I have the base game. Should I splurge for the DLC or not?

Yes you should.  If for no other reason than so you can fully use many of the mods out there that require the DLCs.

You're over-thinking things.  Go with a Nord warrior-type build and use the default head.  Just change his hair or something.  You're going to be wearing a helmet almost immediately, so, you know, your face and appearance are almost immediately hidden once you start playing.

Probably true...but don't you have to choose ratings and such?  That is where I really fall down when trying to build the correct kind of character....I at some point purchased the HUGE strategy guide where it gave tips on building, but didn't get around to reading it yet...so all this is probably my lack of focus in really trying:)

Ok, ended up with a few things from the sale....although nothing extreme...

1)  Baldur Gate 1 - Enhanced
2)  Baldur Gate 2 - Enhanced
3)  Skyrim Legend (just for the DLC)
4)  Rome 2 - Few DLC

From GOG I did buy Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 for my daughter, not counting that against me:)  She loves Minecraft so thought I would give her something else to play for awhile:)

Funny thing...I bought it right after the game came out in a used book store for something like $5.....not sure why never read it...guess just as bad as me buying games and playing a little:)

But I am now sitting on my couch determined to read it:)

It's chock full of info. I couldn't just sit on the couch to read it...when I needed it, I reached for it. Too big to casually read for me. That said, it might get you 'in the mood.'

I managed to pick up the Dragonfall DLC for Shadowrun Returns and also upgrade to Deluxe all for about $7.95

I ended up with Baldur's Gate II, although I haven't finished BG I this time around yet, Planetary Annihilation, some DLC for CKII, FTL Advanced, Endless Space Emperors Edition which was only $5 with coupon from buying Endless Legends.  Probably about $45 total which doesn't seem bad for the amount of time I should get out of these.  I almost picked up Red Dragon and Rome II, but I still haven't put much time in the previous versions of these series, so I managed to stop myself.  :)

I have to LOL about this a bit.

Here we all are, nickle and dimeing over whether we should spend $5 for some DLC or some game with 100 hours of play time to finish.

Meantime, I just took the whole family for mandatory fun at the Hawaii State Fair.  I say mandatory because if I didn't take everyone then I was going to be in the dog house and the bad guy.  I'll say that was about a $200 trip altogether...I spent more on funnel cake than I did on BG2 Enhanced Edition.

It just sort of puts things in perspective...when you think of it like that.  Heck, I dropped $30 in the little carnival game stuffed animal game things alone probably.  Almost broke my heart.

So yeah, that $40 or so I dropped on about 1000 hours worth of gaming during the Steam summer sale...no problem man.   ::)

I picked up Age of Wonders 3 today on Steam but didn't realize if you want to be able to play multiplayer you must link your Steam account with a Triumph Studios account.  That kind of got my goat.  Lesson learned.  From now on I'll add to my research what exact kind of DRM comes with a game before jumping in on a sale.

Divinity: Original Sin (and I'm pissed about it because I can't remap the controls so unless it's fixed, I won't ever play it.)
Shadowrun: Returns
Dead Island: Riptide
Splinter Cell: Blacklist
Blackguards: Untold Legends DLC
State of Decay: Lifeline DLC
Sleeping Dogs: Nightmare at Northpoint DLC  (mainly because a buddy did some voice-over work for it.)
