Getting Over the Hump

So I have Victoria II - Heart of Darkness and Rise of Flight queued up. Both have steep learning curves and intimidate me. How do you all deal with learning new complex games and not getting frustrated and giving up?

I've had my eyes on ROF for some time now, this will be my "next" air combat flight sim, can't wait to see how the bomber campaigns in both sides go.

I played through a couple of the basic flight tutorials a few months ago and just started to get decent when I switched over to something else. I am determined to learn it this time, all the way through. But learning complex games like this is harder than it used to be.

I agree when I was younger I would eat manuals for breakfast but now i normally fall asleep just past the introduction :(

Yes, it is.

I find that I tend to stick to the familiar more so now than in the past.  I played a lot of WWII/WWI flight sims in the past so, for me, Rise of Flight was fairly intuitive and I was able to ease right into it.

By contrast, I just haven't been able to get over the hump with the DCS titles.  I find myself constantly struggling to remember the procedures to set up a specific system or subsystem and I end up shelving the games in frustration.

Same with Sword of the Stars II.  I want to play it but I'm lost when I fire it up and I just can't muster the energy required to learn how to play it.

+1....and it just got worse when I retired. I was thinking how great it will be having time to learn the tough, complex games, but at 62 years old I am finding that more difficult than I ever expected.
