I've dropped a ton of hours into this.

Battles have become larger and more challenging with a little bit larger and more complex maps. That being said, you're still limited to 4 or sometimes 5 squad members. This in and of itself tends to artificially raise the challenge. Especially when some objectives are time based, i.e. you only have 5 turns to reach and secure a target.

The main story is decent and will keep me playing...but...I will say the battles are getting a little repetitive. There is not a tremendous amount of diversity in enemy types and since you can only bring 4 squad members into the action with you, I tend to play the same 4-6 characters who use the same weapons and have the same abilities and perks that suit my play style.

Overall, I'd give the game so far a rating of 6-7 out of 10. While still a no brainer for any SW fanatic, its just good, but not great.

No gaming buddy around this weekend? No problem at all. Here's a quick look at the solo mode for Afrika Korps '41. The bot is an absolute beast and works for every single scenario or full campaign. Let me know what you think!  :azn:

Another game that came out in a sorry buggy state but glad the Devs didn't give up on it so we can enjoy it 2 years later.

This week's Game of the Week is Squad Battles: Red Victory, available at 25% off from August 31 through September 6.
From the aftermath of Stalingrad to the ruins of Berlin, follow the Red Army's advance west through Kursk, Ukraine, Poland, and into Germany.
At squad level, the Eastern Front becomes a struggle for crossings, strongpoints, streets, and tactical momentum. Infantry, armor, artillery, and engineers all have their part to play as the war in the East moves toward its final battles.

It was a great campaign, we finally finished it. The last battle was a doozy and went right to the wire. We pushed our way through the jungle and coast as hard as we could. Our light tanks suffered terribly due to hidden Japanese engineers and very potent infantry with leaders. Even though the Japanese massed, the assaults failed and our last assault was victorious to scrape a major victory, concluding the linked campaign. After that, we played a defence as the Dutch against a Japanese assault. That was the first time playing the Dutch in a short scenario, learned a lot and would be happy to play them again!

Quote from: WolverinDev on August 29, 2026, 04:48:17 AMHey guys,

Thanks for noticing the game.

The demo should be out soon (two weeks max). The game uses a pure turn-based IGOUGO system. The main reason for that is that it started as a simple experiment and gradually evolved into a much bigger project.

I love WEGO systems, but implementing one would require more sophisticated AI logic.
Thank you for the reply Wolverindev. Much appreciated.
I guess it might even be easier when making WEGO to work backwards from realtime, like combat mission seems to have done.
The effects in your game look really cool. It's just that turn based has always made me think of individuals in duels rather than units working together, say to suppress an entire line for no reply making for a perfect attack with no casualties without needing to rely on initiative, you roll out of the woodline firing all guns "across a front not at individual enemy units" and surprising the enemy, they instantly break and hide while your troops pour across the field. Most IGOUGO games involve either a whole side moving before the enemy or one unit at a time moving. Both are very flawed imho unless we are assuming attack or defend everywhere almost agreed to by each side. Meeting engagements in turn based games have to be very rare. As they are I suppose in real life.
Love that you are a fan of WEGO and kudos for making this game.
You should also know that I am an outlier here and that most people like turn based over real time and don't really require WEGO.

I will wishlist your game just to give you a bit of steam algorithm support.
