I do find it amazing how the West continues to indulge him however. This guy makes Brezhnev seem like a liberal reformist.

Truth does not need to be protected by laws like that. The Nazi record in WW2 is pretty well known. Soviet record as an aggressor in WW2 is not, and that is what Putin is trying to hide. Soviets were never the good guys.

Anything related to the new wave of Russian revisionism immediately reminds me of the beginning of 2013 Russian "Stalingrad" movie (that I keep going on about).  It started showing an Antonov in flight, carrying Russian rescue workers to a disaster in modern day Japan.  Yes, a movie about a WWII battle starts off with the benevolent Russians sending aid to help the Japanese.  Of course, the Russian rescue crew is then depicted saving a group of German high school girls trapped in the rubble of a Japanese building.

True. Everyone seems to forget that from 1939-40 Stalin invaded the Poles, Finns, Estonians, Latvians and Lithuanians. All of which were independent sovereign states, which had not acted aggressively to the Soviet Union.

The state policy of mass murder was used throughout this period, with 150,000 Polish POW's to have been killed, but for the anecdotal evidence that Marshal Kulik - himself murdered by Stalin in 1950 - intervened so that "only" 26,000 officers would be murdered at Katyn, and elsewhere. In 1944-45 to the shame of the UK, which had guaranteed the independence of Poland, and the USA, the USSR was allowed to create a Russian Empire out of the countries that would subsequently be tied to the Warsaw Pact.

All these countries suffered oppression after 1945, and between 1944-45 Soviet forces were infamous for rape, and murder. In fact in Poland, partisans were still fighting the Soviets until around 1949!!

I don't say any of this as an apology for the foul behaviour of the Nazis, but to support what Pawelj is saying about the Soviets. Of course being on the winning team, the excessive atrocities committed by the Soviet forces were never brought to account at Nuremburg, which is a pity.
