Rome 2 TW Pre-purchase

This topic actually piqued my interest again in the series.

I've bought quite a few of these games and haven't given many of them much time...the original Shogun and Rome:Total War being the exceptions - so some good (for me) has come from this - I've reinstalled Total War:Shogun 2 and will be giving it a blast over the weekend.

Indeed. And like I said it's a matter of perception which is essentially useless to argue since I can't see things through your eyes. I do the same thing, frankly. I won't pay .99 for Plants vs. Zombies even though I know I'll get plenty of entertainment out of it. We're all irrational consumers.

Anyway, I just bought 3 months of EVE Online so that will hold me over until R2TW. Glad I didn't spring for the full year because I know this game will distract me from EVE come the fall.

The AI has obviously been improved in numerous categories, in Shogun 2.  I just wish ETW & NTW had similarly refined AI behavior.  :-[  You can see the progress made between those two, but Shogun 2 was nice leap.

Definitely gonna pre-order this sometime.  Still have 3+ months so not too worried about getting around to it yet.  For once the extra pre-order bonus is something I definitely wanna have, too.

Empire is the game I enjoy the least. There's just too many moving parts and it's very ambitious. I respect CA for attempting things like multiple theaters of conflict but it just didn't come together very well. And I agree Napoleon was a step in the right direction...but Shogun: Fall of the Samurai literally blows it away...the subject matter is just more engaging for me personally.

I still hold out hope for a Victorian era game.  I've played the snot out of Empire and Shogun 2 but I think I'm going to hold off on Rome 2 until the inevitable gold pack with all the DLC goes on sale 6-8 months after initial release.  I'm still leery of buying after the shoddy way CA dealt with the AMD fiasco.

Can't blame you there. Before the Rome 2 announcement I had my fingers crossed that the next game was going to be Victoria: Total War but alas, it wasn't happening. I like the Roman era a lot (especially the decline and fall) so I may be able to avoid the pre-order, but I will get it close to either side of release, before or after...

Well, some of the price-consciousness of this place has gotten to me because I find I'm getting far more frugal as I get older, even though I'm making more money than I ever had as I get older!

But there are a few series where I simply don't mind paying full price.  Anything Total War is a safe bet (although I didn't care for Empire either, which is sort of counter to what I said previously).  Same with Elder Scrolls.  If they ever come out with a Skyrim2 or whatever, I have no problem paying full price.  I know I'm going to get plenty of use.

On the other hand, I don't feel any need to go out and pre-purchase it.  I'll get to it when I get to it.

Now then, at Judge, I can't believe you haven't played M2TW yet.  That is in my top 3 games of all time.  What a fantastic, absolutely awesome game.  You have to try it, now soldier!

I was thinking the same thing, but went ahead and pre-ordered from Get Games Go. 

Turns out you don't even get a pre-order Steam activation key emailed to you until closer to release.  Bleh.  :-\
