I've never watched Big Bang Theory either.  Although, my son says it would be exactly my kind of show.

I was pretty much in the same boat as you, MD.  Everyone and their mother-in-law had been -- well, "nagging" is probably too strong a word, but only just barely -- me about how much I would like The Big Bang Theory.  The fact that these same people -- many of whom are *not* geeks (at least in the classic sense) -- thoroughly enjoyed the show did make wonder what I was missing.  (Even my 89-year-old grandmother loves the show and was recommending to me!) 

Still, I resisted watching it for a long while, if only because I was sick of everyone talking to me about it.  As it happens, I did finally start watching TBBT during the...third, I think?...season, and that was only after I happened to walk past the TV one evening while my roommate was watching an episode. 


After that, I'll admit I quickly got hooked, and I finally understood why so many folks had recommended the show to me.  That being said, I won't nag you to watch it, as I went through that myself!  I do strongly suspect you'd enjoy it too, but you have to want to find that out for yourself.  ;)

Believe me, I know only too well where you're coming from.  That's pretty much my life as well, minus the girlfriend (although at least I spend a fair amount of time with my buds -- aside from you guys here -- when I can).  In fact, it's probably even more difficult for me to watch TV, as I'm usually only just getting out of bed in the evenings.  Gah!

The rumors started almost as soon as it had been announced that Disney had bought Lucasfilm and would release Star Wars Episode VII in 2015. Even before we knew anything about the new movie, the consensus from Star Wars fandom at large seemed to be that Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher obviously needed to star in it.

In the months that followed, each member of the trinity teased some level of involvement in the project; Hamill mentioned to Entertainment Tonight that the actors hadn't signed contracts but were "in the stage where they want us to go in and meet with Michael Arndt, who is the writer, and Kathleen Kennedy, who is going to run Lucasfilm." Earlier this week, Fisher told Palm Beach Illustrated point blank that she would return for the latest installment, an admission quickly followed by a statement from her publicist that of course she was joking. (Ford, meanwhile, has been more circumspect, using anonymous third parties to signal his openness to the idea.)

Now, however, George Lucas has let it slip that he signed all three actors for the next movie, if not more beyond that. In a Bloomberg Businessweek story about Disney's buyout of Lucasfilm, the Star Wars creator reveals that Lucasfilm "had already signed Mark and Carrie and Harrison — or we were pretty much in final stages of negotiation [when the Disney deal came about]. So I called them to say, 'Look, this is what's going on.'"

Lucas seemed to immediately realize what he had said and attempted to backtrack from the admission, saying "Maybe I'm not supposed to say that. I think they want to announce that with some big whoop-de-do, but we were negotiating with them," and adding, "I won't say whether the negotiations were successful or not." Don't worry, George. I think that saying that you "had already signed" the actors pretty much says it all.

Still, Disney — and director J.J. Abrams — are the ones at the helm of Star Wars now, and they have yet to confirm the casting. So when will we hear the original word on the return of the classic Star Wars trio? And should we expect more familiar faces from the original trilogy when Episode VII debuts in 2015?

That's all well and good but I want to know if they have signed TK-421 yet. I'm sure I'm not alone.

I don't get the big deal with having those three back. I'd rather they go in a new direction entirely. Maybe a cameo from one of them, but all bring all three back?

The best thing they could do is to just have the droids in the new ones. They were the common element between all the films. And they need a Wookie in the new one. Can't go wrong with a Wookie.

Looks like they're probably going to pick John Williams to do the music.

At least that will be good.

During a press conference in Berlin for "Star Trek: Into Darkness," director Abrams made it sound like Williams might be in the fold. "Again, for 'Star Wars,' it's very early days, but I believe that, going forward, John Williams will be doing that film because he was there long before I was," Abrams said, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
