WinSPWW2 and MBT

These games do not ever seem to get old. The OOBs are so massive and the scenario selection so varied and extensive, that each game feels practically infinitely replayable. I would say if I have one problem when it comes to these game, it's ADD. I just can't stay focused on one scenario. First, I may be in the mood for a German airborne operation. Then, after the landing, I change my mind and decide I want to command the USMC in an amphibious assault in the pacific. However, once my Marines crash ashore, I may get the urge for a massive tank battle on the eastern front....wait, no, I want North Africa...no! I mean I want to experiment with the blitzkrieg against the poles...and then, I get the feeling for something more modern, so I switch to MBT and run a helo assault in Vietnam. Or should I fight African rebels in Rhodesia? It's just never ending,

So finally, after all these years, I took the plunge and picked up the cd version if each game from shrapnel. I figure, I've had so many great years of playing the free version that spending money on the overpriced aging titles was still worth it. So now I get to play in high res, and damn it's still a good time.

I agree. The games are still fun to play so many years later and Shrapnel Games keeps on releasing great updates for both like they just did earlier this week.

Still good. Still alive.  They recently got an update.

can you please post a screenshot in 1920 x 1080 of both games
i would like to see the resolution of map and units, so is the graphic just blown up , or is there really crisp higher resolution ? (not just either more map displayed, or blowup of 800 x 600, and does it support 'widescreen' now or with blackboxes left and right   

... i am on the edge to follow in your footseps  ;)

No the graphics are not just blown up they run at a much crisper resolution. Personally that alone makes the cost worthwhile and I can't play the game any other way.

Have to agree the amount of content in the two titles is just staggering.

I loved Steel Panthers WWII and it was a free download when I picked it up. Some great user made campaigns too. My favorite was a Japanese campaign in China in 1937 with the Chinese having a grab bag of equipment from all over. The only thing I didn't like was the long AI turn times in large battles.

So The Shrapnel version is better than the Matrix version? Shrapnel has higher resolution and Matrix is still stuck in 1997? The differences between the two have always been confusing and part of the reason I've never bought either.

IIRC the two versions are actually based on different base games. One is based on the original Steel Panthers and the other derived from the Steel Panthers III: Brigade Command game, which was originally coded for larger units (platoons?).

I thought one was Steel Panthers II engine and the other was III?

Still high priced, but lower than the Matrix one and the Resolution is definitely tempting... lol.. I have not caved in yet, but if JH start posting High Res shots, who knows what will happen!..

MBT is SPwin Main Battle Tank. It picks up where WW2 left off.  Its OOB and scenario base covers conflict from 1946 through 2020.

What I would pay money for is WinSPMBT with the graphics of Wargame Airland Battle (that is how I envisioned playing it when I bought it) or World in Conflict.

Or Norm Kroger's Operational Art of War with the same graphics.

If I zoom out, OATW unit graphics, if I zoom in the graphic engines of one of the 2 RTS games mentioned.
