCs.

I've been waiting/hoping to see this one drop some more, below the $23.xx that its at now. I'm keeping my eye on it and will pick it up before the sale ends. One reason I want it is because I read (somewhere) that you can use some (all?) of the maps/scenery for Take On Helicopters, which I did grab for $20 the other night.

Okay, I had attempted to remap the keys from the launcher options but I could not highlight the ones I wanted to change. I just discovered I needed to double-click on it to highlight the assigned key in order to change it.

Opinions will differ.

I never played Oblivion, but Morrowind didn't do much for me. I think the game engine was still evolving. For $5 it's probably not a bad deal, but personally I'd hold out for something else. Fallout is great, plays similarly (though scifi rather than fantasy) and is $10. I picked up Fallout Vegas and have been enjoying it.

I never played that far. But to me it was a must to install a mod that changed the lvl mechanics. I can not stand to be forced to actually keep track on paper the skills i lvl'd to get a decent raise on lvlup.

I enjoyed oblivion. It is certainly worth $5. There are lots of mods available, including Obscuro's Oblivion Overhaul that changes leveling so that creatures don't become uber powerful as you level up.

Torchlight is on sale for $3.74, which is a steal. I paid $9.99 for it a year ago and loved it. Yes its a simple hack and slash and yes it gets repetative after a while but damn its fun for while it lasts. I played the crap out of it for weeks until I got burned out on it. If you want a game to sit down with, drink a beer, relax and beat the hell out of bad guys you should give it a try. I can't wait for Torchlight 2 this summer.

Personally i didn't enjoy Torchlight much. I played a few hours but i didn't have fun so i stopped.

Grabbed Rayman Origins on a Flash deal. Looks like an old school platformer, and I like those from time to time. I also picked up Hegemony Gold, since I'm assuming the 50% off catalog discount it has is probably as low as it's getting.

Tempted by Arma 2, but I probably wouldn't ever get around to playing it.

I enjoyed Hegemony Gold. Not particularly deep but it really taught me a lot about ancient Greece. I'm also tempted by Arma 2 but I've already got three new games from this sale on top of my back log of 7-8 other titles.

How difficult is Arma to learn?

Get it!  Arma II is double plus good!

It's got a bit of a learning curve to it, but that's mostly due to the cumbersome interface.  Once you get the controls mapped in a way that you're comfortable with, it's really quite easy to play for the most part.  (Commanding full squads can still a headache though.  Again, mostly due to the interface.)

So far I'm failing the basic training becasue for the life of me I can't figure out how to drag a downed soldier!!!!  >:(

The para training was fun though....

The graphics don't bother me but to each his own. I think Torchlight appeals to a lot of people because  it is Diablo as Diablo used to be. It is the Diablo without the "always on" connection/drm, auction houses, "gold farming, etc... When I read about the crap Blizzard was going to put purchasers though with Diablo III, I passed on it.

Do a search on "Take On Helicopters Rearmed" (I'm on my Touchpad and can't figure out how to copy/paste a link...dang it).  One of the ToH patches (1.06) allows you to merge content from ARMA2 into ToH if you have both.  I've bought both ToH and ARMA2 during the sale, just haven't had a chance to download them yet. Hope to try them both out next week.

Today, Wargame: European Escalation is on sale for $12.50.  That's a very good price for the game- very reasonable and worth it if you have even a passing interest in a modern RTS-type game.  I quite enjoy the single player quick battle thing.  Haven't tried MP yet.

I like them but I'm a fan of point-and-click adventure games and Sherlock Holmes.  They're translated from French so sometimes the dialogue is a little stilted and the voice acting isn't always the best but I like the stories and the puzzles.

The Game of Thrones RPG is the only game I've done asked for a refund on from Steam.  I've bought plenty of games I didn't like, and chalk that up to it not being a bad game, but just different from my tastes. I bought SOTS2 when it came out and have hung on as Kerberos has issued patch after patch to fix the problems, because you could see the promise of the game.  The GoT RPG was simply unplayable.  I found it impossible to even get my character to move where I wanted him to go.  It was a real disappointment because i really like tactical party RPGs, but this one wasn't worth spending any money on at all.

Did you watch the vid for it Huw? Really impressive. Hotas also do an A10 controller combo, the price of which is way outta my league. I shall have to soldier on with me ageing Saitek X45 combo, which is ok really, although the rudder pedals would be nice (money again - could do with a hefty Lotto win!).

Seeing JD build those model aircraft has made me hanker to do some models again, and my first choice would be a decent scale OV-10 Bronco, although after a browse, it seems to be a very neglected subject, with only 1 model available in 1/48 scale, and that, according to reports is a very poor, inacurate kit :-((

I think I'm going to bag getting Game of Thrones.  There have just been too many negative comments and even for $17 I don't need another game I won't play.  However, I did pick up Blood Bowl Legendary Edition for $10.

While the net leagues are excellent, now that there is a matchmaker so you don't have to spam LFG in the chat all the time, it's still far less demanding to play solo.  Unfortunately, the AI can only beat up on the noobiest of noobs and is an unimaginative pushover once you learn the game mechanics.  It pretty much runs the same style for every type of team - and they vary greatly in play style & strength.

I recall customers on the forum universally clamoring for improved AI in each new release, and the devs just downright refuse to spend time on it.   ::)   So the multiple times I have received a discount on a new version in my e-mail, I spit and curse while vowing to not purchase it until it's bargain binned.  If they refuse to spend dev time on fixing it's biggest fault, then I'm not gonna spend money on it's re-re-release.

All that being bitched about, the game itself is fun.  You just gotta give undivided attention to it, during a whole multiplayer game, due to universal turn time limits.  So if you gotta drop the kids off at the pool or kiss your wife's feet for a couple minutes, you'll be hosed.   :P 

I wouldn't spend this much time bitching about a game's fault(s) unless I generally liked it, though.

??? Why not Chaos Edition? I bought that for $10 (on the previous user discount: I hadn't bought a new version since the original), and thought it was the most recent edition. Just released last week.

It is the most recent edition and was released on the 11th.
However the 10$ price tag is only for people who own a copy of any of the previous editions.
Steam let you register any past editions not bought through them (and still do I believe) so you can get their Steam version and the discount.

Well - I plunged for Chaos...

So...is it just me (and don't get me wrong - I'm pretty crap at the game) or is the game all about running and blocking and very little passing involved? I didn't see the AI (in the previous edition or this one) pass once unless the player was next to them and the times I tried it, the ball was dropped.

I just got the impression last time around that passing was kind of broke - and my initial foray into this edition didn't make me think it was any better.

It's early days - and I desperately want to like the game - but all the AI seems to do is surround the player with the ball and run it up.

Any player with high Agility, and/or the catching special ability that gives a bonus, is good at receiving.  There's also a Passing special ability that gives a bonus for that and midling teams like Orcs, Humans, etc. can kinda get by with these.   It's still a huge risk if the receiver has opponents near them as a drop could easily bounce right into one of their hands, if not fumbling right in front of them and handing the turn over.  But with all the risk can come big huge scores in fast time.  The Wood Elves are a blast to play due to all their dodging and catching ability but they break like twigs all the time and it's expensive to replace them when they are ruined by injuries so they are also very frustrating.

I read the forums a bit and it sounds like they pretty much only added the three new teams and are attempting to fix the terrible sync issues that have always plagued multiplayer games enough to ruin some matches. 

For some stupid reason, I took the discount while I could and picked up the $10 Chaos Edition.  I'm punching myself in the face because Cyanide Studios still hasn't fixed the net code bugs OR the stupid AI.  At least they're trying to fix the first one, but I'm beginning to believe the Cyanide devs are the 3rd stringers of the game programming world.  >:(

Oh.. and if some of you decide to give Blood Bowl multiplayer a go, that could encourage me to STFU with my complaints and jump back in.  Despite the issues, it's still a unique tabletop-to-PC experience.

If there's a few people, we could even create our own private GrogHeads League.  :D  Now that would be fun, if we could get the game scheduling lined up.

How does online work? PBEM?

I never play online (apart from the occasional BF3) - but I'd possibly be willing to play you online IF you let me know daft things I'm doing or clever things I'm not doing - and IF it's pbem

I suspect the synch problems have to do with the crazy real-time system they implemented, which tries to run a dice-based game consonant with real-time behavior.

The "Blitz" rules that are new for the game (as opposed to the tabletop, not new for the Chaos edition) can operate in turn-based however, as far as I can tell (didn't actually play much this weekend, working on some other games).

Turn-based would be either LAN, TCP/IP or play by email. Okay, I guess the former two could involve desynch. Maybe the latter now that I think of it: the game allows one person to institute actions for all players (once per turn) until or unless someone on their side gets knocked down--doesn't matter who--and then the other player has initiative to act until they expend all pieces or one of their pieces get knocked down. (This has nothing necessarily to do with who has the ball at any moment, although getting hold of the ball obviously triggers initiative.)

The player who doesn't have initiative will have his pieces react to various conditions automatically until initiative for his side is restored. So a desynch could occur that way: Player A, having initiative, does thing that B's pieces react to in various ways, until something triggers a switch in initiative (usually one of A's players being knocked down), then the turn is sent to B who now has initiative--but on the replay for B so he can catch up with the situation, B's pieces don't behave the same way for a buggy reason leaving him with a different situation.

So I don't know. PBEM may also be have synch problems I guess. If I wasn't lazy I could actually do research rather than speculate about it.  ;D


As to the air game: this is affected by various factors.

1.) Environment: wind can screw up passes for example.

2.) Relative size differences between teams: hard for a halfling to pass over a treant.

3.) Inherent racial/faction factors: highly dextrous races or factions are better at passing and receiving. Elves (of various sorts), the rats, maybe the Amazons. This is partially reflected in whether a race or faction even has "passers" and "catchers" as an option! (Those are specially intended to throw and catch the ball. Some teams don't have them; others, like the basic human team, have them but aren't racially all that great with them.) Teams that don't will have to have members specially trained and outfitted over time to throw and catch balls, if the coach wants that as a strategic goal or as a tactical option. Basic Chaos, for example, is designed from the outset to win not by either passing or running the ball, but by murdering the other team to the point that they have to forfeit the match!--so developing either a pass/catch or run team (much moreso a team competent at both) can take a long time.

4.) Experience: just like most tactical RPG's (including Warhammer), novices suck and elites are leety. A subfactor here is that starting a new campaign usually means starting with novices.

5.) Loot: various things can be bought and more-or-less permanently assigned to players to kit them up for better passing and catching. This applies to chaos mutations, too.

6.) Temporary spells and similar effects.

7.) Co-dependency: last but not least, a good passer is worth almost nothing without a competent catcher or vice versa. (Although a good passer is worth more, because the rules are set up so that one viable strategy is to use the passer like a punter and just get the ball near a team member for him to pick up--except that unlike "Niffle Amorican" football  ;) intentionally grounding the ball and picking it up can lead to an end-zone score! (I think. There are lots of rules and I may be easily misremembering.) On the other hand, the mere act of picking up a ball is no easy feat for some teams or for player types on some teams!


I'm pleased to say that I was able to solve my graphic problem at least (don't use the highest level shaders), and that the game runs fine on XP SP2. I haven't tried building a team yet, but I'd be interested in a Grog PBEM league of some sort.

id be right there for a PBEM league - i just dont know if it can be done like that - think its just head to head because of all the mid turn dice rolls for tackles,fumbles and interceptions - ill have a look

A single game, in PBEM, would take ages.  I don't think it's feasible at all.

I think the current online leagues works just fine.. other than the occasional sync problems that can ruin a match.  >:(  I dunno how many times I've sat watching a "resyncing..1..2..3..4..28" message during a turn but it's mf'ing annoying, especially so when a game ends because the program can't seem to stay sync'd.  This can become a bigger issue when playing people overseas and there are quite a few Brits, Spanish, and especially French players I've had matches against.

The Online Leagues are very cool since you just log in, create a new team, and start playing head-to-head games.  Level up your players, buy extras between matches, and play some more.  Each match is just a simple (you'd think!) turn-based affair so you'll have to play each one out or forfeit if your hooker/wife comes home early, demanding attention.  But I think you get a couple "time-outs" that let you pause the game for an extra 30 or 40 seconds, to put out any house fire you may get during the match.  I recall typically finishing a game in 20 to 30 minutes - you tend to get faster at making your moves the more experience you have.
