Btw I think Canadian deck is now very noteworthy option because of the Chimera tank destroyer prototype, Higlanders also seem like good bunch of infantry!

OK, just how twitchy is it?  I see it's on sale at GG today and dueto the popularity here at GH, I'm interested.  My question is, how crazy is the speed?  If it's a Warcraft/Starcraft/World in Conflict clone, I'll give it a miss. If it's a slower paced thoughtful RTS like Graviteam or Harpoon, I'll pull the plug.  So should I buy or not?

It's not very "twitchy", but you can still get behind the curve if you have a lot of units & area to cover.  For instance, it can be tough in a 1v1 because the players/bots get more requisition points, and therefore more units.  In that example, you also have to cover the whole map with them and despite the 1v1 maps being smaller, it's still more workload than 4v4, 10v10, etc.  Fortunately, you can use AI bots as teammates as well, so even your single-player skirmishes can be tailored to the size you want.  More players per team is generally less workload and less map area to cover (although it's good to lend a hand to your buddies if they need assets elsewhere and you don't in your AO).

I don't like 'twitchy' RTSes much either.  I'm pretty sure a few other WALB superfans here don't either.  But this game is a shit-ton of fun, and the unit modelling is pretty Grog-ish for the like.  ;)

I agree with Nefaro.  He's spot on with the 'more players = less workload'.

I've bought and read more books on Cold War machines than ever.  I've bought books on Soviet tanks because I really had very little idea what was the difference since they all look so similar.  I had absolutely no idea the Soviets had so many alternatives to the Shillelagh, nor did I have any idea about their hand held/APC based anti-tank missiles.

Any game that makes me read a history book to play it better...is a good game.  :)

Ive been enjoying setting up 2 FOBs and then parking 16 SPGs between the them and letting the steel rain fall.  8)  the AI doesnt seen to worried about counter battery ops.
Jarhead - Yeah. You're probably right.

Gus - I use sweatpants with flannel shorts to soak up my crotch sweat.

Banzai Cat - There is no "partial credit" in grammar. Like anal sex. It's either in, or it's not.

Mirth - We learned long ago that they key isn't to outrun Star, it's to outrun Gus.

Martok - I don't know if it's possible to have an "anti-boner"...but I now have one.

Gus - Celery is vile and has no reason to exist. Like underwear on Star.

I guess I will give you the other side. I don't play multiplayer. So as a single player experience, it is far more like World in Conflict than graviteam or something. It is a RTS, no doubt. Once units engage in combat, things move quickly. So quickly that I cannot tell who is shooting me and by the time I sort things out, my guys are dead. It is NOT a drag and attack game though, you cannot of just grab any old units and order an attack.

Now I hear A lot of people talk about multiplayer 10 V 10 as being a totally different experience. that maybe true but all I can say is in single player it is a very much a click fest, at least for me;  and is far more like a star craft, world in conflict or command &conquer than anything else.

just my two cents your mileage may vary
I keep trying  because I  do want to like it...just can't do MP though

Turn off the timer and take it slow.  I don't deploy units up front and jump off.  Move your recon slow and set up to absorb the first wave then counter.

Im not used to that from an AI and it doesnt seem to matter what side Im playing on.
I have learned to only use air support early and how to set up a decent air defence trap.

Game speed is definitely on steroids. If game speed were about 1/3 what it currently is, that would approach reality. As it stands things happen so fast that you miss all of the beautiful chaos happening at a zoomed in level. That is a real shame IMO.

Try making your own deck, you will probably start beating the AI then. You also can't micromanage things too closely, just group and go.

i know this may hurt your pride, but is there any value in coming down to easy just to master the controls, force compositions, enemy unit recognition and basically just get a feel for your deck without getting your ass kicked.............

i know i did!
