Title: Friday in my hands
Post by: Anguille on January 06, 2023, 05:19:17 AM
Not the most famous song by Level 42 but by far my favorite single they made. Amazing guitars and bass.

I've been playing some Galactic Civilization 3 this week so i might play that this weekend. And then some Knights of Honor 2.

Have a great weekend!

My father loved Level 42. I remember he'd get home from work, pour himself a drink and groove out to Star Child. My mom would shout at him to turn it down and he'd grin at me, wink and turn it up...standing there in his underwear, playing air guitar.

Anyway...a bunch of WDS stuff I bought over the holiday, DCS and I've reinstalled Company of Heroes to try out some newly updated mods.

Enjoy everyone.

Will probably play another scenario or two in Undaunted Stalingrad (boardgame), and work through some of the tutorials for Nebulous Fleet Command.

Haven't played much PC games since I got the Meta Quest 2 VR device for the holidays.  Surprisingly it has consumed all my time and really enjoying it.  Although the device can give you a decent fitness workout while playing, the games themselves (at least the ones I am playing so far) are just entertaining/relaxing and doesn't require me to think a ton.  Beyond the games itself, still awestruck on just being in a VR world as I didn't previously understand how it would all look and work.  Can't imagine what the high-end devices look like since even this lower end option impresses me.  If I stick with it, maybe someday will upgrade but certainly enough for me now.  Based on Jarhead's recent advice, purchased the VTOL flight sim game and it's really cool as you completely interact with a virtual cockpit, not needing any other controllers.  Only downside on it so far, I tend to get motion sickness so trying to figure out ways to minimize that.  Of the games I currently own, luckily this is the only title where that has happened so far as that was a big fear of mine and my main reason for not jumping in sooner.

I was a holdout in joining the VR ranks but if you have the time and money, totally recommend you giving it a try.

^Hoping to have some time to finally set up my VR set, maybe on Sunday. I also like Level 42, solid 80s sound.

Going to (successfully and without nerd rage!!) finish my Croatian campaign in Knights of Honor 2 - thank you to everyone here for helping me along out of the abyss of suckdom and into the light of success. Finally.

Also starting a 1212AD Attila Total War campaign as Bohemia or one of the Bulgarias as a palette cleanser and perhaps the Vlad Dracul campaign in Age of Empires 2.

Getting psyched for some WWI VR flying eventually too.

Wow Level 42 has got some really great sound. I was only exposed to their hit Something About You back in the day. I'm going to have to add them to my playlist! Thanks for that song!

Wife is back in school so that means Mike is gaming solo again  :'(. I'll probably end up playing some Dwarf Fortress, AoW Planetfall and I think I've actually found a potential survival shooter that Splattercat recommends: Stalker GAMMA. I'm going to is if it's better then Fallout 4 for a survival shooter. I'm sort of pumped as the Youtube stuff looks real promising.

Enjoy the Weekend!!!

Fallout 3 - did Operation Anchorage, so I got me some new toys and helped the kid with the ant problem in Greyditch.

Dwarf Fortress on Steam (my gift to me) today is the 12th day of Christmas (Epiphany if you were wondering) and tonight is Twelfth Night.  ^-^

Level 42 is a band I tended to like - "Something About You", "Lessons in Love". Mark King did a project with Adrian Belew and Stewart Copeland and Vittorio Cosma called "Gizmodrome." check it out it's a bit goofy but it's a fun project.

and this weekend is when I get my anniversary coupon!

Since my wife broke her foot this weekend, I'm going to be playing Kids' Chauffeur Simulator and Short Order Chef:  The Beginning most of the weekend.  If I'm able to sneak away for a few minutes, I'm going to have to choose between finishing off my Interstellar Space: Genesis game, starting a new DW2 game, or just continuing some good clean fun with Monster Train.

Unless I make it back to Grim Wanderings.  That is seeming a little less likely at this point, although anything is possible.

Man alive.Talk about a blast from the past with Level 42. Other than being forced to play a four hour session on Saturday of X-ray Tech Simulator w/ Orthopedic Clinic DLC I'll be going back to Escape from Tarkov and Vampire Survivors.

Take it easy grogs.

I had to hold off on Stalingrad and ended up cancelling my preorder of the game. I might reorder it next month for my birthday. I've been enjoying reading your AAR of the first few scenarios. Cheers.

Thanks.  It's not really much of an AAR but I'll post some more after finishing the next scenario, probably some time over the weekend.

Getting another foster dog tomorrow; poor thing is only 10 lbs. owing to starvation (she and few others made it, at least, from the prior owner's neglect), so that's the weekend taken care of as far as I'm concerned.

-fucking people.

I did have a go at the Warplanes: WWI Fighters and it is truly terrible.  FC may not have much of a game, but it is an actual flightsim.  Just flying around in VR is an experience in itself, but I think you can get a lot of value out of it just trying out the various aircraft in quick missions.  Pro tip:

Join the multiplayer server Flugpark, allow it to download the map and then leave the server.  You will now have the mission in progress downloaded.  You can now set up your own server with that map and play on your own against the bots set up by the mission designer.  This is much easier than configuring a SP mission and also the repsawn when/if you die is much quicker than in SP

3 at the moment.

Any and all prior & existing dogs we've had have been rescues and, more to the point, we adopted two dogs rescued from this person in question - won't go into details as to breed or location as OPSEC and all as there was a specific request not to broadcast/highlight  saving dogs from this particular place in lieu of possibly saving more dogs in the future - but suffice to say the two we adopted were puppy mill breeder materials and were damaged dogs we were proud to make "dogs," again, if that makes sense.  One of the two is still alive and happily sleeping on her bed by the fireplace.

Generally speaking, we foster (and adopt) older dogs as they are the ones who typically come into the network we're involved with.  Try to give them something "normal," in the twilight years, in a way.

Salute my man.  I've only had two dogs, and each - despite their stable upbringing - had/have issues meaning that having them in our lives has impacted what we can do.  So I am in awe of people who give up their own lifestyle to take on animals which have actually been damaged and try to give them a better life.

Thank you Father, but I have sinned. Warplanes has solid reviews on The Steam!! And it was 12 dollars. Oh well I'll have to judge for myself. Thanks for the FC tips as well.

Carl you are doing yeomans work. My dog now is 125 pounds and is a total lunatic. He's an 8 year old Swiss Mountain Dog.

He replaced our Rottweiler who was also around 125 pounds and died way too young (9) from a tumor.

I love dogs, especially large breeds. I'd open up a kennel if I could.

With you, man, but not that big.  Too much shit in the house and once those tails get going, then stuff'd be everywhere.  I'd love a cat too, but too much fiddly stuff + asshole cat mood = broken crap and upset Mrs. = shit I don't want to deal with this late in my life.

Lady I've worked with previously has a dream of doing a "doggy daycare," as her dream gig and I cannot say that's not a bad idea.

The Rottie had a docked tail, our dog now has a massive tail but I don't think he has ever destroyed anything with it. Probably the only thing he hasn't destroyed something else with.

I would also like a cat, as would my daughters, but the dog and the wife would not allow it.

I raised Pugs for better than 20 years and never ran across any arseholes, Thank God. I probably would've been in state prison for better than 20 years instead if I had. Meanwhile I will be endeavoring to learn the many ins and outs of Solasta: Crown of the Magister. Here, Sir Slash, and friends, pose before heading out to do Hero Stuff. Have a great weekend Grogs.

Love dawgs.

This weekend:

War of Rights - 270 in the server I was in and two more of my friends have it.
WARNO - just had a few bashes at it with two friends. One still not too keen on it, the other loving it.
AOEIV - Have played too much of this and have all the masteries but friends still plugging away at them... soo I comply.
DCS - I have the Hind because a friend wants me to pilot it so he can sit in the front. I find choppas to be a special challenge. I am not used to aniticpating how they work yet and the Black Shark with it's autopilots just confused me :P
Repeat after me people:

Good work, Carl!  All of our dogs have ever been rescues.  Latest dude we got is a 1-year old total spaz of a Pyrenees-mix, a real sweetheart that we've had for about 6 or 7 weeks now.  Big athletic dude who likes to jump fences, so we've got an adventure handling that right now, but we are keeping him for sure.

His previous owner was a 19 year old kid who committed suicide with his dog in the trailer.  It took about 8 or 10 hours before anybody found the pup or the poor guy.  My wife heard that story and I pretty much knew we were getting the pup.

Foster dog arrived and she's a pip.  Small enough (owing to being starved and bred in that direction we think) to be carried in a bag but spry enough to jump at least 3'-4' to the bed from the floor.  Underweight by far - and we can fix that - she's a cuddler and already claiming a corner of the couch.  I can see us failing this fostering pretty soon and that's okay as she's bright and the Mrs. is smitten.

-need to work out some other things, but overall so far, so good.

We really don't deserve dogs. They're far too pure for this rotten world.
